Heat it first with a hair dryer. When it's warm start pulling on one end and move the dryer to point at the underside of strip, this will soften the glue. Keep pulling and it will come off. Get rid of residue with Goo Gone, it will not harm dashboards.

I remember, with about 99% accuracy, that the Turtle Wax sign was on Ashland Avenue, and I would say very close to Lake Street! I remember the sign well. Color of shell would change to forecast weather. I would LOVE to get a picture of that sign! Any idea where I might get a picture? Yes the Turtle Wax turtle was on top of a building that was Ashland and Madison. The building itself was triangular and I think the other street was Ogden. The turtle revolved and yes the shell did change color to forecast the weather and the base gave the time and temp. I wish I had a photo of this...most people think I'm crazy when I mention a revolving turle on top of building!

I did two of these jobs last month.The replacement shocks I got just bolted on very much like the originals on the top side and cliped on the bottom. Removeing the old one is a little tricky figering out how to flip the little spring clip up then pull it out then pop the shock off.Have somebody to hold the gate up for you while you work it is much safer than a prop rod.
