How does institutional sexism operate?

Institutional sexism is perpetuated through a system of oppression that is composed of institutional discrimination, cultural bias, and personal prejudice. Many of the rationalizations for sexism stem from the biases we all have about sex roles that result from the historical inequities women have faced throughout time. Because women played the major role in families for child rearing, housekeeping and food preparation, present day ideas about the role women should play are still influenced by the past. As more women have entered the workplace (allowing a burgeoning middle class to evolve int he USA), fewer families have stay at home mothers and women represent 50% of the college student population at this time. However, there are still notions that women should limit their career ambition and make marriage and motherhood a priority. Another major influence on sexism is our culture of sexual abuse and predatory behavior that goes unchecked in many families and communities. Add to this the make up, fashion, diet, plastic surgery and pornography industries and you have half the population more worried about looking fat that whether we receive an equitable wage or angry about the fact that we have no decent affordable childcare.

What do auguste compte and emile durkhiem have in common?

Not much. Compte was more of a philopsopher than was Durkhiem. Durkhiem was much more practical in his work.

Compte didn't have any specific ideas he brought to the subject of sociology. He only established it, as he believed society could be measured through statistics, experiments and evaluation of the society through quantitative methods.

The only similarity to my knowledge is that both Durkhiem and Compte could be a "social science" and that we could make predictions and hypotheses like "X+Y= Outcome" about society. Others, such as Weber and the interactionalists disagree with this. But Weber came a long time after Compte and Durkhiem.

What is the Sociological Objectivity Perspective?

The sociological perspective is a particular way of approaching a phenomenon common in sociology. It involves maintaining objectivity, not by divesting oneself of values, but by critically evaluating and testing ideas, and accepting what may be surprising or even displeasing based on the evidence. The sociological perspective often assumes that "official" explanations are incomplete or self-serving. It involves a conscious effort to go beyond the obvious and question what is accepted as true or common sense. This is important because common-sense assumptions are usually based on very limited observation. Moreover, the premises on which common-sense assumptions are based are seldom examined. While sociological research might confirm common-sense observation, its broader observation base and theoretical rational provide a stronger basis for conclusions. The sociological perspective helps us to see general social patterns in the behaviour of particular individuals and offers insights about the social world that extend far beyond explanations that rely on individual quirks and personalities. Essential to the sociological perspective is the sociological imagination. This term, attributed to C. Wright Mills, means "...the vivid awareness of the relationship between experience and the wider society." It means going beyond the individual and understanding how structural forces shape individuals and their action. The sociological perspective, as a broad way of approaching phenomena, is different from a sociological paradigm, which is a specific set of assumptions that frame a sociologist's theories and findings.

Has modernisation lead to the demolition of cultural values?

Yes, all generations of human societies go through changes in cultural values. Cultural values evolve as societies change. Modernization is only one of many causes. Even the most primitive early societies were changed by things as simple as droughts, intermarriage, or new tribes encroaching. The earliest explorers and traders brought about great changes where ever they interacted with different people. Wars have always created big changes in cultural values. Every new interaction with people outside of our own culture brings about new ways to see things and we individually adjust our cultural values. Modernization has a more profound impact on the social values of people who are suddenly thrust into modernization than those who have lived where the modernization has evolved.

Is emo good?

emo simply means emotive so if it good to you than go with you think

There are many different kinds of emo that people need to realize. It's very hard to see the differences unless you know the person specifically, but hopefully this will help.

First, there is the emo that i consider to be real emos. They are living what emo is supposed to be, in my opinion. They see the world differently that people who may be the preps or the smarties or whatever you are. They tend to be quiet, but have sooo much going on inside. Not necessarily depressed, though they can be at times, but so is everyone! If i had to label myself as a few things, this would be one of them. I have never and never will put physical harm on myself, so stop saying that all us emos do! We see the world as something realistic. We understand love, life, and what we're here for. We're quiet, like i said, and this can come off as depression or a stuck-up attitude. No, we are confident in ourselves, why else would we dress the way we do? It's a way to express ourselves and who we are. If we were weak and had no self-esteem, how could we come to school looking likes something that kids prosecute? We listen to emo, pop, electronic, music, yes, but whats wrong with that? We dress darker, that's just our personality. It doesn't automatically make us an satan-worshipper or something. For example, I AM A HARDCORE CHRISTIAN. But emo is a sense of mind. It is just how people look to express themselves and see the world. So don't hate. Also, we're not all bisexual, gosh.

Second: Yeah, some people who cut themselves, are suicidal, and suffer depression call themselves emo. But really, they are not seeing the world from a sensible manner. I'm not discrimating, but these people are not the same as emo. Just remember that not all emo people are physically damaging to themselves.

Third, emo is a style of music. 30 Seconds to Mars, Owl City, All Time Low, MEtro Station, My Chemical Romance, All-American Rejects, Paramore... They all are considered 'emo' bands. You like emo music? Good for you, you have a genre that you enjoy. Why is this such a bad thing?

So all you emo-haters: Maybe you should get to know the person first.

So- Is Emo bad?

It can be.

Is it always, HECK NO!
