try to switch the car on until red lights comes on "do not start the engine" apply break twice " fully push the break with your foot " then switch the key off and remove the key from the switch .. this should help .. i hope

There are pages and pages of things that can cause a check engine light. You need to have it checked with a scantool. Then the code can be diagnosed and repaired.

The 1997 Chevy 1500 pickup truck 5.7 liter engine knock sensor can be found on the front of the engine. You will need to remove the front engine cover in order to access the sensor.

Trouble code P0742 means:Torque converter clutch circuit stuck on

unhook a battery cable for about 3 minutes and re-hook.

It means that something occurred or failed that is emission related witch if not fixed it may cause unwanted emissions into the air and it cause make you get worse gas mileage. The computer has stored a code to identify the problem, you can go to Auto Zone or Advance Auto Parts or similar parts store where they will hook up a code reader to your car & tell what code/device failed. Most auto parts stores do this for free. Then you can purchase the part & change it yourself. If you are not mechanically inclined then any auto shop will be able to take care of it for you, I would suggest getting the code read for free & buying the part yourself, then taking it to a shop for install. It would save you some money.

If you change the part yourself, disconnect the battery when you start and keep it disconnected for a minimum of 20 minutes, this will refresh the computer and allow the code to reset.

The computer monitors nearly 100 or more sensors at a time. Your check engine light will illuminate when one of these sensors reads "out of tolerance". This could be benign, or it could be the start of a serious problem. You could pay a mechanic to read the stored computer code for you ($50-90 on average), or you could buy a OBD-II code reader from a parts store ($100 on average) and read it yourself. You can also look up codes on the internet for free. For a 17 year old Mustang, could be anything from a bad O2 sensor to a developing knock.

Diagnostic Code 12 on a 1995 Grand Cherokee just means that your battery has been dead or disconnected within the last 50 ignition cycles.

If everything seems to be working fine, then it is just a reminder to change the timing belt which is critical. The light is programmed to come on at certain mileage intervals usually around 80,000 then again somewhere between 150,000 and 160,000. The point being that you take it to the factory and have it checked out for any possible emissions or ignition type issues. But if your vehicle's mileage is not close to either one of these milestones then I would suggest you take it to the dealer or another reputable shops because you have issues. The only real way to have the code cleared is to take it to a mechanic with a code reader. I've heard that you can sometimes reset that code by disconnecting the battery cables for a minute then reconnecting, the idea is that it "resets" everything back to factory settings. I personally haven't found it to work but it's worth a shot.

That's the "Check Engine Light" or CEL. If you take your car to Advance Auto, Pep Boys, Auto Zone, or just about any other parts store they will take an OBD scanner out to your car and read the codes for free. They can even reset the light, but it will most likely come back on in a day or two unless you fix the underlying problem.

knock sensor is a very sensitive small microphone usually on the engine block or sum times on the cylinder head , it listens for any pre detonation going on in your engine . pre detonation is nasty early combustion you dont want, if you get pre det it causes a pre knock sound which the knock sensor microphone detects.

your probly not getting pre detonation but thats what the sensor does 8)

"sensor 1 circuit" means the ecu has detected it cannot make connection to the sensor, the sensor could be dead or you could have a wiring issue to the sensor IE chaffed wire, bad connection at the plug ect.

The ECU has detected a problem with the emissions system. Have the ECU scanned with an OBD2 scan tool to retrieve the code that has been set. This code will tell you where to start looking for the problem.

The light that shows an engine symbol is your check engine light . If the light stays on while the engine is running, the OBD II system has detected a possible problem with your emission system. If the light flashes on and off, an engine "miss" has been detected . Have your Explorer scanned for any trouble codes to find and then repair the problem.

I recently took thebuzzer box out of my 93 Continental cause it was annoying me with my "Check DCL" light. The box is located just under the steering columb. If you remove the piece of carpeting that is right above your gas and brake pedals. You will see a box off to the right hand side that will have 3 holes in it and a wiring harness with several wires comming out of it. You can disconnect this and that will take care of the buzzer for your "Check Engine" and any other warning lights that come on. It will also disable the buzzer that goes off when you leave your lights on and when your door is ajar. If you do this just make sure to keep a close eye on when you have any warning lights come on.

Usually a problem in the emission control system or fuel cap not installed properly. Have vehicle scanned to determine the problem

Something or someone triggered it's sensor.

could be the oxygen sensor. that's what it was on mine.

Engine coolant Temperature ( ECT ) sensor does not meet minimum thermostat regulating temperature. Need to replace ECT sensor. Make sure engine is COLD before changing. The sensor is on the right head back beside the last spark plug.
