How does geographical features affect climate in Juneau Alaska?

The mountainous terrain surrounding Juneau Alaska causes large variations in average rainfall, snow and windspeeds. Oragraphic processes,ie- upslope flow ,funneling of winds and other orographic effects, common throughout all mountainous regions, are enhanced in and near Juneau by the citie's realitive nearness to the gulf of Alaska.Downtown Juneau receives over 80 inches of rainfall yearly while the airport less than 30 miles north receives less than 60 inches annually.Downtown Juneau, rainfall is increased on average because it lies in a region of upsloping winds ,which increase cloudcover and enhance rainfall. The airport,in contrast lies in a region generally prone to downsloping airflow, thus rainfall is decreased.

The key is to Mulch... Mulch... Mulch!

How can you make a 3D model of Alaska's Northern Lights?

depends on how realistic you want to get, 1)wire, cotton Balls, Spray paint. or 2) a fish tank of water (10 gal plus) cloud the water and shine a light through the tank at say 45* angle. or a laser pointer moving side to side. might get the desired effect. I lived up North at the Peace River for over 4 years and would often sit in my car and watch the Northern Lights dance across the sky. I still can't get over the beauty of it. I suggest you use shards (uneven pieces of colored plexiglass or colored shards of mirrors) each piece glued (with glass glue) at uneven angles length-wise and put a strobe light affect behind them giving them a vision of colors dancing into each other. Or use the above and a colored multi-colored strobe light behind clear shards of plexiglass of glass. P.S. Shards are uneven pieces of plexiglass or glass with semi-sharp edges.

Why does a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 use so much oil when towing a camper?

Look for an intake manifold plenum gasket leak. This causes engine oil to be sucked into the intake. Useually a ping under load will be present. Check to see if a vacume is prisent in the crankcase at idle. Do this test by removing the pcv vale on the pasenger side of the engine pluging the hole in the valve cover and installing a vacume-pressure gauge to the hose connected to the air cleaner on the driver side. If a vacume present gasket is bad. If there is positive pressure present it's ok. If you don't have the gauge you can use your finger to cover the hose on the driver side for a couple of seconds to detect the vacume or pressure. The gauge is by far the better way to go. I found the price to have this work done was around 750.00 at general auto repair shops and 1,000.00 at the dealer. If you go to a auto repair shop I would suggest that you still use dealer parts. They have a repair kit that has new gasket and bolts included. I think you can get a new replacement pan made of aluminum as well to replace the old tin one. If you havent done a tune-up lately its the perfect time to get to the distributor. Good luck
