How do you change a brake light bulb in a 1999 Volkswagen Beetle?
"if you need to replace your tail light bulb, first remove the cover (it's round) from the inside of your trunk, there will be a black knob that needs to be unscrewed totally to release the back light casing. Next, along the rear fenders where the lights are, there are two gaps. The inside gap (nearest hatch back door) is a release tab/clip on the light inside between the gaps. Insert a butter knife or something slim and pull out casing (don't be afraid, and it takes a little force to pull it out). After you pull out the casing, you'll find two light switches (one is for the turn signals and other is your break lights). Turn the light switch counter clockwise (assuming it's hanging upside down) and remove. Switch out light bulb with new one (autozone has them for about $4.00 - package of 2) replace every thing back as you uninstalled it. It's recommended to replace all bulbs, that way you don't have to do it again later when the other goes out. It'll save you lots of time and money. Hope this will help anyone so print and save in your manual for later use."

Changing spark plugs - best to jack car up - and replace from under the vehicle, better visibilty in a garage, where sunlight does not come through top. Utilize a flash light or other lighting from bottom of vehicle. Replace plugs one at a time. Check your plug gap, even if they are pre-set, being careful not to bang them any during installation. Gap setting should be under specifications in owner's manual, on the "white" vehicle emissions sticker under the hood, or ask your auto parts to look up gap. lightly lube plugs groves, and clear out plug holes with lubed towel to pick up any foreign matter in plug port prior to installing ,gently put them in one at a time, being careful not to force them in or cross thread them. You may need a swivel attachment to your rachet. Make sure plug wires snap on tight. It is much easier to access the back two plugs on the driver's side through the flexible wheel well. How do you fix the tail lights to a 1968 volkswagen beetle?
Use a test light (any auto parts store) and check to see if you have power at the light socket. (Make sure the test light is grounded good by checking a known good light). If you do then try to clean the oxidation off the contacts on the bulb and the socket, with the power OFF. Also make sure you have a good ground for the tail light housing. I had that problem too. There should be a ground wire from the fender to the housing and from the housing to the light socket somewhere in there. If your fuse is good then check the power there too as the contacts for the fuse in the panel will corrode also. You should buy the Bently manual.
