How do you know if its the timing or the starter motor, and what mileage did U guys get on the starter motor, mine is playin up but I'm not actually sure if its that our the timing?

If it's off by a tooth or so (on the timing gear), or a few degrees via distributor rotation, it should still start fine, but how well it runs is another matter. I just recently noticed my timing had been off by like 15 degrees for two years--side effect was slight loss of high end power and lousy gas mileage. I noticed a big difference after I got the timing corrected.

>Regarding the starter motor : I had a lot of issues with my original starter, like not starting at all in the cold, even after multiple rebuilds (at $50 a pop). About three years ago, I finally got a remanufactured one from NAPA for $60, it's been working flawlessly ever since.

How can you tell if a timing chain needs to be replaced on a 2000 Nissan frontier?

you cant. but most timing belts should be changed around 60 to 75000 miles to be on the safe side . major damage can occur without warning if the belt goes. if the car is worth keeping expect to spend 450 to 650 dollars. davew "http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_can_you_tell_if_a_timing_chain_needs_to_be_replaced_on_a_2000_nissan_frontier" These trucks don't have timing belts that wear out at 60K miles. There isn't a recommended interval, but you'd be safe to go ahead at about 90-100k miles. These trucks are also known to have a chatter/knocking noise from chain area when the chain guides get worn, so plan on replacing those too.

As a novice is it fairly easy to change the spark plugs and wires on a 1996 Mazda 626?

how to change spark plugs and wiresi found this while surfing the internet trying to find out why my 1994 Mazda 626 misses while running hope it helps IntroductionA bad spark-plug wire can keep your car from running well or starting at all. You should replace the spark-plug wires every 30,000 miles (50,000 km), although a tune-up won't necessarily include this service. Unless you have asked for them to be replaced, your car's spark-plug wires may be quite old. InstructionsDifficulty: Moderately Easy Steps1 Step One

Purchase a set of spark-plug wires at an auto-parts store. It is also possible to buy a single wire if only one needs replacing.2

Step Two

Click to enlargeLook under the hood to find the spark-plug wires.3

Step Three

Pull off one spark-plug wire at a time by grasping it at the base of the wire. Use a spark-plug wire puller or just your fingers.4

Step Four

Match it up by length with a new plug wire. Each spark-plug wire is a specific length, so make sure to replace the wire with one of exactly the same length.5

Step Five

Attach the new wire to the spark plug on one end and to the distributor cap on the other end. Listen for a small click or pop as you connect the wire.6

Step Six

Repeat steps 3 through 5 for all the other plug wires.7

Step Seven

Replace the coil wire (if your car has one). This is the wire that goes from the middle of the distributor cap to the coil. Use the same method as for replacing the other plug wires.

Why firing of cylinders is not done serially?

The firing of the spark plugs must be balanced. The plugs fire when the cylinder reaches top dead center (TDC) on the upstroke or compression stroke. The cylinders are not numbered serially, so the plugs cannot fire serially. If you look at the inside of an average V8 you can easily see why that would not be possible. Click the link.

This isto minimize unbalanced torque and thus vibration which also reduces wear.
