It stands for watt-hour. In relationship to batteries, it measures how many watts in an hour a battery can sustain. 1.Determine what operating system it uses. Finding out what operating system your laptop uses will let you know what key combo (such as "Ctrl+Alt+Delete") can exit you from usage and trigger a reboot or shutdown.

2.Try and reboot using the operating system. Attempt to use the key combination that will allow you to exit from the operating system and restart the laptop. Be patient, as it may take some time if it has locked up. 3. Hold down the power button. If the operating system's answer to the rebooting will not work, find and hold down the power button of the laptop. This should cause the device to shut itself off. Since I've gotten the game, I've been getting all sorts of errors. Most recently there has been screen freezes. The game literally freezes but I can hear the game still playing in the background(Ex: Myself Running) I can't afford to buy a "gaming" pc . tried the following:
Verified Game Cache
Played on lowest possible graphics settings
Cleaned my pc
Reinstalled DirectX 11
Tried fixing my BIOS settings (Updating vram)
And a few minor tweaks.

Some say: "What processor you use is pretty irrelevant to software development these days."

Actually, it always matter. Yes, it is. Look, you do not state the kind of software you are about. For example, I could say that it depends on how one goes with the development. To write web applications and deploy them locally for development purposes, one needs to spawn application container, in some cases on virtual box supplying OS different than the development environment one. Virtualisation is processor dependent. So is multiprocessing.

Also, you do not mention your energy consumption requirements. Laptops differ from heavy boxes.

At the mo: prefer quad over i5 (it's 2 or 4 cores, loosely coupled). If you can, go i7 (there's a mobile version) - that's preferable.

Also, all the processes need some repetitive I/O, SSD preferable then. If low budget, consider hybrid drives: like Momentus http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKUYVVPWN8I. Would like to get one! :)

your laptop is slow it goes funny and things pop up.

Saying you need to run "high level programes such as VHDL" is sort of misleading. VHDL is simply a programming language for designing logic. You need to run the programs that simulate and/or compile the code that you've written.

To compose the code, any text editor will do. In that sense, the slowest machine that will let you edit text will work just fine.

To simulate or synthesize the code, the more complex your design, the more processing and memory power you'll need. For that, you'll need a mid to high end desktop computer or workstation. A good example is a well configured Hewlett Packard XW class workstation.

Of course, the computer that you choose, will depend on the software that you plan to use for simulation and/or synthesis. For windows workstations, I would recommend using Symphony EDA's VHDL Simili. It's available for free from their website.

Anyway, to make a long answer short, look for a computer with specs similar to the following:

* Hardware platform: PC with Intel Pentium II equivalent or better * Video: 1280x1024 resolution or higher (lower resolutions will work but not recommended) * 10/100 Network Card * Operating System: Windows XP and/or Red Hat Linux * Memory: Minimum of 512 MB of available RAM * Disk Space: Minimum 80GB + additional space for vendor libraries.

He needs to see a value in getting offline and having a real life. Then, he will do it himself. It is a tough place to be because only people can change themselves. Make sure you are doing what is important to you, even if you have to go and do it on your own.

try this Ctrl+Alt+Del if that does not work try this "SYSTEM RESTORE" it really helps

This shouldn't occur. If only one laptop charger is causing the problem, there may be a short in this charger. If you have tried multiple chargers, I suggest looking at the laptop and seeing if it is the cause.

"All of the electronics" on one breaker should trip if there is a short in the laptop or charger. The whole house (main breaker at the top of the electric box, usually) should not trip. If this is occurring, you may have a problem with the particular breaker to the plug you are using as well. If this is occurring, I suggest calling an electrician unless you know what you're doing.

That's the highest resolution it can display on the laptop screen, 1080 can be displayed on an external monitor/HDTV via HDMI cable. 1600x900 resolution on a 14" laptop screen is a very high quality though, far exceeding the amount of pixels per square inch of a large screen 1080p TV screen.
