The cable that controls the speedometer needs to be replaced more than likely. That is what had to be done to a Dodge Stealth's speedometer to work properly. ==New Answer == Actually - there is no speedometer/odometer cable on a 1993 Honda. The system is all-electrical. So it has to be either a bad wiring harness/plug connector, OR a bad speedometer head (unlikely).

How do you change the odometer cable on a 1995 Thunderbird LX?
== == It is plastic gear driven.
There is no cable as in earlier vehicles. Although the output shaft in the transmission still operates the speedometer and odometer, the plastic gear drives a sensor that is plugged into the wiring harness. On the other end, it's included in one of two large connectors that attach to the back of the instrument cluster. No cables!
How do you change a light in the dashboard behind the odometer?
It sepends on the model of vehicle you are working on.
1996 Ford Contour dash lights can be replaced using a Phillips screwdriver to remove the plastic portion of the dash around the instrument cluster. There are 5 screws that need to be removed, two are recessed in the top outer sides of the plastic just in front of the spedo lense. The remaining three are along the bottom located on the far right side, right center and left sides of the plastic dash/housing. Next remove the five screws from the instrument cluster, 2 on top and three on bottom are very visible. Slide the instrument cluster forward and turn it face down to access the lights on the back of it. Be sure not to scratch up the clear lense on the front when you turn it face down. I think the lights are motorcraft 144's but I am not certain. I need to run out to the ford dealer and pick some up, I will follow up later. One more thing that you will notice is that there may be some open light sockets depending on the amount of equipment that is installed on your vehicle. Don't buy extra lights to put in the empty slots or you will end up with idiot lights on all over your dash. I replaced the working seatbelt light with another ambient light bulb that was burnt out.
Short answer to your question is to specify what kind of car you need to change lights in.
Take Care adn GOD Bless.

the problem is mostlikely in the final drive of the transaxle, or there is a broken axle. from the description, "when you put it in park it makes lots of sound" that usually means the transmission is ok but when the power gets to the differential (inside the transaxle case) it doesnt have anything to "push". when this happens, the output spins freely even though the car wont move. so when you put it in park, the parking pawl tries to lock the output but its still spinning, thus the noise. im afraid youre going to need a replacement transaxle, unless of course an axle is broken.

Why was the odometer important?
The odometer is important because it tells you when you are due for an oil change. I think you're supposed to have an oil change every 10,000 miles or so, but im not sure so don't trust me; your mechanic will tell you when you are due. The odometer is also used in determining the value of a used car. For example, a car with 16,000 miles on it is a lot better than a car with, say, 200,000 miles on it. The less miles, the better.
If all three are not working then it is a pretty good bet the speed cable is either broken or has come off. The cable runs from the rear of the front left wheel to the back of the speedometer, it looks like a brake cable from a bike. speed sensor could be bad.
