Does it sound like the car is getting compression when you turn it over? No spark may be because the distributor cap is way off. Timing could be gone. Ignition coil may need to be replaced. I would suggest searching in www.vwvortex.com in the JettaIII section or the 2.0L section and see what you can find.

Bulbs are burnt. replace both. low and high are together in the same bulb.

A very basic way to look at it is this.....

With 4.56 gears, the driveshaft will have to turn 4.56 times in order for your tires to make one full rotation.

With 4.88 gears, your driveshaft will have to go around 4.88 times for your tires to make one full rotation.

Basically, the higher the number, the more rotations the driveshaft will make.

On a 10 speed bike, you would climb a steep hill in 1st gear.... lots of pedaling to get the rear tire to move- it would move slowly, but you would have lots of hill climbing power. 4.88 gears would be similar to 1st gear on a 10 speed bike.... 4.56 gears would be similar to 2nd gear....4.10 gears would be similar to 3rd gear....etc.

The crankshaft sensor allow the computer to know where the crankshaft is in relation to its rotation. it basically tells the computer the engine speed, at what point to spray fuel into the engine and how much and also times the spark to ignite the fuel and air in the cylinder. . Some cars wont start with a bad crank sensor and some will start but will run bad.

First check the fuse, if the fuses are all good, take the lighter out and replace it with another one.Simple.

i need to know how much or estimated cost for a major tune up. i have had this car for 1yr and some months. i have already put in a new engine, coolant system, water pump, rotars and front pads. it is breaking me. underneath rattles real bad. i have not had that checked out yet. help

I would immediately check the oil level. If you find that it is not low of oil, immediately replace the filter with a new name brand filter. AC/Delco would be my choice in this vehicle. If that does not help, replace the oil pressure sending unit.

if it is the 1.8T yes... if its the V6 I do believe only 89 octane... and if its the W8 yes...

to replace the cylinder head you should get a chiltons book for your year make and model of your vehicle. If you have never replaced a head gasket before you should take care to make sure the timing on the camshaft and crankshaft are set to top dead center before removing the cylinder head because most volkswagons have an interferance engine which means the cam and crank must be timed properly or could cause cylinder valve damage. Take cylinder head to a machine shop and have them check the cylinder head for warpage with a straight edge after you have cleaned off the gasket and any material on the head. If cylinder head needs resurfacing, make sure the machine shop does this. Follow directions carefully to retorque the head down (if needed replace head bolts if they are torque to yield bolts). Make sure you repair the problem that caused the cylinder head gasket to leak. This problem could be anything from a leak to bad thermostat, or even a bad water pump. When i replace a head gasket I always replace the water pump and thermostat and flush the radiator, heater core and change the oil twice before driving. Most newer volkswagon vehicles have an air bleed procedure to get the air out of the cooland and to condition vehicle for proper coolant flow. check procedures and follow exaclty.

I just bought one of these myself. It's a tough call to say really. First gear sucks it, you need to get out of first really as soon as you are moving a little bit. From there, I sort of play it by ear if you here to strong a rev, shift up or down depending on if you need to slow or speed up.

The recommended antifreeze/coolant for a 2001 VW Jetta is what is referred to as "G12" ... (actual Pentosin brand part # is G001200), which is a pinkish/violet (reddish) colored formula. It is phosphate and silicate-free.

Below is for a different model VW and may not apply to your car. VW recommends you NEVER change the tranny fluid. Most mechanics disagree, if you are going to keep the car beyond 100k, you should change the oil every 60k or less. I don't know the details, but you must use the tranny fluid recommended by VW. No other. You have to drop the tranny pan and let all the oil drain out. Replace the filter. Replace the pan. Add fluid. Do NOT use the "flush" method promoted by many shops. It can damage the tranny.
