What do you do if your oil pan gasket is leaking on a 1993 Geo prism?
First try snugging up the oil pan bolts but if that doesn't work you'll have to change the oil pan gasket.
My experience tells me it is a non interference engine and it is unlikely to have damage.
How do you remove the driver's side tail light assembly to access the bulbs on 1993 Geo Prizm?
Open your trunk. Remove the black pins in the felt liner and then you'll see the tail light assembly. You can access the bulbs without removing the assembly. Just get the felt liner out of the way.
How do you remove the front speakers on a 1990-92 Geo Prizm LSI?
You you need to remove several small bolts on the lower part of the dashboard on both sides (most are on the bottom by your feet) as well as one inside the glove box to remove the whole dashboard. Take care of the dash vents, the one by left side of the steerling wheel has an insert inside to direct the airflow and there is one located underneath the steerling wheel that is pointed toward your feet. The speakers are located inside sealed boxes that will need to be un-bolted from the car frame to replace the speakers. You shouldn't need to cut any part of the existing grills bult-in to the dashboard to fit most newer model speakers. My speakers still had the factory speaker harnesses attached, so connecting the wires was fast and easy. MAKE sure to color code the wires from the wiring harness by the deck BEFORE you wire up the speakers, the color coding in my car was completely different than the manual or what the wiring kit stated. (PS: the speaker size inside a 1990 is 4" for the front and I used 3 way Autobans w/ a crossover and they fit fine). Putting everything back together the same way you removed it to finish everything off.
How do you replace the cv joints on a 1991 prizm?
I had a 1990, and it was a 5 speed maual. It was sort of simple. first remove tire, then cotter pin in front of large 30mm or so nut. Then remove this nut from end of shaft. Use a large metal bar in between 2 lug nut bolts that is long enough to reach the ground. "lock" the bar in between lug bolts and on the ground then attach ratchet to the bolt and loosen. The bar will stop the shaft from spinning and allow for removal. You then must remove the 3 large bolts from lower control arm to free up strut and make room for the old shaft to pop out. Control arm may need a little banging to loosen up, they also make a tool called a pickle fork to separate it. When that is all freed up use a prybar in between transmission and shaft, there is just enough room to slide the bar in. Give it a good solid "pop" and pry motion to push it outward from transmission. you should hear it pop out. When puttimg new one back in, be sure to line up the little "splines" on the new shaft! DO NOT mash up those little gear threads. When it is lined up nicely, try to give a steady even push back in. You should hear a pop when it is locked in. Then go through the steps backward and throw her back together. Good luck!!!!
Where is the pivot bolt on a 1992 Geo Prizm?
A pivot bolt holds a component in place but allows it to rotate about an axis. There is also a locking bolt which keeps the component from rotating. You need to loosen the locking bolt to allow movement. In order to replace the part you remove both the pivot and locking bolts. Common places for a pivot bolt are the alternator and the power steering pump.
What size speakers are in a '93 Geo Prizm?
The front speakers are 4.75" (yes, a non-standard size) and the rears are 7.0" (you guessed it, another non-standard size). 4.5" aftermarket speakers will fit the front with some additional foam baffling round them to make them air-tight and 5.25" and 6.5" speakers will fit the rear with a Scosche adapter bracket. I have 6.5 inch Pioneer speakers in back. I just screwed the new speakers in the stock mounts and it worked fine.

In a 1991 Geo Prizm what is the difference between a VIN code 5 engine and a VIN code 6 engine?
The engine VIN code 5 or VIN code 6 is the 8th character of the VIN stamped on the engine or on plate at bottom of drivers-side windshield. Both were OE with platinum-electrode plugs. The ignition and distributor are different between the two engines because the cylinder heads are different. There is the belief that the DOHC distributor can only be ordered from a dealer since the cables are integral to the cap, however this is not true. A replacement model with integral wires is available in the aftermarket.
Applicable to build dates Nov 1989 to end of 1992 production:
Vin 5 indicates the (legendary) Toyota 4A-GE DOHC, 16-valve, MPFI engine. Cylinder head designed by Yamaha. Engine oil cooler mounted behind bumper, in front of A/C condenser. Under hood emissions label or RPO LWO printed on the option sticker identifies this also. Service Manual Supplement specific to the GSi is ST373-yySUPP, where "yy" is the numeric model year.
Vin 6 indicates the Toyota 4A-FE found in Prizm Base and LSi models.
How do you remove the rear speaker covers on a 2001 Chevy Prizm?
I just changed the speakers in my 01 about a month ago. The speaker covers are mounted "TO" the rear deck. You have to remove the rear deck to change the speakers out. I left the factory covers on, because I wasn't sure I could mount the aftermarket ones back and look good. I believe they were held on with a washer and pop rivot type of setup. Hope this helps
What can be done to fix a flashing a seatbelt light on a 1998 Chevy Prizm?
I had this problem some time ago. If I remember correctly, I removed the plastic panel beside the driver's seat to access the mechanism that controls the light. Again, if I remember this correctly, I simply cleaned the "contacts" in this part. I did not purchase any parts. .
Refill the clutch master cylinder reservoir with brake fluid and bleed the air out of the system by having a capable assistant pump the clutch pedal a few times then hold the pedal to the floor. With the pedal on the floor, crack open the bleeder screw open to allow the air/fluid to spew out and retighten the screw. Repeat the process of pumping the pedal and holding it on the floor and opening the bleeder screw. When this operation yields only brake fluid (no air) you have bled the air from the system.
Note that the first few times you do this you probably will get more air than fluid. Pedal pressure will increase as the air is dispelled. Keep an eye on the fluid level in the reservoir. As the air is displaced with fluid the level in the reservoir drops. If the level drops below the inlet port you have to start the bleeding process from the beginning.
These master and slave cylinders fail from time to time and are available from your local parts store.
Good luck.
