Car Shaking Problems

Car shaking problems are usually the results of mechanical problems. Out of adjustment tires or suspension will make the car shake after reaching a certain speed. Warped brake rotors will also make the car shake when it’s slowing down.

ONE OF My cylinder is misfiring in a 2002 Ford Taurus?

A miss on one cylinder is caused by defective spark plug, plug wire, burnt valve, or blown head gasket. Replace all plugs and plug wires. If the miss is still there run a compression test.

Why does your car shake and turn off only when you come to a complete stop?

Check the air idle control (AIC) valve...It can be cleaned with a throttle body cleaner. Maybe the fuel filter. The shaking could be a motor mount.

AnswerAlso bad fuel. Buy gas at a good station not the cheapest station. Put some fuel conditioner in the tank. AnswerTorque converter (part of the transmission).. its a common problem. Get it checked out.. AnswerIve worked with a mechanic that did this once. The car he drove would stall at complete stops sometimes. scan the computer for trouble codes. Check the MAF(Mass Air Flow) sensor. It is located on the throttle body, usually right after the air filter. Most of the time it is flat shaped and just screws into the throttle body. Unplug the electrical connector from it. Unscrew the sensor, clean the inside of the sensor with rubbing alcohol, get any dirt you see out. be careful no to break the little metal pieces inside. screw it back in place and reconnect the electric connector and give it a test drive. If that doesnt work, replace the sensor.

It could even be a "throttle position sensor" I've had a couple of them go on me in the past , they would Scream! the RPM gauge up to 3000 to 4000 and only feel like driving 30 mph is about the fastest I could go, but when I came to a Stop the engine would Die out, had start it up again it would Scream! like a transmission was working too hard! , it would shake and everything later I hooked up my "CODE SCANNER" showed the "Throttle position sensor" was bad I replaced it for $100 at advance auto part store, that was a "throttle position sensor" for a Jeep Cherokee 1998 , they are all priced different for different car makes and models to price might be different for your car, also if you plan on doing alot of "home mechanical" repairs you should Invest in to an "obd2 code-scanners" they are well worth their money you'll be glad you go one, there are cheap ones "flash scanners" and there are "on screen code scanners" that what i have they cost anywhere from $100-$300

How do you remove a starter on a 1999 Kia Sportage?

Here is the method listed in Mitchell's On Demand Manual. I used it myself and it works great. It should be noted that some of the nuts on this starter are in "blind" locations and you will need extensions and "universal joint" adapters to get your socket on them and turn them. It was very difficult but easier going back on. Also note that after the unit is removed it is like working a puzzle to get it positioned to come down through the small area available for removing it. The Vehicle will need to be on ramps or a lift for this proceedure as most of the work is done from beneath. Removal & Installation 1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove two upper bolts from intake manifold bracket. Raise and support vehicle. Raise and support vehicle. On M/T, remove clutch slave cylinder from side of clutch housing and push it aside. 2. On all models remove lower intake manifold bracket bolts and bracket. Remove two upper starter bolts and a lower bolt. Pull starter from clutch (M/T)or converter (A/T) housing and prop in place. From above, disconnect starter solenoid "S" and "B" terminal connectors. From below, push transmission harness aside and remove starter. 3. To install, reverse removal proceedure. Rotate starter to provide proper clearance. Torque all nuts and bolts to specifications.* * I was unable to remotely position a torque wrench on or even near these fasteners so I "guestimated" it by feel. Hey! It works!

Why does car shake when applying brakes even though front and rear brakes rotors and drums were replaced shakes when pulling emergency brake as well bearings and tires are good?

Good question. You may have an antilock brake circuit that is not sensing the brakes correctly and improperly correcting. Anti lock pulses the brakes when you apply them. I don't know if this is perfected or not.

Steering wheel is loose while driving?

If the steering wheel is loose while driving the steering rack may be going bad. A bad steering rack leads to a lot of play on the actual wheel.

What does a MAP Sensor for a 2000 dodge look like?

The sensor will be round and about the size of a silver dollar. The sensor can be found beneath the passenger side dashboard.

Can play be adjusted out of steering rack?

you most likely have worn tie rod ends or inner tie rod bushings that need replacing.

Why do your tires vibrate really hard when braking?

Your rotors are warped. Replace the brake pads and have the rotors resurfaced or replaced. Make sure the wheel lug nuts are torqued to specs when the tires/wheels are reinstalled. Over tightening the lug nuts will warp the rotors.

ANOTHER ANSWERThe above is absolutely correct, however, heat is perhaps the most common cause of warped rotors. If your vehicle has to stop when there are heavy loads, or if you "ride the brakes" (one foot on the brake pedal while you're driving), or if you have a worn caliper that's constantly putting a little pressure on one of the rotors, there can be a lot of heat generated which will result in a warped rotor.
On the other hand, if you've had the brakes replaced, and the PREVIOUS mechanic used a cheap replacement rotor, that may be the cause. Cheap rotors warp easily.

Why does the car vibrate at 70 mph?

Tires and/or wheels need to be balanced?

Bent wheel?

Rear wheel drive? Drive shaft may need to be balanced

Why is your car shaking when driving at 100?

You have a mechanical defect such as a worn wheel bearing or your wheels are not correctly balanced.

Ford focus 00 after changing gear car shudders or shakes and is slow to build up speed?

Time for a complete tune up.

Yes, and a "tuneup" consists of changing spark plugs and wires. PLEASE, do NOT stick a feeler gauge in the plugs, it will destroy the platinum coating and they will be worthless, and your car will STILL run the way it is. Install them OUT-OF-THE-BOX, no adlustments!!!!

If this does not work, put it in the shop and have the speed sensors and the shifting solenoids on the transmission checked. if either or both are giving a wrong signal to the computer it may be shifting into the wrong gear.

Unhook the battery ground for about an hour. This will reset the computer back to factory settings. Sometimes this will work.

What does a bad inner tie rod sound like?

A bad inner tie rod knocks when a car makes a turn. Tie rods that become worn over time lose their stiffness and this makes turning very unstable.

Why would your car not shake at 120 mph but start to shake very badly at 130 to 140 mph?

The symptom would indicate a wheel/tire/balance problem. You need to have a professional inspect if you are driving at those speeds. also make sure if you drive at 120+ mph, you have "Z" rated tires for safety.

Which vacuum hoses should you check on my 2001 Chevy Malibu because it is hesitating at 50 mph?

I'd check the hose going to the 50 mph transmission lock up modulator first as it sounds like the likely culprit.

What would cause your car to make a twisting metal sound shake and smoke by the belt?

The belt is dragging over something. Most commonly the tensier pulley bearing is bad. Remove the belt, then check the pulleys on every single place the belts touches. One of them is either frozen and not turning, or is loose and floppy.

Does the engine usually vibrate and cause the whole car to vibrate when idling in a 1998 Ford Escort?

it doesn't. it's because of miss-fire. change the ignition plugs and some of the wiring. A very common cause if the engine is vibrating is a leak in a vaccuum hose or a disconnected vaccuum hose. A higher rpms this is not as noticable. you can listen for a small air suction noise or if you want to rule this out simply disconnect a vaccuum line and see if you have a noticable change. also you might check the elbow that connects the vaccuum lines as they sometimes get holes or dissintegrate.

Besides bent rims and or bad tires what else can cause serious car shaking when braking?

If it only occurs during braking, then you have a rotor or drum issue. Most times it is a warped or scarred surface on the rotor or drum. You may be able to get it resurfaced for a fraction of the cost of replacement.
