there is a bolt hidden from view, that holds a clamp that holds the bottom lip of the battery. It is located centerline behind the battery. It is practically invisible even with a flash light. You need to move the battery flap out of the way and some cables and you still may not see it but its there. It may also be covered with dirt making it dificult to see as well. And be carefull putting the bolt back in, if you drop it it will fall into a body cavity and never come out, Ive been driving without the bolt and never had a problem i years as the battery is very snug anyway.

Depends a lot on the model and age. Some of the three cylinder engines in the 02-onwards cars have had issues, these were brand new in 2002 and the designs have been modified since to fix some of the problems that have appeared. One big problem with the 1.2 engines is slippage of the timing chain (the engines use a chain instead of a cam belt). In theory the chain is supposed to save on maintenance and never need replacing like an ordinary rubber cam belt, but in practice a problem with the tensioners meant that many of them slipped at around 40-50,000 miles, meaning the engines had to be stripped and rebuilt with new chains and modified tensioners. Be wary of any older (pre 2005) 1.2's that haven't had this work done.

if you are missing any gears in your manual transmission it is shot. You might as well replace the clutch while you have the tranny pulled so you dont have to do it later.

Open the door and look on the edge with the latch, there should be one large screw that holds the door handle to the door. Take the handle off and you should have access to the locks now.

I would say the only way to find out, is to try it and see, But be careful. My 93 advanced in to overdrive at about 130, it was still pulling at 138, the car at this point doesn't handle real well, so I backed off.

hi, I just performed the same task a few weeks ago on my 99 Beetle. High-five for deciding to do it yourself! if we Beetle owners took our cars to a mechanic everytime something broke we'd be living in a homeless shelter! This is the link that i printed out when changing my mirror switch. Unfortunately, half way through we realized that it was for a VW Golf rather than a beetle. Fortunately, though, the two cars are pretty similiar. The task was extremely easy. If I remember correctly, you can use this site to figure out how to take the door panel off...yes, you have to take the door panel off. Most of them have 1600cc engines. Be careful, now: 1969 was the last year of the 1500cc engine. Volkswagen often built or bought more parts than they needed for a particular model year. If they had 1500cc engines sitting there when your car came down the production line, that's what they installed. You can't get 1500cc piston & cylinder sets anymore because 1600cc sets fit perfectly.

If one bulb is burned out or there is any other circuit problem, the flasher won't flash. The GOOD bulb will just stay on. Check the bulb and socket in the one that's not turning on.

IF YOUR 2002 SOLARA IS A 3.0L ITS FAIRLY SIMPLE. THE FRIST THREE ARE RIGHT IN FRONT OF ENGINE. THE THREE BLACK BLOCKS YOU SEE ARE FASTEN TO THE VALVE COVER WITH A 10MM BOLT. THOSE BLOCKS ARE THE COIL PACKS. REMOVE THE BOLTS THEN REMOVE A SMALL WIRE HARNESS WITH A SMALL SCREW DRIVE, ITS JUST A CLIP. PULL THE COIL PACK STRAIGHT UP AND THE PLUG IS UNDER THAT. DO THAT FOR EACH COIL PACK(3). THE OTHER THREE PLUGS ARE BEHIND THE INTAKE MANIFOLD. FOLLOW THE THREE WIRES FROM THE FRONT. THESE ARE NOT COIL PACKS JUST NORMAL PLUG WIRES. IT IS TIGHT IN THE BACK BUT CAN BE DONE WITH OUT REMOVING THE INTAKE MANIFOLD. I HAVE BIGHANDS AND I DID IT FINE. REMOVE THE WIRES FROM THE VALVE COVER BY PULLING THEM STRAIGHT UP THEN THE PLUG WILL BE UNDER EACH WIRE.
