Power Steering

You're probably getting a little water on the belt. Check to see if there is a dust cover, mud guard or whatever it's called for your vehicle. Someone may have removed it over the years and now when you splash water it causes the belt to slip.

i use regular stp. it protects against wear , oxidation and foaming . also works in subzero temps.

Stop running or stop moving? Anyway, not likely unless it's a big truck with a hydovac break system.

There is a power steering pump under the hood in front of engine, it has a pully that is driven off a belt. Read the cap on top of the plastic reservoir that is attached to pump (to make sure it is power steering) and there should be a dipstick connected to cap. Your owners manual should specify what type of fluid to use and only fill fluid to appropriate level (that is denoted on the dipstick that the cap has)

Counter steering is used while riding bicycles and motorcycles. The front wheel is turned away from the direction you wish to go while leaning in the direction you will go. Then the wheel is quickly turned properly to finish the turn.

Why would you put power steering stop leak in an automatic transmission in the first place? You obviously don't know what you are doing. Take it to a professional!

poor GM engineering! All these impalas do this at some point, most within a year! You can ignore it! The dealership has a lubrication bandaid but it is expensive and does not last long. It treats the symptom, it is not a cure to the root problem that has no real solution!!!

I have zero personal expertise, but I have just gone through this with Fitzgerald Hyundai parts (Rockville, MD) this morning. They not only say similar but identical. They use and sell Dexron III ATF fluid as Type 3 power steering fluid. Two people there confirmed it.

Are you sure that it is infact the power steering pump? I myself have the same car and I thought it was the pump but, when I finaly looked at it...it turned out to be the hose! Anyways if it is the pump its pretty easy. I cant really tell you in detail but its down under the serpintin belt.

loosen the nut on the idler pulley. There is a bolt at 10:00 o'clock from the pulley.

Loosen this bolt until you can put the belt on then tighten the bolt till the belt is tight then tighten the nut on the idler pulley. Recheck the belt tension after a day or so..

Counter steering is used in the case of maintaining a constant turn radius. This is applicable to single tracks like motorcycles.

Find out where the wear is in the steering linkage. Idler arm and tie rod ends most likely.
