What would make the window on your Volkswagen beetle sunroof start to close stop and go back to open?

Same thing happens to my 2004 Passat. It only happens when the car has been exposed to direct sunlight and made hot. When it is cool it has never happened.

Why didn't VW managers more accurately forecast the sales potential for the new beetle?

This seems to be an essay question for various schools. There is no easy answer to sales forecast failures or successes. In this case VW was looking for the New Beetle to be a 'halo' car that would drive sales of it's mainstream models, but not outsell them. They underestimated it's appeal and the oncoming popularity of the 'retro' styling other new car manufacturers jumped on afterwards.Car manufacturers in general did not recognize the market for this new retro styling approach until after VW's success. VW essentially took a chance and broke new styling ground with this car with results no one predicted. In hindsight, playing on one of the most iconic vehicles ever created was a good move for VW, it could have easily been a disaster also.

Can you find the year a Remington 1100 shotgun was made with the serial number?

Yes, go to www.oldguns.net and scroll down the left sidebar. There is a serial number search engine which should answer your question. Send them a note thanking them - this is very useful!

AnswerYou can also call Remington 1-800-243-9700 and follow the phone prompts, this will allow you to talk with a live person who will access their data base for serial numbers to tell you the year your weapon was made. They may ask you for addition information such as the stamped letters on the left side of the barrel.

The barrel codes are the answer for dating a Remington, starting in 1921 all firearms were date stamped and the table code can be looked up on the Remington Society of America's website manufactured link. There are serial lists for ~1905-1930ish firearms those before that burned except what has been pulled from Military records and after that modern isn't tracked by serial no (outside Remington) because everyone uses the barrel code.

Will switching to Biodiesl from regular diesel damage a 2001 New Beetle TDI?

I do not recomend using biodiesel. If there is any thing in your fuel tank the bio diesel will break it loose and stop up the fuel filter and anything else it gets into. Plus it's higher than regular diesel fuel. I tried using it and had problems with it. ------------------------------------------------------- Buried deep on VW's web site is a claim that running B5 biodiesiel is supported and will not void the warrenty. Due to a recent web site redesign, I can't find that page yet.

When should you replace the timing belt on your 2000 VW Beetle?

Approx every 60000 miles. Keep in mind that this is a critical repair. Without getting too technical, if the timing belt breaks, the piston can stike the intake or exhaust valve, bending it. If that happens the cost to repair that damage is between $2500 and $3500. The cost for a timing belt should be about $350 - $450. Most of that will be labor charge (the belt itself is only about $80) however this not really a do it yourself repair.

Where is the shift lockout switch on a 96 Suzuki Sidekick with auto transmission Vehicle will not shift out of park most of the time Also is it possible to bypass this switch Thanks for any help?

It's in the under the center console in front of the gear shifter. The switch will release when the brake pedal is pushed. My girlfriends car does something similar it just won't go into park and stay there so you can't take the keys out. I pulled it out and cleaned it up a bit and it seems to work now. As for overriding it, I wouldn't do it because it's a safety feature of the car. If it becomes too much of a pain check around to see how much a new one is and check some junkyards to see if you can get one there. It will definitely save money doing that.

Where is the fuse for the stereo in 2000 beetle?

There are two fuses. One is in the fuse box at the left end of the dash, the other is behind the radio itself. To remove the radio you need a pair of special tools that fit in the slots on the radio. I borrowed them from a friend who owns a body shop. It has to be the exact one - there are about a dozen different types.

If a generator belt is loose will it cause a 1972 vw bug to mist?

Is it Mist or Miss? If it's mist you're talking about, determine if you have somehow come in contact with Herbie or some other Bug with human like emotions and characteristics. If it's Miss as in the engine is not firing on all cylinders the answer is, probably not. Bugs of that age can run on almost no voltage. Unless the belt is so loose that the charging system is not working at all and the battery is completely depleted it won't cause a miss. Look at the ignition system from the points, rotor, Distributor cap and especially the spark plugs and wires. Worst case if you have a serious exhaust valve leak it may appear to be a miss. If you have ruled out the ignition system, get a compression check of all cylinders. Quick check for an exhaust valve leak is to place a crisp dollar bill on the end of the exhaust pipe holding it with your finger at the top of the circular opening firmly. (Don't burn your finger) If you hear the bill slapping the exhaust opening as it gets sucked back by the open exhaust valve then it's time to tear that engine apart before you drop that valve into the engine and cause more serious damage. Water cooled engines can tolerate a valve leak better than air cooled. Bad exhaust valves need almost immediate attention on an air cooled engine.

How do i replace Fog light bulb on a 98 beetle?

I have a 2005 New Beetle, I assume the round fog lights under the front bumper are the same. Replacing the bulb is very simple... First, don't disconnect any wires from the back of the fog light housing. The back of the housing, it's black in color, turns counterclockwise to remove. The entire housing will turn about a quarter turn and you can pull it off. It still has the wires attached so let it hang down. This exposes the bulb's base which is held on by a tension clip. Push the top of the clip inwards and then move slightly to the side to release the tension. The clip will hang down, the bulb can now be removed by pulling it out by the base.

To install the new bulb, reverse these directions. Remember, don't handle the new bulb by the glass as the oils on your hand can cause the bulb to break when turned on. As a precautionary measure, it is wise to wipe down the new bulb with alcohol prior to installation to remove any oil that may have gotten on it. Put the new bulb in the seat where the old one came out...there are two dimples in the seat that line up with the tits on the base of the bulb. Once seated, hold the bulb in place with the tension clip, sliding the top of the clip over to catch the groove it came out of. The clip will now hold the bulb in place. Fit the black plastic housing back into the rear of the lamp, wires still attached, and turn clockwise about a quarter turn till you feel it click. Pat yourself on the back...you're done. bb

How do you test to see if the distributor is working located on a 1994 Acura Integra?

There really isn't a straight forward answer to this. I was still getting spark when cranking the car but what I did anyway was eliminate the coil by testing it according to the Haynes manual. Testing the ignitor is tricky and most parts stores won't accept returns on installed electrical parts, $80 trial and error part. If they will take it back give it a shot. If both of these yield no results then fork out approx $200 for a new distributor. The core fees for these are around $150 extra! Mine did not show any symptoms, it just would not start. Everything acted like all systems go, but no ignition... It happened after driving the car approximately 10 miles and the car was turned off as normal. It didn't just die while driving down the road. Install it according to the Haynes manual or buy the part and let a shop install it.

the best way to see if your distribitor is working take number 1 spark plug (The 1 closest to the the pulley belts (Driver side) Hold the rubber part BE SURE TO HOLD THE RUBBER PART THE COIL WILL SHOCK YOU PRETTY GOOD! then take the copper part in the center of the plug and hold it close to the frame of the car a metal part have another person crank the engine if you see the spark almost constantly its good
