How do you uninstall Windows XP Professional if it is not in the Add-Remove Programs list?

Windows XP Pro is not a program, it is the OS (operating system), as such it will not be found in Add/Remove programs unless you have upgraded from a previous OS such as 98. If this is the case do this to uninstall XP.

# Start your computer to Safe Mode with Command Prompt. You must log on as an administrator or a user that has administrator rights. # At the command prompt, type cd\, and then press ENTER. # Type cd\windows\system32, and then press ENTER. # Type osuninst.exe, and then press ENTER. # Follow the instructions on the screen to begin uninstalling Windows XP from your computer to restore the previous operating system. Maybe you are not upgrading from a previous Windows OS? You can uninstall Windows XP when you install another OS or reinstall XP. Just format the harddisk. Simple.

Non pre-emptive means once CPU starts executing one process, it will not be taken out of the CPU until it is terminated or it has to wait for some event. Can I remove file dwm.exe without affecting windows 7?

Not recommended because that file is a valid Windows 7 file (Desktop Manager), and without it running there might be some degrading of performance related to visual effects, etc. You can, however, open up properties for this and uncheck the features you don't want it to control anymore, which may or may not free up unused RAM.

To clear the RAM one has to reboot the PC (restart). And see all those pretty icons on the taskbar? All of those are being loaded into RAM when starting up ... they do that so that they are instantly available to the user. So you have to wait 3 seconds for an app to load ... where's the fire?

How do you play a video file with faad aac audio 706d in windows xp?

http://mulder.dummwiedeutsch.de/home/?page=projects&browser=ie I encoded a 1 hour DivX 4 / MP3 PVR file from a 2.283 Gbyte file to "Stargate SG-1 (10 00 pm) - h.264 - AAC.avi" 393.57 Mbyte highly compressed file using 2005 vintage mencoder.exe, but it took many hours on my 700 MHz Athlon T-Bird CPU computer. I could play the file only with mplayer.exe 2005 version, but it had no GUI controls for seeking within the file, nor for adjusting the sound volume level. Just now I updated this 2005 software to 2008-April version by Google searching for >mplayer GUI< then examining each entry for what I needed. I'm running MS Windows 2000, but a lot of the software is for Linux or similar. A Mplayer Windows GUI link lead me to the linked page above. Windows Mplayer GUI description copied and pasted here from the download page linked above:

---- This package contains the latest builds of MPlayer for the Windows platform as well as SMPlayer and MPUI.

Thanks to the award-winning MPlayer engine, more than 192 Video- und 85 Audiocodecs are supported natively!

For maximum performance the package includes optimized MPlayer binaries for various CPU types.

Furthermore the Full-Package includes the Binary Codec Package to enable even more audio/video formats.

Everything in one self-contained download :-) ---- The same author on the same page has numerous other possibly useful tools...

Should you update from Windows 5.1 to Windows 7?

Windows 5.1, or Windows XP, has been the most popular version of Windows for a long time. Windows Vista has many issues causing people to wait for Windows 7 before upgrading. By the time Windows 7 comes out, Windows XP will probably be too outdated and, assuming Windows 7 has good performance and features, it would be a good upgrade.

At the moment, Windows 7 is in Alpha stage and it will be another couple years, give or take, before you will be able to install it. Even then, your existing hardware may or may not be sufficient for Windows 7, and you would need to buy a new PC.

If buying a new computer anyway, a Mac should be considered, as it generally is a more stable and user-friendly operating system compared to Windows, and their hardware is worth the price (internal serge-protector, web-cam, monitor, and general long-lasting). However, Windows XP should serve you well for a while longer still, and Windows 7 may very well be a good choice.

If you think you would like a newer operating system, you should also consider Linux. A new version of Ubuntu (Linux) (version 8.04) will be available April 24 2008. It is a good operating system with low system requirements, and with Compiz 3D desktop graphics, it is very modern and cool. Plus, it is fairly easy to download and install Wine to run most of your Windows software, assuming the available open-source software isn't sufficient. You can even duel-boot Linux with Windows XP or run Windows XP as a virtual machine using VirtualBox.
