Electronic power steering goes hard?
I'm assuming you are talking about Chevy's Electronic Power Assist. If the steering goes "hard" then the power steering has gone out. This makes it very hard to turn the wheel if you are not moving or at the very least if you *are* moving you will notice a marked increase in the stiffness of the steering wheel. Having the dealership replace the module will help, although it seems the problem often times returns 6 months to a year later.
I've had mine replaced 2 times in less than 2 years.
If a 1996 Monte Carlo makes noise like a power steering and it is not power steering what is it?
i know i have a 96 z34 and that's what i thought it was and what a local auto repair guy thought it was...until he got looking at it....on mine it was the bearing on the AC compressor...hope that helps
AnswerTurning the steering wheel causes more tension on the front of the power steering pump and in turn cause more tension on everything else the belt turns, e.g. a/c compressor, alternator, even a bad bearing in the idler and tensioner pulleys. If you drive with your e-brake on will that mess up your power steering?
No, but it will wear out the rear brakes.
Can you fit power steering to a 1986 ford escort if its not fitted as standard?
Anything is possible. How much money and time do you want to invest.
Why does your power steering rattle but stops when you turn the wheel?
This is due in part to both the intake manifold and the power steering itself. The reason it stops is because the air intake is being diverted away from the power steering belt and is in a sense, "balancing out the intake" -- in order to remedy this problem, you need to replace the power steering itself and put new power steering fluid in it, only then will the rattling stop.
