The firing order for a 1996 Toyota 4- runner 3.4 liter is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. The number one cylinder is located at the front of the engine, on the left as you are facing it.

Just firmly grasp the plug wire where it connects into the distributor and gently twist it side to side while pulling upwards and the plug wire should pop off the distributor..It may take a little effort to remove since the connectors on the plug wire snap down into the distributor and the rubber boot on the plug wire may stick to the plastic on the distributor...be sure to note the firing order of the cylinders before removing any wires from the distributor...this is usually found stamped or printed on the top of the engine or in the engine compartment..

Like any other inline six diesel engine (and most gas ones, as well), it's 1-5-3-6-2-4

You need to loosen the two 10mm bolts that hold the distributor in place. Connect your timing light to the #1 spark plug wire. Timing specification at idle is 10 degrees with the DLC connector jumped. You need a short piece of wire to connect the "DIAG" and "GND" terminals under the box that says "Diagnosis" under the hood. Rotate the distributor as needed to set the timing to 10 degrees.

Take it to a good mechanic. Seriously, you could strong-arm it out, but if you manage to break the ceramic portion, it will have to be drilled out, often requiring an expensive, long stay at the garage. Mechanics will have the proper tools to gently nudge it loose a little at a time. If you really really *really* insist on doing it yourself, WARNING FIRE OR EXPLOSION MAY RESULT! YOU COULD DIE! Let your car cool down completely before applying any oil or break free to it! ...had to say that first then get a can of "Marvels Mystery Oil" or "Break Free" from any good auto parts store like NAPA. Place a automotive rag under the area to cath any run-off and put a couple drops of the oil or break free near the base of the plug. Allow it to soak a good twenty to thirty minutes. Then, using the correct wrench and socket, gently tap the wrench handle with something, say a screwdriver handle, while turning in the correct direction for removal. The Mystery oil /break free products are a type or oil called penetrating and will get into the most amazingly tight places, like between the rusted threads of a bolt, screw or spark plug... Clean up any and ALL spilled oil, especially from any engine parts or areas as they WILL IGNITE when the engine gets hot. WARNING! NEVER, NEVER EVER SPRAY BREAK FREE ONTO A HOT OR RUNNING ENGINE.

All V8 Chevrolet's are 1,8,4,3,6,5,7,2 with 1,3,5,7 on the left bank and 2,4,6,8 on the right with the distributor rotating clockwise.

There is no such firing order. That I have ever none are heard of for those numbers.

So enlighten me......

a) You have EIGHT digits / No.s / Cylinders?

b) you have TWO "8" digits

c) you have a "9" digit............................

So there's EIGHT Cylinders and you are missing digit/No. SIX (6) in your listing ??

The marked # 1 position on the distributor cap faces to the REAR and slightly towards the drivers side

Did the timing belt snap ? if so the engine will have bent valves and require more work than just the belt. This is timing belt job is not one for the inexperienced diy mechanic. Not trying to be a wise guy, but get the manual, the timing mark set up isn't a simple explanation .

The spark plug firing order for the Ford 4.0 L OHV and the Ford 4.0 L SOHC engines is the same ( 1-4-2-5-3-6 )
