this could be anything to do with the cylinder on your car. The plug, the wire, the cap, or the coil (whichever you have.) your best bet is to do a tune up on thecar and do all the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor. if you have a coil pack, try to change those. this is all i can say for now. if that doesn't work, ask the question again and give a little more detail on how the car is acting.

Technically speaking, cylinders do not "misfire": the spark plug causes a spark which causes the fuel to ignite which moves the cylinder, so it is the spark plug that may misfire. Given that, motor vehicle spark plugs may misfire due to any of a number of reasons, including watered-down or low-grade fuel, old and/or dirty oil, fouled spark plugs, clogged cylinders, insufficient oxygen to the plugs, poorly aligned cylinders, et al.

No that has to be fixed first it's an auto fail and you can't just reset it. you have to have 100 miles on it without it coming back on then take it in for it to pass.

If the check engine light is blinking with the engine running , a spark plug misfire has been detected - get it scanned for trouble codes in order to diagnose and then repair the problem as soon as possible . If you don't , and continue driving with the check engine light blinking , you risk damaging your catalytic converter

yes if the gas cap wasn't on properly then the change in pressure would set off a sensor.

put the cap on right or replace it and if the check engine goes away after a few days that was your problem

Trouble code P0302 means:Cylinder 2 misfire detected

Sounds as if the starter bendix is staying engaged in the fly wheel. Possible wrong starter or starter needs shimmed down out of the fly wheel .

It is probably the coil pack. To find out for sure remove the coil pack from number three and switch it with the coil pack from number four. Run the engine for awhile until the light comes back. If the new code shows that the problem has moved  to number three, you know that coil pack is bad. Otherwise it is probably the wire or wire connector going to the coil pack or possibly a bad spark plug. Good luck

Use a code scanner to find out why the light is on.

In many cases the fuel cap is at fault, or a cracked vapor/vacuum hose.

You can go to your local auto store (auto zone, advanced auto parts) and they can read the code and reset it for you.

There are pages and pages and items that can cause a check engine light. You need to have it checked for codes with a scan tool. After repair light can be shut off with scan tool.

You have to find out what is causing random misfires in the engine.

It's important that you run a computer diagnostic test to see what the computer is reporting. When the check engine light comes on it's telling you that the computer has "stored a problem code" meaning that you're supposed to check into what's going on. In general, the computer will know quite a bit about what's wrong, but it can't tell the difference between out of fuel, a blocked filter or a failed fuel pump. On the other hand, it could be a throttle position sensor or an ICM and the computer WOULD know what's wrong or at least point you in the right direction.

I am not a professional with a professional opinion. However, I do know how a fuel pump works. No possible way for ignition. At least, no worse than having fuel in there while driving down the free way.

I work in Aviation. Hot-fueling is a common practice. (Fueling with props or heli-blades still rotating.)

They recently banned it at my airport but only because the blades or props are the danger. Someone could walk into them, drive into them, or throw something into them. In my opinion, there is no danger here. Any other thoughts?

what year is your saturn? I am having the same problem with a SL2 yr 2000 and I have had three mechanics look at it and they are baffled. Saturn says to use the factory plugs and wires, but those are so cheap I cant imagine this is the problem. I have had the coils replace, intake manifold, no vacum leaks, EGR valvue done and the list goes on. you need to have a scanner that is capable of producing the data stream to evaluate what is happening when the mis-fire occurs. There are many possiblilites of the source. I would address maintenence items if your going to start guessing and replacing. Such as spark plugs, ignition wires, air induction cleaning, fuel injection cleaning. Pay attention to the condition of the plugs that are currently in there, they may tell you a story about where the problem may lie. These saturns are very common for coolant temperature sensors that are an input to the ecm and make air/fuel adjustments. Many times they crack. pukenstein@aol.com
