What is the tire air pressure for 1967 VW Beetle?

Seriously, it is on the tire itself .....

- - - - -

If you want to die a horrible flaming death in a car crash, use the air pressure on the tires on a rear-engine VW. Rear-engine and mid-engine cars are not like front-engine cars - for safe handling, you need either more air pressure or a wider tire on the back of the car than on the front. Corvairs were especially prone to having tire pressure make the car go out of control; there is more weight in the back of a Corvair than a Bug because the engine is heavier, and the dealers didn't tell people this had to be done. (More than likely, they didn't know.) Rear engine sports cars use wider tires on the back - Porsche 911s and Ferraris use 20mm-wider tires on the back, and Lamborghinis use 120mm wider tires on the back. This is why. It's not because wider tires on the back make the car look better. (I checked tirerack.com; they sell a "matched tire set" for Lamborghinis. They want $291 per tire for the fronts and $751 per tire for the rears...I guess they figure if you can afford the insurance on one of those cars, you can afford $2100 for tires.) Volkswagen used the same tire size on both ends, so we get our safety through differential tire pressure.

The easiest way to remember it is, the fronts need 10psi less than the rears. I like running 18psi in front and 28 in back. Put 28 in the spare and paint the wheel red so you remember to get it off of there when you get the other tire fixed.

If you want to go the other way - running wider tires in back with the same air pressure at both ends - you can buy wider fenders. The wheel that comes on a Bug is 15" x 5.5" with a 4x130mm bolt pattern; as long as the bolt pattern matches you can buy wider wheels to fit. Try a 15" x 6.5" wheel; that should give you a good safe ride for not an outrageous price.

Your horn don't work what areas do you look at?

If your horn is not working first check the fuse for horn located on the fuse block underneath dashboard on drivers side, if fuse is good check wiring to horn underhood, see if there is a disconnected line or shorted out wire. If Both fuse and wiring check out good, then you have to check the lead wire going threw the steering column (it end up at center bumper pad on steering wheel. 1 wire will attach there and the bumper pad is held on by 2 screws or bolts from the backside of steering wheel. HOPE THIS HELPS YA. There is nothing more to the horn system. Your Friend the Secret Mechanic. any other questions Email me at: Butusov_Garage@comcast.net.

Diesel engine cars can probably double that, the motor anyway.

I have a howard arms 38 special what is the originand years of manufacture?

I suspect your firearm is a .38 S&W, not a .38 Special. The latter is more powerful and too much for an older .38 S&W revolver...so the .38 Special case was lengthened to avoid such a mistake. In the same way, the .38 Special case was lengthened to create the .357 Magnum in 1935. I have a small revolver I believe to be made by Howard Arms and found this site while researching my gun. I know nothing more at this time.

How do you remove the windshield on a volkeswagon bug?

On a Classic Bug, the glass is held in with gaskets. You get it out by VERY CAREFULLY sliding a razor-sharp knife between the gasket and the glass, and cutting the face of the gasket away. Extreme care must be taken to ensure you don't scratch the paint, break the glass or cut yourself to pieces. Anyway, once the face of the gasket is off the windshield just lifts off. To get it back in, start by laying the new gasket on the ground on a bright sunny day for about four hours. This softens it up and makes it easy to handle. You then put the gasket around the glass. You'll notice a groove in the back of the gasket, where the metal flange of the window hole fits; you put a piece of string in it all the way around. Someone gets in the car and someone else holds the glass up to the hole and pushes real hard against it. The person in the car uses the string to work the gasket around the metal flange. It sounds stupid but it's the only thing that works. (And can you imagine the outside-of-the-car guy at the Volkswagen factory on his first day? "Your job is to lean on this window.")

What would cause the front end on a 1963 Beetle to lock up when it hasn't been driven in 10 plus years all original?

Are the wheels locked up, won't spin? Probably the brakes are seized up, the shoes have seized on the drums. Might be the bearings rusted onto the spindles also, depends on the conditions it sat in for 10 years. Sometimes trying to rotate the wheels backwards will free them up enough to roll. Removing the brake drums on a seized up vehicle can be beyond the average hobbyist's abilities. A qualified mechanic will have to remove the drums and evaluate what's needed to be replaced, count on a full brake job and new drums at least. Try to find a shop that is familiar with older vehicles and hopefully old VW's. They can tow it to the shop.
