Timing and Firing Orders

if u are asking how to do it without a timing light, try as follows.. First pull #1 spark plug out of head. Then: turn engin over till compression comes out of sparkplug hole (indicating compression stroke) next, line up timing mark to proper notch. (should be listed on emission sheet under hood) such as 8 degrees btdc. Now... turn on ignition switch to Run ( not Start ) after that: loosen distributor and then: put #1 spark plug in boot for plug wire and ground the plug to the block. Finally, Turn distributor until plug fires! do final step 5 or 6 times to extablish exact position of fire. Now, tightne cistributor, install plug, snd your ready to go! Happy motoring!

The cylinders are numbered from front to rear:

1-3-5-7 on the driver's side

and

2-4-6-8 on the passenger's side

the firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2.

Number one is the point on the cap furthest forward.

I have just acquired this bike and it runs well at .035". The mixture screw wants to be out almost 5 turns to perform and rev well. I always wanted one of these and now that I'm too old to make it go, i have one/.

If you are changing the timing belt you need to get a shop manual on your car from a parts store. It will show you how and have pictures.

Need to know what engine you have.

Firing order is: 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8

Ignition timing or valve timing?

1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 clockwise on distributor cap.

Driver's side head front to rear are cylinder#s 1-3-5-7

The other head.................................................2-4-6-8

The most common is 13726548.

The firing order should be 1-5-3-6-2-4.

Drivers side head front to rear are cylinders 1-3-5-7

The other head front to rear is 2-4-6-8

The firing order for the 6 cylinder engine Mazda MX-3 is 1 4 2 5 3 6.

15 degrees before top dead center with vacuum advance disconnected @550 rpm in drive, emergency brake on.

the firing order is 1342

1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. The driver's side (left) bank is the the "odd" side starting closest to the water pump at #1 & ending up #7: 1-3-5-7. The Passenger side (right) bank is the "even" side at 2-4-6-8. Pull the coil wire, lift the distributor cap off & leave the rotor on. Pull the number #1 sparkplug out & gently bump the starter until you feel compression in the plug hole. Bring the crank pulley up to the TDC mark while watching the direction of rotation of the rotor. When you reach TDC, note the position of the rotot versus the plug wire location on the cap. It should be under the #1 sparkplug wire lug. If it is, then the next plugwire will be #8 & on thru the firing order. It's easy once you see how it ties together. Good luck & have fun.

The distributor rotor turns COUNTERCLOCKWISE

The marked # 1 position on the distributor cap faces to the REAR and slightly towards the drivers side
