What could causing the heat gauge to be going up and down?
It could be a lack of enough water in the radiator, or it might be a faulty thermostat. Your radiator might also be going bad. if there is no leak on your driveway, there still could be a problem. mine only leaked when the engine was running and the fan was blowing the coolant onto the block and evaporating it. Check both things out

You most likely have a broken wire in the harness that runs from the body to the drivers door. The wires like to break near the door hinge in that black boot.
Here's how to fix the problem: Remove the black boot by lifting upward and pulling away ROM the door. You will most likely find a thick black wire that has broken. Remove about 3/16" of insulation from both ends. I'm not sure what it's called but you can purchase this at any hardware store: it is a one inch straight tube about 3/16" in diameter and you place the exposed copper wire of the broken wire in it and "crimp it" using a pliers. Repeat with the other end of the broken wire so both ends of the broken wire are now connected. Replace the boot (this is the hardest part) and it's good to go!! Total cost to fix is about $0.50.
