How do you change front brake pads on a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
It's really not that hard. To change the Front brake pads (the rear are similar):
1) After jacking and supporting the Jeep, remove the wheel.
2) Use a C clamp (about 6" to 8") to compress the piston.
3) Remove the 2 Hex Key slide bolts that are under the plactic caps. Clean the bolts and set them in a clean place. These Hex Key bolts are Metric. If I remember correctly, they are 7 or 9mm.
4) Remember, hang the removed caliper on a piece of wire or tie-strap. Never allow the caliper to hang by the brake hose.
5) Remove the pads and get a new set. There are 2 different kinds calipers for this Jeep and they use different pad sets. You can't tell which one it is on OEM callipers until you remove it.
6) Insert new pads being carefull not to get any grease or oil on them. It usually comes off your hands or fingers.
7) Place caliper on rotor.
8) Lubricate the Slide Pins. sometimes the lube comes with the new pads but other times it doesn't. Find out before you bring the new pads home 'cause there is a special lube for the slide pins.
9) Install the slide pins and tighten them to 25-30 foot pounds.
10) Reinstall wheel, lower and you're done.
11) APPLY BRAKE PEDAL 3 TO 4 TIMES UNTIL THE BRAKE PEDAL FEELS FIRM OR WHEN YOU PUT IT IN GEAR YOU WILL RUN INTO WHAT EVER IS IN FRONT OR BACK AS YOU WILL HAVE NO BRAKES
12) Seat the brake pads, the methods vary but the first 3-5 applications while driving will have less than desired braking so allow extra space for stopping
Sometimes when it is parked the security horn and lights start blowing and blinking. It is very cold here and no garage so when it warms up a bit I am going to pull the door panel off and see what is loose, broken or what the problem and will get back here.
I took the door panel off but could not find any kind of problem. Then I discovered the door light button on the door post at the back of the door and I loosened the two torx screws and adjusted the latch on the door post toward the inside to make the door shut tighter and it cured the problem.

If you have replaced or unplugged any antitheft component, the computer in the car has to relearn the identity of the part. To do this simply attempt to start the car (some times it will start then shut down instantly) then just leave the key in the running possision. The theft system light will be flashing on the dash for about 10 minutes, when it stops flashing the computer has finished learning the new code. Try starting again, it should run fine now. Also, check the EGR valve. If the car seems to run fine until the engine is warmed up, and then stalls at idle, it's possible that the EGR valve is sticking open.

How do you replace or change the fuel filter on a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
Where is the filter? The fuel filter is on the passenger side under the door near the front wheel well. It is behind a curved shield and a flat plate covering the fuel filter that is marked "fuel filter replace."
How do you access it? There is an aluminum plate held on with 3 13mm bolts. Remove it. Behind it there is a black plastic shield, held on with 2 10mm nuts. Remove that and you will see the fuel filter, and the bracket that holds it on.
How do you replace the fuel filter? This fuel filter has three lines attached to it. You need a fuel line release tool for one of the lines. You can get this tool for $10-$20 at most good auto parts stores. The line that requires the tool is the line that is by itself, and has an additional safety clip that must be removed to gain access. The other two lines have clips that release without a special tool. These clips are called R-clips. Each one has a little locking tab that you release, which allows you to squeeze the ends of the clip toward each other and slide the clip partially out of the connector housing, which releases the line from the filter nipple. Study the clip carefully before you attempt to remove it so you won't damage it.

What are the Speaker sizes for a 93 Cherokee Laredo?
I have an 89 Jeep Cherokee Laredo, and both my doors, and back panel have 5.25" speakers... I'm not sure if the 93 Cherokee is the same, but I hope I help.
My 92 Cherokee also has 5.25" speakers in both doors and in the rear hatch...however you can fit 6.5" speakers in the door with little or no modifications. Also you can fit 6.5" speakers in the rear hatch with a little cutting to the fiberglass.

How do you reset the fuel pump on a 1987 Mercury Grand Marquis?
As on many cars these days, we often can be "bumped" in the rear while parked or otherwise and this can shut down the fuel system temporarily. Open your trunk lid and on the left side(fender area) there is a box or compartment cover. Just look around for it, its there... Inside there is a reset button... just press it and your vehicle should restart. Anything beyond this may r4equire the assistance of a mechanic..blah, blah...
What would cause a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire to not start?
Before you go out and spend money on a new battery. Check this do you have headlights? Are they very dim? Do you hear a clicking sound when the key is turned? Get a boost from someone to see if it will start. If it does then. Put your battery on over night charge (trickle charge). If you find you are still having problems then look into buying a new battery (Most auto stores will load check ur battery for free) I just dumped my battery for just this problem and bot a Motormaster Eliminator (which according to ctc doesn't fit my carrier - its does just a little tighter fix)
How do you fix the front drivers power window on a 1997 4 door explorer all other windows work fine?
The spring that assists the window to the up position is very strong and do not attempt to remove the old motor with the window in the down position. Your fingers wil thank you. -Inspect the power window switches for broken or loose wires. -Check the power window fuse or circuit breaker. -Remove door panels and check power window motor wires to see if they are loose or damaged. Inspect the glass mechanism for damage which can cause binding. -If it's only one window not working and all the above checks out ok then you may have to replace the window motor.

Why does a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo stop running?
maybe it is the security system
Ive had no less than 7 mechanics trying to fix this problem on my 98 Jeep GC. We have replaced half the car already and it still does it. It is not the timing chain, it is not out of gas, and it is not the security system. Jeep/Chrysler has no idea what is causing this in a large number of 98 Jeep GC. If you own one that shuts down do the world a favor and distroy it. We are trying one last thing before I junk mine. I am sending the dash cluster to a technician to check it out. I'll let you know.
Can you reset factory alarm by not going to the dealer?
If it's 3rd party car alarm maker such as Clifford, then yes, you can. You'll find the answer in the manual. In case you don't have a manual, you should be able to get it from their websites. For clifford, you'd go to clifford.com -> "guides" and pick the one that's matches your alarm best. Even if you don't know the exact model, chances are that the reset codes remain the same.
Why does Jeep Grand Cherokee right blinker blink fast?
My first gues would be that you've used a bulb with the wrong wattage. There are some dual-filament bulbs that can be inserted the wrong way.
<< There is no such thing as a zg. >>
Wrong. A ZG is the foreign version of the North American ZJ. There's a complete e-service manual available for free at a variety of sites, just search for: 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee ZG Interactive Electronic Service Manual.
Same thing as a ZJ. Just made for a foreign market. Parts and service are the same. SAME.. really. Big Download in multipart .pdf's, so get a three inch binder if you're going to print it off and loose-leaf it. Otherwise just save a copy in your documents folder and access/print off what you need whenever. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Having trouble with your computer?
