How long does it take for rust to appear?

There is no specific answer different car makers go to more trouble than others to stop rust and so this means some brands go rusty faster than others. Fait for example use to be terrable for rusting out really fast don't know what they are like these days tho. However if you take any car near salt water it rust faster than if you don't. There are things you can do to make any car last longer tho, you can have the pannels taken off by a pannelbeater and they put like a wax type product on the car, this seems to make a huge difference. Hope this helps :)

What color car is best to buy to stay cool black or green?

== black is really a cool color to spend your money only when you can take care of it like your baby. yes it means, that it demand care. go for black only if you have the enthusiasm to take care of it. green is not a cool color but, yes, it demand less care. happy motoring.

Lighter colors reflect the sunlight and dark colors absorb it and become hot, but little of this heat is transmitted into the passenger compartment, so it shouldn't make a lot of difference. Unless you mean like, "Cool car, Dude." Then, definitely go for something small and black. White, or silver. Black is the worst color to buy if you want to stay cool, and Black will show every little thing on your paint job, like scratches, dents ,dings, and dirt. Silver is the best color you can get. green, black absorbs heat That first answer is way off, the heat transfer through conduction from the ambient summer air and the heating of the surface from radiation on a black cars roof is phenomenal,,,, that roof can well past 200 degrees on a hot summer day. If you dont think so put your hand on one this summer and see. Buy a motorcyle...Cool and cool. Black is a bad color for cars heat wise. I know I own a black car and it shows any speck of dirt and scratches. If I wanted to be cool green is a good color.

How do you tell real leather from fake leather?

Steps to tell real leather from fake leather:

  1. Look for a label indicating that the product is leather. Sounds obvious, but it's the most sure-fire way. Real leather products will proudly sport this fact, whereas you know it's a fake if the label reads, "Man made materials." Don't buy a product without a label.
  2. Study the edging where the fabric has been cut. Real leather will have a rough-around-the-edges look and feel to it, but fake leather will look and feel like foam or plastic.
  3. Feel the fabric. Fake leather has an artificially smooth, often plastic feel to it. Depending on the type and quality of leather, real leather can range from coarse to silky smooth. But the texture will generally be less consistent than fake (since you can't regulate the real thing) and have a suppler feel to it.
  4. Examine for pores on the surface of the leather. Pores on the fake will be in a consistent, repeating pattern, whereas pores on the real thing will be more irregular.
  5. Take a whiff of the product. If it doesn't have that distinct "leather" scent, you can be sure that it's a fake.
  6. Spend some time comparing fake leather products with genuine leather. Once you've seen the difference between the two, you will eventually get good at spotting a faux right away.

Your car door does not open from the inside or out unless you roll the window down and it pops open well now the window is rolled down and it wont roll back up the door wont open what do you do?

If you can hear a clicking on the door - then you know the fuse, switch and circuit are good. = = You need to open up the door - and using a bulb tester or voltmeter - test at the motor to see if you have battery power when the switch is operated..

If you dont..then its a relay fault or break in the wiring inside the door somewhere ( unlikely but can happen )

If you do get voltage ( battery voltage ) - then the fault is either the motor itself or the motor is jammed or the workings...

Try the motor then off the door - but remember it wont have the load of the window - but try it... if it doesn't work - then you need a new motor and mech.. Check to then, that the window runs smoothly up and down by hand. For more information go to www.fixtor.com

Can a car be repaired if the frame is damaged?

It depends on how badly. Some body shops have equipment for straightening bent frames. If the metal has actually buckled, the repair might involved cutting it out and welding in a new piece. That procedure would be a job for a real expert, if the result is to be safe. The cost of frame repair may be prohibitive in some cases. And your state's laws may require a salvage title on the result. Your regular backyard mechanic will unlikely have the dimension specifications information for a vehicle's frame. Specialized equipment is required to carefully pull a bent frame back into manufacturer's specifications. A backyard mechanic might cause more damage to the frame and weaken it if it is not done properly.

How do you install window seals on a Lincoln mark V11?

my answer to this question comes from my own problem with my 93 Lincoln mark VIII. the wheather stripping around the rear glass had severe dry rot, and the only way i could replace it was to remove the rear glass. the wheather stripping actually is grooved to sit under the glass, thus the sealant holding the glass has to be removed.

How much does it cost to reupholster a car?

Having your vehicle's interior reupholstered can range from under a $1000.00 to well into the tens of thousands. It all depends on what you are wanting done and what materials you wish to use. Most of my work is done on Street Rods and classic cars and I would guess that the average cost is somewhere in the $4500.00 range. Materials can cost between $10.00/yard to $75-80.00/yard. Then you have to consider all the material that isn't seen such as seat foam and sound and heat insulation, not to mention panel boards for making door panels. Then one must decide upon the "Look" that you are going for, Do you want an original looking interior in your muscle car or would you rather go with something more modern with build in DVD players and subwoofers? I even installed fish tanks in a car once. It is nearly impossible to give a quick answer to this question as Custom Interiors are just that "Custom". Your best course of action is to find a local shop and simply ask questions. Most shops will have no problem spending a little time with you to give you a rough idea of what it will cost to perform the services that you are wanting. Take in magazines with pictures of interiors that you like, though don't expect them to simply duplicate someone else' work. Make it your own with your own ideas. Don't be afraid to make suggestions of things you would like done. Go to several shops and repeat this process until you find a shop and crew that you feel you can afford and will do the job you want.
