Car Smells

Volkswagens are kinda smelly anyway, but if there is a hole in the heater boxes or in the heater ducts leading to the cab, that can significantly increase the exhaust fumes in the cab. Also, if there's an exhaust leak through a rusty muffler, that's a loud, smelly problem.

If you have a motor other than the car such as a lawn mower in the trunk it smells. Also if you just got gas it smells.

broken oil seal? i had something simialr with my new Ford Fusion, turned out to be oil seal. I had some fumes coming in through the air wents inside as well , though.

I have a Could 1997 Daewoo Leganza, every now and then the car goes into high revs each time I start it up, what I do is unhook the battery over night and this works, seems to reset some sort of sensor.

This will depend on the age of the vehicle. Older carburetor fueled vehicles have needle adjustments to control the fuel air mix. Newer vehicles are computer controlled, and may need the computer codes checked for an issue.

you could have a small hole in your exhaust between your engine and your muffler....you can patch the exhaust or replace your exhaust

Seeing as how this is a new car (2008), this question is best handled at the dealer, since your car is covered under warranty. The Toyota agency needs to fix this, asap.

Have you changed the cabin air filter yet? It is located behind the glove compartment. If it gets clogged and damp it will stink. We changed one on a 2002 Lexus truck a few monthes back and not only was it clogged, but there were three dead mice stuck to it! I couldn't tell if they were blind however.

Without knowing what engine you are talking about, I can't say for sure but I'm going to guess that on your engine the timing belt has to be removed in order to access the water pump. whoever did the work probably put the timing belt on wrong.

An old furnace that has a gas-like smell emitting from it likely needs to be replaced. More importantly, it is necessary to call your local Gas company to check for a gas leak.

You have a problem. Something isn't moving too good and the belts are overheating.

For the fuel gauge(needle): Faulty fuel tank sending unit or circuit; Faulty gauge or electrical system short; Incorrectly functioning voltage regulator or related circuits. For the fuel smell: Leaking fuel filter or fuel filter connections; Loose or poorly connected fuel pump or fuel line connections; Plugged, dirty or poorly connected fuel injector(s); Punctured or damaged fuel tank.

Be sure there isn't a fuel leak that you may be mistaken for it coming out the exhaust pipe. Is it there when the car is off? IF it is still there, It may burning exceptionally rich (which I doubt), or there may be a misfire and the fuel in a couple cylinders are not burning at all.

I have that problem too. The smell comes from mildew growing on the sides of the drain pipe above the waterline in the trap. It's rather dirty in there below the drain plug, and you never really clean it. When you turn on the water, it disturbs the mildew and releases bad smells. The water trap in the u-turn under the sink keeps sewer smells out but this is before that. The solution is to grab a bottle of bathroom mildew remover and spray it heavily around the drain plug to saturate all sides of the drain pipe. Try this once every few months to keep your bathroom smelling fresh. Don't forget the shower and bathtub drains aswell, and kitchen disposal too if you have a problem there.

I really don't understand what you are asking. Anti-freeze is leaking because you have a leak. But you already know that. If you are smelling coolant at the exhaust, then STOP driving this vehicle. You have a blown head gasket or a cracked head, or both. Serious engine damage will occur if you continue to drive it. Anti-Freeze smells sweet.

I would suspect you have a fuel leak at the fuel tank. Can be a fuel line leaking or the fuel pump gasket may be defective.

Could be many things. Can't say exactly what. But, here are a few things I would check. Do you have trees in the area you park your car? If so, you could have leaves pine needle or other dibree in you heater vent that could have caught fire from your heater motor. I actually had this happen once, it filled my pickup cab with wood smoke. It smelled like that every time I used the heater until I sold the truck. You heater core could have a leak and the antifreeze smell could be coming through your vents. Or your heater motor itself could be going bad and melting the winding on the motor armiture. I'm sure there could be other things like electrical shorts, lost cigar behind the ashtray. Hope that gives some help.

If it is leaking it is always bad, and you will most of the time have a sweet smell. There is sometimes a film on your windshield.
