Check Engine Light

It may be an oxygen sensor issue. I had a 2002 Mustang GT with similar set up and had the same problem. The manufacturer of your high flow exhaust system should make a new sensor that takes the place of the stock one that sends a false signal to the emissions control and gets rid of the "check engine" light. There can be several reasons for the light to come on. It can be because the O2 sensor has been eliminated with the U-bend delete or it can sometimes be related to the CAI modification. I think you take off the + batt.cable for about 15 seconds then reconect. Should be reset... Rick D

Something is going wrong in the emission control system. Most of your friendly auto parts stores have diagnostic code readers. They usually check your car with their readers for free. My local Advance Auto Parts Store and Auto Zone store checked mine when my light came on and told me what was going wrong.

chances are its either worn brakes or possibly a wheel speed sensor...good luck!!

Below the speedometer there are 2 reset buttons. The one that sticks out resets the odometer. The other one is under a little rubber plug. (If the plug isn't lost) Pry out the plug and push in the reset button. The button can be pushed through the plug, but sometimes the plug ends up inside the cluster. I just take out the plug and throw it away.

Well if the engine light is on, it usually means there is a DTC (diagnostic trouble code). You need to have it checked out and find out what the problem isthat threw thecode and how to fix it, or it will just pop up again and again. But if you just want it to go away temporarily, all you need to do is disconnect the battery completely (positive and negative cables) and wait about 3 minutes for the computer to discharge and reset. NOTE:that after doing this, the engine is going to run a little rougher than your used to as it has been completely reset (as if it was brand new) and has to relearn itself all over again. With an OBD2 scan tool. If you do not correct whatever the problem is that caused the light to come on, it will just come back on again. Pull the codes from the computer, match the code to the troubleshooting procedure, follow the procedure to find the source. Repair the source, light will go out if that was the only problem. There are "monitors" or self tests the computer runs the car through a drive cycle, if a problem occurs, it may not run all of the self tests until that problem is taken care. Therefore, another problem may exist. It is emission related. OR hook up a scanner that is capable of clearing codes, and hope that none are still active. The " check engine light" is by far one of the most misunderstood technological advances by the public. I am sure I will revise this as time goes on, as it is an in-depth understanding for the public. It is a warning light that is illuminated when there is a problem with the EMISSION SYSTEM only. Emission system being the pollution control system. Don't get a hard on against it as it is a good thing once you understand it. One point that was brought up a a recent meeting of technicians was that the amount of hydrocarbons is greater when the gas cap is left off than when the engine is running. Hydrocarbons are part of pollution emitted as gasoline evaporates. Going a step farther, one facet of the emission system is the "Evaporative" portion. This is when the fumes from the gasoline are leaking from the system into the outside air. This is one part of the emission system that can trigger a check engine light. I would say that about 7% of the vehicles that have a check engine light are the result of a loose or inadequate gas cap. But understand that many scenarios are possible with the "check engine light" The vehicle's powertrain computer (note that some vehicles have 17 different computers) will run a series of self-tests. They will only run under certain criteria. And they can be vastly different from manufacturer to manufacturer. Some self-tests are not run until preceding ones have run successfully. So if there is a problem in one particular area that is preventing another self test from running, you can have a situation where one problem is fixed, but another still exists. If you fix a problem and drive the car through a drive cycle that sets the monitor (or self test) the light will go off as it passes that criteria that triggered it in the first place. some of these newer vehicles are very sensitive in the way they are made and can let you know that they need to be checked as your vehicle has done, they are also programmed to let you know when a sensor is getting ready to go bad on you. Unfortunately the warning lights don't tell you which one is going bad, but these chrysler, plymouth, dodge vehicle do have a system on them that will blink a code to you. it means an electrical wire has alerted the engine that something is either broken, or not attached etc. Go to an Advanced auto parts and they will check it for free. it takes 5 minutes. Has happened to me once or twice. I have an '02 Liberty Sport. My wife did not tighten the gas cap all the way. Tightened it up and it went away once the tank pressurized. Not saying that is the only reason, but IS a problem and a solution. The check engine light will illuminate for the reasons stated in the first paragraph. So if the gas cap is tight, probably something else. If it is the gas cap, or you suspect it is, it might take a minute for it to go off.

There are pages and pages of things that can cause a check engine light. You need to have it checked with a scantool. Then the code can be diagnosed and repaired.

Unless you, or someone else, went through the trouble of converting a '92 Integra to a Type-R. The TYPE-R were not even manufactured stateside until the last half of 1997 at the earliest.
