How do you turn on heater in a 65 vw bug?

In the older beetles, the heat is turned on by pulling the small levers between the seats.

Note that the heat in these beetles was never very reliable or effective, many of these old beetles have had the heating system disabled at some point over the years.

What octane gas should you use in your 1998 beetle?

You should be able to find the answer in your manual in the glove compartment. If you can't find the manual that comes with the car, go to a VW dealership and ask the mechanics, they should know off the top of their head. My guess would be medium grade or premium. DON'T run low octane gas until you know. If your car was designed to run on low octane, running premium isn't going to hurt it very much if at all, while running low octane in a car meant to run high octane, even for a brief period, can cause serious damage to your heads that will cost upwards of 1 to 2 thousand.

How do you change a headlight in a 2008 VW beetle?

Depending if you have HID lamps or not. But to remove the head lamp assembly to be able to change it open the hood, and look towards the headlamp, you'll see a plastic hook shaped handle. Just above the hook there is a push clip, pull down on the handle just a little bit and push the clip in and then lift on the handle. This action turns a retainer cam that locks the head lamp housing in place. It can stick sometimes, assist by wiggling the head lamp while lifting of the handle. Pull out the head lamp assembly, unplug the electrical connector and look at the rear of the assembly.

What is white milky substance inside the oil cap of a vw beetle mean?

Have this problem right now. Could be problems with your head gasket. I have recently had my engine rebuilt so garage told me it was most likely not my HG. If you only really take short journeys it can be due to the oil not warming up enough and condensation forming on the cap. Was told to take it out on a long drive once in a while.

Can you use new glass fuses for your super beetle?

I wouldn't recommend it. Aircooled VW fuses are pointy ended, and the fusebox on an aircooled VW is designed with them in mind. Technically, you COULD replace the fusebox and use glass fuses, but if I was going to all that trouble I'd change to either the modern plastic fuses or to circuit breakers.

How do you fit an engine in a new beetle?

For this job, you really need a service manual. Haynes makes good, inexpensive manuals for the home mechanic.

Are heater control knobs on a 2000 VW Beetle backlit and do they have a fuse?

I just went to the dealer yesterday to ask about how to replace the burnt out bulb in the control knobs. The control knobs do not have a specific fuse. The fuse that would cover the lights behind the knobs also covers all the instrument lights.

You probably have a burnt out bulb. The dealer told me to remove the two screws that are under the panel where the heated seat adjustments are. That small panel is suppose to come off. Then you should be able to remove the cowel around the heater knobs. There is only one bulb and that is suppose to be behind the blower switch. When you locate the bulb, it is in a terrible location. You can use an air line hose and push it over the bulb. That is enough pressure to pull the bulb out and to put it in. Then put the cowels and cover plates back. I plan to work on my beetle on Saturday. So I can offer more help after I fix mine. At this point my comments are only what the dealer told me. Hope this helps. Tom

How Change VW Polo 1999 Number plate light?

On the left side there is a spring steel clip. Push a fine screwdriver downwards between the light and the bumper at the same time pulling up on the left side. The steel clip will free itself allowing the unit to be lifted to the left and out - thus freeing the right hand locking lugs. Installation in the reverse - locate the right hand side locking lugs and push down on the left hand side to re-engage the spring steel clip. The bulbs are 12v 3w T-10 Wedge type.

Where is the air conditioning drain on 1997 jetta?

The drain on the 97 Jetta is not accessible from under the dashboard, as I discovered after removing enough panels to expose the whole arrangement. There is a stamped metal tube that extends from the condenser unit forward through the firewall and the only access to the end of this tube is directly behind the engine in the engine compartment itself. Behind the engine you will see a foil insulation panel glued against the firewall with a couple of horseshoe shaped break-outs. Pry the the lower center break-out upwards. Do not remove it completely. Right under it you will feel a rubber flap covering the end of the tube. Unfortunately it is not visible from any working angle. You can pry the rubber flap up with your finger, but do not stick your finger into the tube. Insert a very small stick or short small screwdriver into the tube and move it in a circular motion to break up the jelly that has accumulated. The water that is in the unit will begin to flush out the jam-like plug or clog. Once you have stirred and the water is beginning to flow remove the stick while continuing to hold the rubber flap open for a good strong flush while the water lasts. Then let go of the flap. Do not force it shut but let it relax on its own. Carefully fold the foil break-out down into place, leaving a little space between it and the rubber so as not to inhibit drainage in the future.

How do you replace a headlight on a 2000 Volkswagen Beetle?

http://www.cindyli.com/index.php/site/comments/vw_beetle_headlight_replacement/.

ALSO: It IS possible to change the bulb yourself even IF the owner previous to you has broken the lever that controls the motion of the headlight assembly. I know this because I just did it.

There is a small, rectangular, black button that would have controlled the motion of the lever to the headlight assembly before whoever broke the thing did whatever they were doing to it.

Depress that button with a screwdriver or other sturdy poking device. Don't put the screwdriver down yet! You still need it! The lever just controls a plastic ring inside the mounting. That ring houses a plastic track on which the inner peg of the headlight assembly moves as you pull it out. Use the screwdriver to pry some of the adhesive loose around the front of the headlight assembly. This will make the rest of the process easier.

Now find the back of the assembly and give it a good shove out. Even with the track resting uneven inside that ring, you should be able to get it to move a LITTLE bit. I was able to get a centimeter or so on the front. This was plenty of room.

Look at that empty track where the lever used to be and laugh at it. You are gonna be fine. You will not have to pay VW the labor fee to do this. We almost there.

Using the hands the creator gave you, pull the flat, top part of the plastic housing assembly directly AWAY from the headlight assembly with your left hand, and pull out on the headlight assembly from the front with your right. You only have to move it enough to get the peg out of that inner ring track. It's only about three inches long, and once it's out, it's out.

After some maneuvering, you should be able to pull the headlight assembly all the way out and continue with the rest of the instructions.

Remeber, exert some force on the thing. It's ok to manhandle it a little. I mean, it's already broken. Worst case scenario, you'll have to go to the dealership like you were going to in the first place.

Anyway, this whole process took me about ten minutes to figure out.

Good luck!
