Car Smells

An indication of overheating of some sort. Could be caused by a number of things. Clutch slipping, whether from normal wear and tear or from driver riding the clutch. Also, could be caused by the transmission being tasked beyond it's limits, like towing or carrying a load heavier than the vehicle is rated for.

If you have air fresheners it might help. But if the smell is coming from the seats you might need to replace the fabric on the seats. It just depends on where the smell is coming from. Also worth trying are Febreeze spray on the carpets and fabric (it may require repeated applications) and/or Bounce dryer sheets under the seats. Depending on where and what the smell is, shampooing the carpets and upholstery may be effective. Try to keep the interior of the car as dry as possible, musty smells could be mold or mildew which love moisture. Repair any leaks that can be found (trunks are horrible for getting wet and breeding molds and mildew, check yours if you have one).

I had the same problem on my 2001 EX, usually when it was cold out, I would smell raw gas fumes. there is a spring clamp on the fuel pressure regulator intake, simply replace it with a flat spiral type clamp you can get at any hardware store or Home depot for 39 cents. when it's cold the spring type doesn't seal properly between the rubber hose and the metal pipe. when it warms up, it seals. just change the clamp.

Also might be the back door is not closing full enough to seal against the rubber edge , and the vaccum sucks up the fumes inside!.

Sounds like a rad... I rescently heard a really loud pop, and my car ALWAYS smokes, because of oil lekaing in the engine bay. Tempertaure changes wouldn't occur from bearings, or cams. So it must be the cooling system. Check your oil, rad fluid, if either has any foreign fluds in it (you'll see the mixture of the fluids on the dipstick).

Sounds more like your air conditioner compressor packed it in.

This means that you have a gas leak somewhere in the engine compartment. The smell comes from the AC air inlet pumping in fresh air from the engine compartment, which is where the leak is. Check your injector o-rings for deterioration. Also check your fuel pressure regulator and lines.

When the heater core leaks antifreeze into the heater unit it will smell sickly sweet. you may have or had a leak. --- I work with body shops a lot, and a customer had this exact problem. It turned out a baby duck had crawled up inside the wheel well and died in a small crevice that lead into the vehicle and was not easily accessed. When they got into the vehicle they could smell it, it was sickly sweet (I smelled it myself) and reminded me of rotting fruit as well. When they turned the vehicle on and the air conditioner cooled the vehicle the smell would go away. The smell got worse the further into summer they got as the heat outside was worsening the decomposition. You may want to have a shop take a good look around the vehicle to rule this out!

Acoustic supercharging relates to intake reverberations. Rather the amount of times the intake charge bounces back and fourth from the time the valve closes to its re-opening. If all variables with the motor are correctly matched I.E. intake manifold runner length and diameter, reverberation chamber size, intake pipe length, throttle body size, volumetric efficiency of the motor itself bore stroke ect. Ect. The motor will actually experience a small supercharging effect about .3-.5 bar or 1 pound of boost.

your heater core is leaking anitfreeze! heatercoreleaks antifreeze into the heater & ac vents causing a burnt spell & oily film on the front window.

Replace the catalytic converter.

For what car you ask for? If it is in japanese car. Toyota Mostly check the purge valve. For Nissan, check the the vent control valve( which i am pretty sure it is) because my car has the same problem. The serve Engine light should be on if your car spit out gas. But there are other problem could cause this too. Line broken and so on. Take it to dealer they will change the part for you. But for nissan sentra i am sure it is the vent control valve. take it out and spit some WD　４０　in there. leave it for a while put it on go clean the code

The starter is burning.

Change your cabin air filter first. If it persists, there are chemicals available to clean the evaporator core area of the A/C system through auto parts stores.

Also, you can spray a mildew-killing deodorizer ( Lysol makes a "Soft Powder" scent that's not too unpleasant) into the fresh air intake while car & A/C are running. A/C should be on "fresh air" setting. Spray until scent is noticable inside car. My intakes are just ahead of windshield, on passenger side. Open hood & you'll see them. Drive as usual w/ A/C on, maybe windows down for a few miles. Repeat as needed.

Well if I had one with that problem I would look closer cause it is leaking on the exhaust somewhere.

The chemical smell used in propane is ethyl mercaptan. Cut an apple in half and leave it under the seat of the car for a couple of days. Don't forget about it or you may have 2 bad smells. The apple absorbs the odor.

See if you can rent a device called an "ozone generator". It will generally destroy all odors, but you do need to stay out of the home while the machine is running.

because it's common for the metal gas line to rupture from rot IN FRONT OF THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE, where the gas line bends. In the center of this bend you'll most likely find the leaking gas. It may leak only when the car is running and shortly after. Replace the metal fuel line with rubber fuel line from fuel pump to gas tank and fuel filter while you're at it.

A "smell" is added to propane the same as a "smell" is added to natural gas. Some people describe it as being like old cabbage. I can attest that it is not pleasant and unless you have very poor sense of smell you will notice it. Don't ignore it if you do. Propane is heavier than air and will lie in a low area and is very combustible.

Most vehicles still take 4-5 quarts of oil. By chance you over-fill you will know by driving the vehicle with a lot of tail pipe white smoke. Drain the excess oil of at least two quarts and allow your vehicle if driving to illeviate the excess or overflow that run onto the engine areas to burn/heat itself away until no smoke from tail pipes exists. You may try or allow the vehicle to sit for a good while after draining the excess oil which will help in alleviating the smoke and the smell. Keep in mind you will smell the oil burning as the engine gets hotter while driving. The oil will eventually burn itself away.
