Keys locked inside 2001 vw beetle?

This just happened to me this morning, well at least I thought it did. I couldn't find the key anywhere, I figured I may have dropped it in the trunk while grabbing the groceries. So I grabbed the universal emergency car key (the wire clothes hanger) and a short flat and wide pry bar. Using a credit card to protect the rear window I created a 1/4 inch gap at the upper corner of the drivers door. We inserted the clothes hanger and was able to get the hook end behind the door latch. We twisted the hanger until the hook forced its way under the handle and then pulled. It really didn't take long to accomplish and left no visible damage to the door. The trunk mechanism was disabled so we dropped the rear seat to gain access to the trunk. Two hours later we found the key between the mattress and the side rail of our bed..... how did it get there?

What oil does a 2lt vw beetle use?

New Volkswagens use a special oil that Castrol makes that you will not find anywhere but at your volkswagen dealership. But if you don't mind using a different oil depending weather you have a newer beetle with the 2.5 or an older one with the 1.8 Turbo (2.0 and 1.8 Turbo are the same) the 1.8 uses a synthetic 10W-30 (4.5 quarts) and the 2.5 Inline 5 uses a synthetic 5W-30. Hope this helps you

Where is the transmission dipstick located on a 1999 VW Beetle?

There is no dip stick. Having transmission issues with 0wife's 98 beetle. (Q.) Asked the dealer how much to check the oil level. (A.)$165 to just check the oil. (Q.) Asked how much to fill it? (A.) $500 plus oil. This is how they make there cash for a crappy car. No more VW for my family. Crap car.

In checking all my fluid levels I noticed that there was no visible dip stick for the transmission. I called Neillo VW on Arden Way in Sacramento and was told there is NO DIPSTICK. The transmission on my VW Bug has a closed transmission. There is no dipstick and no way to monitor the fluid in a closed unit. I wished that I would have researched the mechanics of the Bug before buying it, but dang, it is such a cute little thing. There is something that looks like a cap instead if the dipstick, it is located above the transmission oil pan and it is facing to the front of the vehicle, it is quite hard to see, but it is there and it is in place by pressure, you may want to put the car on stands and have to take the front wheels off in order to find it, it is worth the trouble.

Why does the blue temperature light in a 2000 vw beetle turn from blue to flashing red?

Engine is overheating...not the correct answer. My 2002 does the same thing. I have had it to the dealer 9 times in a year. It is not over heating. They have replaced the sensor, heat pump,thermostat..still comes on. The dealer has not solved the problem in a year of visits.

I had the same problem with an '03. I took to the dealer many times, they changed everything, only when they changed the water pump did it seem to correct it. One time after warranty expired, even the check engine light came on, and a diagnostic code was issued that the dealer could not understand. After some research online I decided to change the water pump, timingbelt, thermostat, and temp control switch. I have done all at once, and not had a problem on that side since. (knock on wood)

How do you remove the inside door panel of a 2000 volkswagen beetle?

There are three T-25 head screws along the bottom of the inside door panel. Remove them. The face of the inside door handle is removable--just pry it off, probably don't even need a screwdriver to get it off. Underneath, you'll find two #1 Phillips head screws. Remove them. Finally, grasp the door panel from the bottom and pull up. It hangs over a little lip against the window. Watch the door lock, make sure the panel clears that. You should have access to all the wiring harnesses that keep the panel attached.

Where are the speakers in your 1973 Super Beetle located?

Look right under the steering wheel, should be one there.

When people do custom installs, they put in kick panels up front and a tray over the cargo area.

It works out pretty good Iguess.

How do you change the oil in a 1974 super beetle?

You will need four quarts of oil, a drain pan, a wash tub and some mineral spirits, and an oil change gasket set. You will also need a 10mm socket, a socket big enough to fit the drain bolt (21mm sounds right but don't quote me) and a torque wrench. Something like a razor blade to scrape off the old gasket would be good too.

First stick the drain pan under the engine and take out the drain plug. You don't need to jack up the car but set the parking brake and block the wheels so you don't get run over. When it quits dripping, remove the drain pan. Unscrew the six acorn nuts and remove the strainer cover, then the strainer. Wash all the parts you took off in mineral spirits--NEVER USE GAS! Dry well. The easiest way to dry the strainer is to swish it around in the air some.

Put the car back together by putting things on the strainer studs (there are six of them) in this order:

gasket

strainer

gasket

strainer cover

copper washers (use the new ones out of the gasket set)

acorn nuts

Torque the acorn nuts to 9 lb-ft--and be sure they've got the same torque, or it'll leak oil. Reinstall the drain bolt with the new washer and torque to 25 lb-ft.

Put 2-1/2 quarts of oil in it. It holds 2500ml of oil, which is a little more than 2-1/2 quarts, but if you put more than 2500ml of oil in the car you'll blow the main seal (which is why all aircooled VWs in the US leak from their main seals) and that is no fun at all to change. A little too little oil is way better than a little too much.

Finally, unplug the center wire on the distributor and crank the engine until the oil pressure light goes out. Plug it back in and start your car.

Why can't i select reverse gear on my 1969 VW Beetle?

You have one of three problems: the clutch is misadjusted, the shift coupler has gone bad or the transmission has gone bad.

The first thing I want you to do is to go to a deserted straight road, stop your car and shut your engine off WHILE YOU'RE IN THE ROAD!!! Set your handbrake and try putting the car in reverse. Does the shift feel good? Or does it feel like you're shifting in a bowl of mush? If your shifting is mushy, that's the shift coupler. Once you get the trans in reverse, make sure no one's coming and try starting the car. If the trans really is in a working reverse gear, it'll jerk around while it's starting and then it'll start going backward. (Which is why you don't want other cars coming toward you!)

If you have a good shift coupler and you can't get it in reverse while you're shut off, take the car to a VW mechanic and have the trans looked at; you may need a new one.

How do you change rear brakes 1967 VW?

Buy the Bently manual. I has all the info you need for any thing. The biggest problem will be to get the Axle nut off and on. It has about 240 lbs of torque on it. There is a new tool on the market that is really neat, It's used for the Axle nut and the Gland nut that holds the fly wheel on. It cost's about $60 US but it's really worth it. How are you going to torque the nut back on? You have to take them back off again to redo the wheel bearings right? It bolts to the brake drum and has a couple of gears to reduce the torque needed. When you put the axle nut back on you just retorque it to 30 or 40 lbs. Most of the main online VW stores have them now.

How do you change spark plugs on a 2002 Volvo?

do not know but do know that it takes a Volvo dearlship mechanic 50mins to change.

you don't need to take it to the dealership. It is simple as long as you have done some work on cars. Just remove the top engine cover by removing the screws. There will be 4 wires. 2 for ingition coil and 2 that come from the ingition coil. Each ignition coil controls two spark plug, make a note of the wiring. If you screw up your wiring your engine will misfire and you can damage your engine. Take the coils out and use an appropriate size spanner to remove the spark plugs. Replace with original Volvo spark plug (each around $13) or use Bosch Platinum that you can get from Autozone. Put the new plugs in, make sure the thread is correct. Don't force it in if it feels too tight, this may mean you didn't slip the plugs in correctly. (Before you screw the plugs in check the gap between the electrical spark bit on the plug, make sure they are the same, you can buy a spark plug gap measuring tool from Autozone, it is around a $1 and it the size of a silver dollor). Screw the plugs in, insert the coils, reconnect the wires. That's it, start the engine and check if the engine sounds smooth. It should take around 30 minutes.

5-cylinder Volvo engines: If you have a 5-cylinder turbo-charged engine each plug will have it's own coil. The coils sit on top of the engine under the plastic engine cover. You will need a torx screwdriver to get the cover off. Then remove the one 10mm bolt holding each coil and simply lift the coil and its rubber boot out and lay it to the side. There is no need to detach any wires or connectors. You can now see the actual spark plug at the bottom of the hole. To remove the plug just unscrew it with a spark plug socket wrench and lift it out. A spark plug socket wrench with a rubber insert that grips the plug is very handy with these engines because the plugs are so deep in the engine. When inserting the new plugs screw them in hand-tight and then tighten them slightly less that 1/4 turn more using the wrench. Do not overtighten the plugs because the block is aluminum and you may cause damage. DO NOT use Bosch Platinum +2 or +4 plugs in one of these engines. This engine will simply not run well with them and your check engine light will soon come on. Use single-electrode Volvo, Bosch, or comparable plugs. Re-assemble everything in the order you took it apart. It should take about an hour the first time you do it.
