Why does the speedometer on a 1996 VW Jetta only work sporadically?
Hi, I had the same problem some months ago, the speedometer needle would work most of the times when I just started the car, but after running some time it would fall to 0mph, (and suddenly would work again after passing some rough terrain, that is the standard here in Mexico). I solved the problem dismounting the dash board, opening the rear part, where the PCB is, (circuit board), and I found that some soldering joints were broken, so I took my soldering iron and "retouch" the soldering points just melting the solder, I do not recall how I find the points that were desoldered by the vibration of the car, but it was easy to guess which points were broken (visibly). It solved the problem with my speedometer. It could be the same problem that you have, but also it could be the sensor gear with a teeth broken.
Where can you find a diagram for installing a new clutch in 1997 jetta?
The availability of diagrams will depend on a few variables including the year of your vehicle and how much of the vehicle is factory original. For original equipment diagrams, check your local auto parts stores for repair books for your specific vehicle published by companies such as Chilton's or Haynes. You may also order or download many repair manuals and individual diagrams online.
This happens sometimes with my car. It will set the alarm off when the plastic key comes apart. This is the case with a lot of vw keys. when the alarm goes off, i just push the plastic parts of the key back together and press the unlock button. I ended up glueing the key case back together and this stopped. It must send a signal when the device is apart from each other and once its back together, they key works and the alarm turns off. Hope this helps. Just make sure the plastic parts are connected on the key.
getting to the actuator is easy..... how to remove the rods attached to it is something else.....
How do you remove auto body molding?
better yet a plastic scraper or even a bondo spreader to get under the molding. and some general purpose adhesive remover and a razor blade to remove the tape (takes PATIENCE and dont cut yourself but its the quickest) Removing 2002 body mouldings: Get a hair dryer and put it on high. Put it on the moulding until it is very hot (a couple of minutes). Slowly peel off the moulding - heating a small section at a time. Remove the residual tape with reducer. Answer Most modern moldings are held on with double-sided tape. I always used a sharp putty knife and very carefully ran the knife along the tape between the molding and the panel. This requires patience. If you use the hair dryer method, you must be careful not to overheat the plastic or else the paint will peel. To reapply, remove all remains of the old tape and reapply. You can get this tape at any auto parts store.

How do you fix a parking brake if the button got knocked out of the handle?
Depending on the age of the car I would call or visit either a) (New) the dealer, b) (3-5years old) the manufacturer-specific wrecking yard, or c) (ancient) the local pull-it yourself wrecking yard.
I would buy whatever parts they recommended, and then take apart the whole thing and fix it.
A Haynes (or equivalent) repair manual for your car (about $20 at the local auto parts stoor ) is a good starting point.
2002 Saturn SL2 or SL1 or other similar years
Remove the black sheet metal screw on the passenger side of the rubber boot on the brake handle assembly. Wiggle the entire plastic handle and boot off the brake handle. The button is about 1" x 1" x 3/8". It is tapped with a #10 x 24 thread and screwed onto the operating rod. The spring that locks the button fits onto the threaded rod and operates by pushing the button out to lock the handle in position.
I was able to repair the stripped button with epoxy. First you must take the tension off the spring by compressing the spring and tying it with very thin wire or fishing line. Slip the spring onto the rod and slip it into the notch in the stamped metal handle. Glue the button back on. Make sure it is aligned properly. Now wait 24 hours or so for the epoxy to set-up and harden. Don't forget to put a rag under the epoxy to catch any drips. After the exopy is hard, snip off the wire compressing the locking spring and pull out the bits with needlenose pliers. Reinstall the boot and reinstall the screw.
You have just saved about 380 bucks based on NYC dealer prices for parts & labor.

How do you reset the check engine light on a 1997 Mazda 626?
"Disconnect the negative terminal and push brake pedal for 30 seconds" worked great! One note: You must use actual key to unlock doors after battery disconnect to reset car alarm so car will start.
I recomend getting the car checked out by a professional. And you never unhook the positive battery cable first, you always do the negative firstl. And sometimes when you do this it erases the computers memory. so take to a professional.
If you HAVE TO, disconnect the negative battery terminal. Put your foot on the brake pedal for 30+ seconds.
I tried the previous answer of removing the negative battery cable, and holding the brake pedal for 30 seconds and it WORKED!!! Just got back from the emissions test, and passed. THANKS!!!
