When the engine is not firing on all cyclinders or has bad spark or lean or rich fuel it will cause the light to flash. Mine did this and I had a loss of power. I replaced the spark plugs and wires. It stopped the light and I got my power back as well as got more mpg.

First you have to locate ECM which is on the driver side just below the steering wheel and just right of gas pedal. You will be able to see ECM after removing a plastic cover. After that you will see a nut in that ECM, which needs to be turned clockwise and then anticlockwise. This is to be repeated three to four times with a span of 15-20 seconds. Next time you will start your car the annoying "Check Engine Light" should go away.

It's on for a reason. It means that there is a malfunction in one of the engine control devices. Take the car to a shop and have them extract the codes, or if you want, go and get a repair manual for your car, and do the diagnostics yourself.

To figure out the codes (flashes) when you do that, it will begin by flashing once, wait a second, then flash twice (code 12) that's the beginning of the test. There will be a few second delay between the code numbers. The last one will be code 55 (meaning end of test). Several places have the meaning of the codes but an occassional check engine light is most likely the oxygen sensor. Its rather common. Usually code 21.

You don't start replacing things when an SES light comes on. GM OBD code readers are inexpensive and will save you time and money. It is also possible to jumper two of the connector pins together to read the code. Only then will you know what is truly malfunctioning.

i have a 96 neon and yes it is on that model, you have to go on/off on/off on in under 5 seconds, don't try to start it though, it will flash the check engine light- three flashes, a short pause, and five flashes means code35, then a longer pause and then the next number, when it gives you code55 that means its done. it will not show you all known codes for the car though, you can get it done at autozone though free. to get the meanings of the codes i suggest a haynes auto manual for your car (at autozone bout 15 dollars) easy to understand lots of pictures its how i knew to do the test on mine good luck crazymat That does work on a lot of Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge products.

The readings from the speed sensors in the transmission indicated that the ratio provided in first gear was not correct. This can happen do to an improper sensor reading (failed sensor), the transmission slipping (low fluid/internal failure), or from the transmission being in a different gear then what was selected (either a linkage or internal hydraulic problem).

The headlights are on a separate circuit. Check the fuses and if that's not the problem check the headlight switch. You may need to get into the vehicle and trace back the wire that provides power to the faulty circuit.

Remember to not replace parts until you've found a real problem and you've been able to verify the problem through testing the part.

That could also be caused by a fuel vapor leak from the tank or the emission lines going to the engine.

Stop. Treat the blinking red light as a stop sign.

Short answer: Try driving your car for 60 miles to see if the light turns off. Sometimes the car ecu just needs some time to reset itself. If it doesn't shut off, then bring your vehicle to a auto parts store to borrow their OBD-II reader. The reader will give you error code(s) which you can investigate.

have u had the check engine light checked for the code? if not take it to auto-zone parts house and they check it free. also check for a vacuum leak

The powertrain computer has to be scan to get the codes. The you fix the problem and with the scanner you clear the codes.

If you disconnect the negative battery post it will turn off the check engine light and also reset the powertrain memory. But that might only solve the problem for a short period of time, and it might not work at all if the problem is present.
