How do you change the starter on a 1999 Pontiac Bonneville?
Okay.. First things first.. Chock rear wheels, because this repair will have to be done from underneath the car. Lift via jack on passenger side until front passenger tire is approx. 5 inches off ground. This will allow you to be able to use both hands which you will need. Remove battery terminals. Have handy a 5/8" socket, with 1/4" ratchet, and short extension (2.5 inches-3 inches). These are needed to remove the starter from the mounting, but you will need a couple of other sizes to remove the cables from the starter (1/2 inch for the battery cable, and 5/16 for the other) The extension will be needed for the rearmost bolt, but the front bolt will provide you the most trouble, because there is just barely enough room to fit the socket above the body crossarm. Once these two bolts are loosened, the weight of the starter will drop the starter practically into your hands. Remove bolts holding the wires from the starter, and replace with new starter. The wires should only go on one way, so tighten to the previous tightness. Slip starter above crossarm and wiggle into place. I highly recommend starting with the rearmost bolt (much easier) to line up the starter and hold it's weight, instead of trying to put the front in (which is much shorter than the back bolt). Once the starter is in place and tight, and all tools are clear, reconnect battery and start car before dropping your jack. The reason i recommend this is, if there is whining in the starter it may need to be shimmed, and will keep you from having to re-lift your car. If there is no whining, your job is complete. Drop jack, and unchock tires. Hold on one second !!! There is a lot more to removing the starter from a 1999 Bonneville SE with a V6, 3.8L than you described !!! For starters, the two plastic flywheel covers have to be removed, but only after removing the steel bracket/brace forward of the starter and all its hidden bolts which can't be removed without first removing the transmission line clip so you can access the bracket bolts. The rear starter mounting bolt is covered by the rear plastic flywheel cover and is NOT accessible UNTIL everything else it removed. It is a lot of greasy, dirty work with lots and lots of parts that have to be replaced AFTER the starter is replaced. Figure no less than 4-5 hours minimum and every metric and SAE socket imaginable over 8mm in size, plus every ratchet adaptor, U joint and extension you own. One hint: You WILL need a Torx-55 male wrench to remove the final, upper starter mounting bolt, a 3/4 end wrench and a "finger wheel" because there is no clearance for a ratchet wrench and darn little for an end wrench! Personally, the GM Engineer(s) who designed the placement of the starter for a 1999 Bonneville SE with a V6, 3.8L engine should be strung up by their privates with unwaxed dental floss and left to hang. Mind you, that's only based on having just replaced one of these starters .... Good luck
How do you change the starter on a e46 BMW?
NOTE. these starters are difficult to do, first thing is disconnect the neg. battery cable, next, open the hood and near the engine firewall you want to remove the complete micro air filter assembly, and the filter holder itself from the firewall, 4 t30 bolts bolt it to the fire wall, next, remove the plastic cover on firewall that covers up the ac blower assembly, 2 t30 torx bolts , twist and pull the cover off, now you should be able to look down the back of the engine and see the starter. the starter is located under the intake manifold, there are two e12 inverted torx bolts that bolt the starter to the bell housing. both bolts go in same direction. get a e12 long wrench and you should be able to sneak the wrench down behind the engine and remove the top starter bolt, this is a very tight fit and make sure you take your time. next raise the vehicle up and go underneith the vehicle, which ever works best for you and trans type (auto, man) you might need a long extension but remove the lower e12 torx under the car. remove the 2 small wires on starter, and two large cables on starter. (make note on how cables are ran before you remove them), (4 wires in total), starter may be seized into bell housing by a dowel pin. just get a very long 3/8 ixtension and place it against the solenoid or any other hard part on the starter and hit the extension with a hammer until the starter breaks free from bell housing (transmission). remove the starter from under the car. replace starter, and secure cables first, then start both bolts, once both bolts are started, snug them both up equally and tighten up, reassembly vehicle, and start car. good luck. adam.

How do you change the starter on your 1994 Isuzu trooper?
---------------- for people with tools and who don't have $400 for labor----:
I am working on a 1993 Isuzu Trooper with the V6 engine.
Notes:
Other web posts suggest the Isuzu starter is the same as a common General Motors light truck starter. (The transmission is GM based).
The battery power arriving at the starter solenoid is always hot. You must disconnect the battery ground before working on the starter.
Other web posts describe three approaches to getting clearance to remove the starter from the engine. The problem is this starter is hard to reach.
One approach is to remove 4 14mm motor mount bolts and raise the engine 1" using a floor jack and a wood block. See automotiveforums dot com. Users report this turns the starter job into a "2 hour job". Really now?
Another approach is to remove the bolt-on frame crossmember under the car. This crossmember is removed when doing trans filter replacement. See answers.com "How do you replace the starter in a 2000 Trooper."
The third approach is disconnect parts of the exhaust system. The problem is exhaust system studs, nuts, gaskets and bolts have to be replaced if you mess with them.
So far, my son and I have jacked up the Isuzu, removed the front wheel, tried to reach the starter through the wheel well, and we have found and turned the 2 13mm flex socket size attachment bolts. The battery is still connected and I can't reach the electrical connections to attach test leads. Getting the starter unwired and out of it's pocket is the big problem.
My starter extraction work plan is: jack engine first, remove crossmember second if needed. I really don't like to touch those old crusty exhaust system bolts.

What is diagnostic code P0171 mean for a 2004 Chevy Colorado?
System Too Lean (Bank 1) Basically this means that an oxygen sensor in bank 1 detected a lean condition (too much oxygen in the exhaust). You will more than likely not notice any drivability problems, although there may be symptoms such as a lack of power, detonation (spark knock), and/or a hesitation/surge on acceleration. A code P0171 may mean that one or more of the following has happened: The MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor is dirty or faulty. Note: The use of "oiled" air filters may cause the MAF to become dirty if the filter is over-oiled. There is also an issue with some vehicles where the MAF sensors leak the silicone potting material used to protect the circuitry. There could be a vacuum leak downstream of the MAF sensor. In the vast majority of cases, simply cleaning the MAF sensor does the trick. Consult your service manual for it's location if you need help. I find it's best to take it off and spray it with electronics cleaner or brake cleaner. Make sure you are careful not to damage the MAF sensor, and make sure it's dry before reinstalling Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses, replace if necessary Check for a dirty fuel filter and proper fuel pressure.

AnswerShould have info in owner's manual (available at dealer) some are done through radio others through door lock circuitry
Answer
Take it to a dealer. It cannot be accomplished by the owner using any of the "tricks" associated with programing other remotes. All applicable remotes must be either programed or re-programed together, other wise an active remote will no longer work when a new one is programed. Locksmith with proper programer can also program the remotes. Expect to pay $25-$75 dependent upon location, and customer friendly service.
