Chances are your car is not charging properly. Be sure that the red CHARGE light comes on when you turn on ignition, but goes off once car starts. These cars have a very complex engine computer that requires almost a full 12 volts to run correctly. Unless your car has the Bose option, the factory radio should not draw enough power to affect the engine if the battery had enough power to start the car period.

A good test that the car is charging at all is to shut off all accessories but leave engine running while you CAREFULLY disconnect your negative battery cable. Its best to wear eye protection just in case, because there will be some spark. If the engine stops right away, the car is not charging enough, or not at all and you more than likely need an alternator.

Yes. If you don't know what you are doing you might mess things up so that you won't be able to get the car to the shop. If you want to try, then this is the way to go about it. First thimg that you must do is to measure the resistance in that little chip in the upper part of the key, then you have to go to Radio Shack and buy a resistor with the same rating. The best thing to do is to solder the resistor in place but if you are not sure about that then make sure that you buy connectors, when you have all of the parts. You then remove the lower steering column cover you should then see two wires that are molded together with a plug about 18 inches from the cylinder where you insert the key (this is not actually the ignition switch). The wires that you are looking for are stiffer than the other wires under the dash if you have a problem finding the correct wires then you can go to the local public library and find the correct wiring diagrams (remember to take some change with you so you can make a copy of the correct page). I have 25 years experience in auto repair.

The pair of two wires under the column are often inside a thicker orange colored jacket that insulates them. Be sure to plan ahead so that the spot along the wires that you splice in the resistor will be in an area with the least amount of interference from other moving parts or your legs when getting in and out of car. If this delicate connection gets bumped or comes apart, your car wont start or wont stay running because the computer will shut down your injectors. A good rule to remember is to watch the yellow SECURITY light when you first turn on the ignition to start the car. It should go right back off. All you have to do to save yourself some trouble is go to a car audio and security shop around your house and ask the main alarm installer there to draw you a diagram on how to bypass the key on your car. most likely he will be able to give you a copy of such diagram and he can also give you the part you will need to do the job. This will cost you no more the 30 bucks or so.

I THINK YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH YOUR PASSKEY SYSTEM The charging system or the starter is mostly likely your problem. I just went through this with my Cadi. What ended up being the problem was that the factory alarm within the car was starting to fault. The alarm had to be replaced and a new ignition cylinder, and new pass key. Answer Other posters are correct, the pass key system is malfunctioning intermittently. Over time the black plastic insert in the key wears out causing it to read improperly when inserted into the car. The pass key system then kicks in and shuts off the starter and fuel pump as a security precaution which leads to no starting. My Deville had the same problem so I took it to be tested at a GM dealership (has to be GM, others don't have the equipment) and they will make you an exact copy of the key for between $25 and $60 depending on the place you go to. The key should be replaced as soon as possible or the car may not start at all when the sensor cannot read the key code anymore.

When you say key tumbler, are you referring to thr ign key cylinder, door , glove box or trunk cylinder. All tricky, most difficult--steering col lock cylinder. Steering wheel, signal switch, must come off.

The first thing you should do is loosen the four nuts bolting the seat to the car. Then you can tilt the seat back and disconnect the wire harness from the motor, and finally manuever the seat out of the car. Installation is the reverse.

If you are trying to clear codes, you can use a scanner, also, if you disconnect the battery for an extended period of time it will reset, however, you are going to flash and engine code for the next 50 cycles. (It is only to tell you that are battery has been recently disconnected). If you are trying to reset the BCM to program a keyless entry remote, remove the fuse from the panel and switch from ACC to off to ACC to set it into program mode. The exception to this rule is the 1999 Grand am. You will need a scanner. I you.
