How do you adjust the rear drum brakes on a Chevy G30?
You shouldn't do this if you don't already know how. I can explain the procedure, but don't advise you actually doing it yourself.
1) just above the rear axle, you'll find a small (1/2" x 1" or so) rubber plug.
2) pull the plug out
3) using a "brake spoon" (special tool) insert into the slot (kind of a screwdriver with the right bends in it
4) feel around till you feel a wheel with notches in it (it is very thin)
5) turn the wheel (it's like a ratchet) it will only go one direction
6) both back wheels MUST be off the ground
7) turn the ratchet only until you hear a slight "drag" when you spin the wheel, turning it too tightly will cause you major grief. At that point, you'll need a mechanic to fix it.
8) these breaks will "self adjust" if you back the car up and apply the brakes hard, they will also self adjust as you set and release your park brake.
