Isuzu Trooper

The Isuzu Trooper was a midsize SUV manufactured from 1981 to 2005. The Trooper had three generations: 1981-1991, 1992-1997 and 1998-2005. The first generation was basic and underpowered on- and off-road vehicle, while the succeeding generations were more refined and were available in two or four-wheel drive.

Where is the drain plug for the transmission fluid on the 1991 Isuzu trooper?

don't the troopers have a sealed transmission. Like the man said if it ain't broke don't fix it, if you are over on any sort of maintence in the transmission just let sleeping dogs lie, flushing it at this point may just make it worse, of course this suggestion is negated if you are already having problems. But an Isuzu dealership will probably be your only bet

Where is the fuel pump in a 1989 6-cylinder Isuzu Troop?

I recently had to replace the fuel pump on my '89 Trooper. Sadly, it resides inside the gas tank and is very expensive to replace ($800-$900 with labor). Even if you find the part used (which isn't recommended with fuel pumps) you're still going to find that next to replacing the trans, it's the most expensive repair for an old Trooper.

By the way, if you're having fuel pump issues, be aware that many times it is because of worn or corroded wiring to the fuel pump -- a well-known problem on this generation of Troopers. The wiring often can be repaired WITHOUT having to replace the fuel pump, so it can be worth a try.

Also, it is possible to replace the pump by yourself, but it takes a LONG time and is fairly difficult.

Why is the starter located on the 1998 Isuzu Trooper Is there a picture diagram?

The starter is located on the drivers side of the engine compartment, just inside the rear of the inner fender well. If you are looking to replace the starter it is not a fun job. I read that you have to drop the lead pipe. I took off the heat shield on the wiring harness by the lead pipe and the heat shield on the lead pipe. Then I took off the cross member. Finally I put my jack under the engine and rised it as far as I could. This allowed me to flip the starter and pull it out in reverse. I still found I had to wiggle it. I also shaved a little of my tranny housing of with a dremmel. This was a sucky job, but it worked.

How do you lower the fuel tank on Isuzu trooper?

To lower the tank you could let the air out of the tires. To remove the tank you would need to remove the crash armor to get to the mounting bolts of the tank to chassis. Jeeps have straps and no armor. Then if you had fuel in there it could be drained by the PLUG at the bottom of the tank, all fuel drains out. With troopers a five gallon bucket will slide under nicely (providing you did not let air out of the tires) ;) First you must determine how much fuel is in the tank, too much and it will make the tank very unbalanced when trying to remove in other words the less fuel the better (you may need to drain fuel). You take a floor jack and place a piece of wood between the floor jack and the tank so that you don't puncture the tank, you then remove the screws on the lip of the tank, loosen and remove the filler neck from the tank, then disconnect the electrical connections and hoses that go to the tank. On the top of the tank where the hoses were connected you will see about 8 screws remove the screws and pull out the fuel pump, you then must remove the fuel pump from the sending unit assembly do not remove until you have the new pump if you have a camera take a picture so you can put it back as you found it. I have done this on a 1990 trooper on 3 occasions, what I have told you is for that year trooper but there should not be much difference from any other trooper. Good luck

Where is the dipstick on 1994 Isuzu Trooper?

What is the cylinder compression on a 1994 Isuzu trooper?

I'm not sure of the exact values; they should be in your Haynes repair manual. However, if you compression test all of the cylinders and find one that is lower you have a compression problem with that cylinder. It is also possible to have 2 that are lower, this would most likely indicate a warp in the head between those two cylinders. Other causes for compression loss are damaged or gunked up valves that do not close all the way or a crack in the head.

How do you reset the oil change light on an Isuzu Trooper?

Unless someone else knows any tricks, I think it would require a diagnostic scan tool, dealerships and garages have them. As well as plenty of auto parts stores like Pep Boys, Auto Zone, O' Riley, Napa, BAP, etc.

The Troopers do not have an oil reset light. Engine maintence light will need to be set by a diagnostic scan tool you should be able to rent from your local parts store like O'Reilys or Autozone.

How do you replace the EGR valve on a 1996 Isuzu Trooper?

OK here it goes: The EGR valve is a cylindrical unit above the engine. It would be behind the throttle body. It will have a cable connected to it. Unplug the cable. There two bolts. Simply remove. An that is all there is to it. Simply put the new EGR valve in its place, screw in the bolts and reconnect the cable. Make sure to see a gasket. The gasket can stick to either the EGR valve or the throttle body. It does come off easily but since it is metallic, it looks like it part of the throttle/egr valve. Make sure to install the new EGR valve with a gasket. I have read that using the old one is OK.

How do you line up the timing marks on a 1994 Isuzu Trooper 3.2?

there is an excellent resource for this on an Aussie jackaroo site, here:

http://forum.australia4wd.com/index.php?showtopic=7463

(this forum requires free registration)

another guide is here:

http://www.jasperengines.com/pdf/Isuzu_Timing_Belt.pdf

both have diagrams which clearly illustrate the belt and pulley alignment.

as for the alignment marks:

before you put the belt on, align the crank pulley key/keyway with the oil pump (on driver's side of motor, has alignment mark that looks like a dash - )

in aligning the camshafts, there are nice lines/marks on the gears themselves, but the marks they line up with are small dots on the black, steel timing belt covers between the gears and the heads.

on the belt, the dotted line goes on the crankshaft pulley (there is an alignment mark on the gear that lines up) the two solid lines align with the marks on the camshafts. the words on the belt should be readable to you if you are standing in front of the truck, facing the engine.

Where is the fuel pressure regulator in a Isuzu Rodeo?

It's at the back of the fuel rail (driver's side). It's covered by a black metal cover. difficult to change but not impossible.

remove the one accessable bolt on the cover, (and displace conduit & cables)

pull the black metal cover up & allow it to rotate upward on the aft bolt. This will give you better access when reinstalling the snap ring.

Other than that it's pretty straight forward. (make sure you have a good set of offset snap ring plyers)

Gas mileage for a 2001 Isuzu trooper?

What type of oil do you use for a Isuzu Trooper?

I have owned two Isuzu trooper's.

and 88 and a 98.

Both having higher mileage I have always used 10W-30.

If your truck is burning oil it may help to get a higher viscosity of oil, but 10W-30 will get the job done.
