How do you replace the fuel pump in 1996 Plymouth Voyager mini van?

easy job, but tedious.

1-empty gas tank 2-loosen bolts on the brackets that hold up the tank (use a jack with a flat piece of wood on top to set the tank on and lower with the jack) 3-the pump is inside the tank disconnect the old and replace with the new.

reverse process

any chilton's guide will give you a more detailed process. But this is basically all you need to do.

Inside door handle will not open door?

I have a 2008 expedition with the same problem. i took the outer door panel and found that the cable that pulls the lock mechanism in the door had come loose. My cable "bracket" was actually broken and that's why the door would not open. I am researching what part I need to replace now, but early indications look like the entire window regulator needs to be replaced since the cable appears to mount to the regulator along with the handle assembly. I am calling ford parts today to verify this...

How do you remove the battery from a 93 astro mine wont budge?

There is a bolt holding about a 3" piece of plastic which keeps the battery in place on the backside of the battery, right in the center. Use a long extension and socket.

How do you replace the alternator on a 1997 Chevy Astro?

you have two bolts holding the alternator in the front.Unplug the wire harness and the undo the positive battery lead. Before you do this you must disconnect the positive battery cable.

To access the alternator from under the hood:

1. Detatch neg battery lead. (keeps the fan from operating!)

2. Unplug the 2 sensors from the air intake manifold.

3. Remove air intake manifold & short hose leading from it

4. Undo fasteners for fan shroud & remove it, being careful when working it free of the radiator hoses. A socket wrench with extension, knuckle, and 10mm socket will do the trick.

5. Now the alternator is (somewhat) accessible. Loosen the belt tensioner and undo the alternator bolts as in the above answer.

What do you do when brakes lock in place?

I think you need your brake calipers checked and maybe changed they might be seizing up Overtime the front caliper pistons do pick up road dirt and corrosion. Eventually they will not retract properly. With the wheels and calipers removed you can very gently press the break pedal forcing out the pistons. Inspect and clean but if badly pitted they will need replacing. If the back breaks are seized on maybe due to standing with the parking break on for a long time you can often free them by taking off the wheels and hitting the break drums. Use a heavy hammer and hit them on the left and right hand sides repeatedly until you can turn the drum. It makes sense once free to remove the drums and check out the shoes and adjusters.

How do you install a distributor in a 1996 Chevrolet Tahoe 5.7?

Assuming that there is no ignition issues with this vehicle and its not a 1st time install, you must make sure you mark theBODY and ROTOR position of theDistributor prior to removal. This vehicle has NO WAY of setting Timing with a Timing Light. You must use a Scanner to set it up.

Remove all necessary parts to gain access to the top of the rotor. CLEAN all surfaces that the Distributor Cap sits on and locate the #8 for a V-8 or #6 for a V-6 application this is where abouts the ROTOR must point during installation and should be close to it when you are removing it. Mark the position of the Electrical Connector in respect to the Firewall. Makes it easy to locate position of installation. Remove hold down bolt, Ibelieve its a 13mm. Use a 1/4 " drive flex head socket with a locking extension if you have it, to ease the removal and not loose the tools in the process. Not a lot of room in the back of the engine for tools and parts. Once you remove the Hold Down Bolt, look at the rotation of the rotor as you are removing it , it should becounter-clockwise. This will allow you to install the distributor with less fuss knowing that you need to install it slightly counter-clockwise for it to fall into place.

**NOTE: Upon removal you might need to realign the OIL PUMP SHAFT in the motor to align up with the Distributor Shaft. Use a LARGE Flat Heat Screw Driver, this will prevent you from dropping it and lets you have a large surface contact area on the shaft. *** Now install the new Rotor on the distributor and line up the marks. Once you have installed the distributor, you will want to snug the hold down bolt. Do not over tighten it so that you are able to move the distributor back and forth for setting the Timing Advance. Here is where you need to play attention. Have someone in the vehicle to start the vehicle, you will need the Scanner plugged in and watch the IGNITION ADVANCE P.I.D or the reference # it gives once you start the vehicle. Zero ( 0 ) degrees +/- 2 degrees is normal at 1500/1800 RPM. You must have your person in the vehicle rev the engine to 1500-1800 RPM while you are setting this. Get the degrees as close to ( 0 ) as you can and lock the distributor down. Make sure you don't have any Misfire Issues by power breaking the vehicle or putting it under load which might be evident if you are off on your timing settings.

Good Luck

Answer

On the back of the carb is an idle stop solinoid that shuts off the air flow through the idle passage way. I have found that the passage way can be blocked with dirt. Remove the solinoid and spray carb cleaner in the solinoid hole then blow out with compresed air. Be sure that the rubber O ring for the solinoid comes out with the solinoid and is not stuck in the hole first. Also check that there is 12volts going to the solinoid when the key is on the run position. This is somtimes fed through the alt. fuse.

Answer

Loose Hot Wire to control box for electronic controlled Carburator.

Ok all of these answers have probably been wrong. I just had the same prob with my truck and i have found it was a vacuum leak. If you can hear a vac leak than its probably your prob. If not then dont waist your time. Anyways on the side of the carb there as a hose that travels to the top of the truck. It connects on the left side of the carburetor kinda towards the bottom. My truck was doing the same thing and it turned out to be a split hose. I did not hear the leak until after a couple of days of driving it but as soon as i found it then it immediately ran 100% better. Try this and see. If so let me know. junk that factory carb. and get awebber 32/36 carb.

What causes a 1983 VW Rabbit GTI not to start at times?

check the fuse box..specifically the ignition relay or the fuel pump circuit...ideally, when you go to start the car, and you think it won't start, disconnect a plug wire and check for spark, in other words, does it have spark(ignition power) when it isn't starting...also make sure the fuses are in all the way.... could also be the fuel pump...if it only "no-starts" when its hot, it most likely is the ignition coil... make sure you check the basics, and you can get copies of shop manual diagnostic information at the library...good luck...:)

What causes black exhaust smoke from from 1996 Chevy Astro Van?

If your astro van is puttin out black smoke that means it is burning oil somewhere, It will be from either worn piston rings (called a "blowby") or from a cracked cylinder head gasket you might try pulling the spark plugs one at a time, you will notice a sutty biuldup on the plug from the fouled piston. on an astro van of any year either of these conditions will get costly unless you are making the repairs yourself then they will just be time consuming and frustrating as hell but astros are good vans so it will be well worth the effort unless you just dont want to be bothered. It will be a worthwhile investment for you to get yourself a haynes manual from your local parts store it will give you a step by step with photos

1999 Chevy astro van driver side window goes down slow then stops before all the way down. Have to wait a little bit to go back up little at a time?

Answer 1 - "Sticky" Window OperationAlthough I'm not familiar with your vehicle, what you describe is usually caused by the window glass "binding" in the channels [guides/tracks] inside the door.

Window channel binding is caused by misalignment of one or more of the guide channels. Channel/guide track misalignment is usually caused by one or both of two things:

  • One or more of the fasteners for the channels have vibrated loose, allowing the channel to shift position, or
  • One or more of the fasteners, or the door panel to which the fasteners connect has broken due to vibration caused metal fatigue.

The solution to this problem it to find and identify the failure, properly realign the channel(s)/guide, and properly and securely fasten the connection.

If the door inner panel metal has actually cracked or broken then I always "splice" in a metal reinforcement over the separation point. I use "Pop" rivets to secure the reinforcement.
