If you are attempting to replace the alternator how do you release the belt tensioner on a 1988 Oldsmobile 98?

The alternator is sitting on a guide. It is held on it by a bolt. All you have to do is loosen that bolt and the belt pressure sould realese.

Look around for a wheel that is touching the belt but appears to have no other purpose...this is the tensioner. Use a long handled wrench on the nut in the middle of the tensioner.

there should be a diagram under the hood, in front of the radiator, that will show belt routing and show where the tensioner is...

Disableing leveling sensor?

I had to disable the leveling pump on my son's 86 Olds 98 because it would turn on by itself everytime you would get in or out of the car or even if it was just sitting there. The 98 has adjustable air shock to level the car, but our 98's shocks were wore old and worn out. I disconnected the air pump underneath the hood on the driver's side. It looks like a small black air compressor near the headlights with a clear thin plastic tube coming out the back of it. Just disconnect the the wiring harness from the pump and it will stop working.

Can 22 inch rims fit on a 1987 98 Oldsmobile?

How difficult is it to replace an alternator on a 1994 Oldsmobile 98?

Not that difficult - everything is on the top of the engine. Take the serpentine belt off first, disconnect the wires and attach them to the new alternator in order. Then take the bolts out (they are obvious) and change the alternator - put the belt back on - that's usually the hardest part and your done.

How do you open the hood on 1993 Oldsmobile 98 if the inside release cable is broke?

If the cable broke at the pull under the dash, and it is still sticking out of the casing, behind the pull, you should be able to grab the end of the cable with a pair of plyers and give it a yank to pull the cable and open the hood. If it broke somewhere between the pull, inside the car, and the latch, under the hood, best bet would be if you can see under the front of the car and reach up, you can release it that way, by pulling on the cable.

What causes 1984 Oldsmobile ninety-eight to show smoke from top of engine when shutting off?

Its one of two things. First, either the intake manifold is leaking coolant between the intake and the head. The gasket is pinched in the driver side rear. or Its an oil leak from the valve cover at the passenger side rear. You can tell by the smell- it can either smell like oil or antifreeze steam.

How do you replace the transmission filter on a 1993 olds 98 3800 engine?

Put the car up on jack stands. The trans oil pan is behind the cross member. The trans pan is a flat irregular pan held on with about 24 bolts. I usually leave a few in on one side of the pan so that you can drain the oil into a catcher insted of wearing it. Then remove the pan, clean with varsol, there is a magnet inside that will have lots of sludge on it, be sure to get that clean. Then pull out the filter, it has a long pipe the goes up into the trans with a rubber o-ring. Make sure you get that out too, the new filter should have a new rubber and you don't want 2 up there. Replace filter, install new pan gasket, torque the pan bolts so as not to over tighten them (very important not to strip them) Nand very important not to use silicone on pan gasket. Silicone and auto trans don't mix. Then drop the vehicle, pull the dipstick tube, look in the owners manual for the number of litres or quarts and pour in slowly so as not to trap air during pouring and spill all over the engine. Probably gonna take 5 or 6 litres, but only a guess.

Why does the air shock pump run when you get in before starting the car and after you stop the engine?

The car is leveling itself out. You can test this theory by letting that noise stop. Then jumping on the bumper will make it unlevel and you will hear the noise again.

How do you changes the super charger fluid in a 1995 Buick Riviera?

how do you change the super charge fluid in a 1995 buick riviera You don't it is a completely sealed unit so you should not have to.

i just changed my supercharger oil .Yes you can check it and no, it's not a sealed system. There is a small black plug looking thing about the size of a peanut that is embedded into the gray/silver supercharger itself. You have to use a hex key/allan wrench type tool to loosen it. refer to your owners manual for how much oil to add or if it gets low. the problem with removing old oil is that you have to use a baster type thing ( like a small turkey baster type suction) to remove the old oil as there is no drain plug that I know of. Hope this helps!get your supercharger oil from your local buick dealership, i think it takes 2 bottles

What motors can fit into a 1984 Oldsmobile 98 regency brougham?

You can fit up to a 502 Big Block if you really wanted too. The biggest problem being that this is a 1984 is the emissions part of this. I own a 1984 old 98 regency I think its the elite edition with the leather. Anways it has a 5.0L V8 in it and the room is there just working around the computer aspec it the real issue. If you find a matching motor with computer if that's the way your going your set to go as long as you meet emission laws for your state.
