How do you bleed the brakes on a 1992 Chevy Lumina?
You should start at the longest and work to the shortest line. (RR to LF). Need assistant. Make sure Master cylinder does not run out of fluid at any time during process Have assistant "pump" brake about 4 times and hold pedal. Attached small clear hose to bleeder screw at wheel (Top of backing plate usually covered with protective rubber cap) submerge end of hose into clean container with brake fluid. Open bleeder screw slowly (careful these have a tendency to snap and wheel cylinder will have to be removed and repaired or replaced) until pedal drops to about 2/3 of its full travel. Have assistant hold pedal. Observe fluid running into container. Tighten bleeder screw. Repeat until no air bubbles are seen. Move to next wheel and repeat.

How do you adjust the parking brake on a 1992 Chevy Lumina after installing new calipers?
I replaced the rear calipers on my 91 lumina and I recall wanting to do this too. I think if you follow the cables and look for a grommet that's about 6 inches long. But I don't recall if that adjusted the length of the "throw" or if it merely adjusted the right vs left rear brake so as they could both work together. Anyway, this grommet is a thing that you spin. It has threads on both ends where the cables go in. As you turn it one way, it shortens on both ends and "shortens" the cable. Turn it the other way and it lengthens the cable. I'm not positive of this. I recall seeing this grommet but don't think I actually turned it. If I recall, I believe I ended up doing nothing because the parking brake pedal is a "pumping" type...meaning you push it to the floor and if it isn't tight enough yet, you release your foot and then push it in again. You continue "pumping" it until it's tight...like a ratcheting effect. Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure you don't adjust the "length" of the cable...you simply pump the pedal to take out any slack. And I'm pretty sure the grommet was an adjustment to make both back brakes hit at the same time.

How do you clear a code 42 on a 91 lumina apv that has a new distributor coil plugs and wires?
You clear code 42 just as you clear any other code. Disconnect the battery cable from the battery for 30 seconds, then reconnect. (It's good practice to disconnect the battery cable whenever disconnecting or changing any electrical components.) Afterwards, check the "check engine light" to see if the code 42 is cleared. This answer applies only to '95 and older models (OBD-1).
The answer below is correct BUT< <<>>> Stop at step #4 and try and start it up.It always works on my 03 Grand Am GT. As for bypassing the Passlock, you need a module that's sold in the USA to do that, costs about $100...Happy trails from Crazyted
HOW CAN I BYPASS SECURITY SYSTEM ON A 2000 GRAND PRIX GT - CAR WILL START FOR 2 SECONDS AND CUT OFF - ALL 3 KEYS (INCLUDING VALET KEY) WILL NOT WORK
Not to add to the questions, but I have had the same problem with my 2003 Pontiac Grand Am GT. This is what I've learned over the last 26 hours. The PassLock security feature in these cars becomes unstable over time. Some of the contributing issues include worn keys (yes your car key being worn out can cause this issue), the wires to your BCM (Body Control Module) located behind the black plastic "kick plate" under your glovebox may be disconnected, frayed, damaged, or corroded (these little black boxes are about $400). Before you head out and start spending cash like you've got it... try these simple steps to make certain that it isn't' a "learning issue" with your car's computer system.
1) Try to start the car and let the key rest in the "ON" position. If the "SECURITY" light is on or blinking, leave it be and continue to next step.
2) Leave the key in the "ON" position for 15 minutes (they recommend 10, but why take a chance of missing it by a few seconds and having to restart the entire process again).
3) Turn the key to the "OFF" position, but leave it in the ignition and wait 5 seconds.
4) Turn the key back to the "ON" position, but don't try to start. Let set for another 15 minutes.
5) Turn the key back to the "OFF" position and wait another 5 seconds.
6) Turn the key back to the "ON" position and wait 15 more minutes. DO NOT TRY TO START YET>
7) Turn the key back to the "OFF" position for yet another 5 seconds.
8) NOW turn the key "ON" and try to start. If the BCM has learned the new value for the resistor in your key, it will fire up without any further issues.
NOW.... If this does NOT work... you've got the same issues that I have. I've received numerous suggestions on what to do from this point. Here is a list of the possible culprits, starting with the easiest and least expensive.
1) Fuses (check them all, both sides of the dash panels and under the hood)
2) You can actually bypass the BCM by pulling out the middle wiring harness and isolating the black and yellow wires. Expose a small portion of each by cutting away the wire insulation and soldering a 2.2k resistor (should be easily found at Radio Shack for under 2 bucks). Solder the ends to each wire and wrap with electrical tape. You've just bypassed the $400 PassLock system and fooled your car into accepting the new value. You'll have to do the same procedure as above for the computer to learn the new value, but it does work on 97% of the vehicles they've tried this on.
3) Replace the BCM, mine is made by Delphi and they are VIN specific, so you'll need to take your vehicle's id number with you to the dealership. They cost about $400 and are easy to replace (3 wiring harnesses snap onto the top and are color coded). This fixes almost all of the issues and doesn't leave that annoying "SECURITY" light on.
Hope this helps and if you have ANY questions, please feel free to contact me at CaptAdams35@hotmail.com with "PONTIAC" in the subject line.
ok you have to check the ohms on the key for reistance ( so 2.2 wont always work and you may need to put a relay in so the resistance goes on and off like you were removeing the key since some computers will think you left the key in the ignition and will keep it from starting or running)

How do you replace the fuel filter located on a 1996 Chevy Lumina?
Find it by tracibng the fuel line from the engine to the tank. It requires special tools available at the parts store.
Bad grounds, Faulty Battery, Almost anything along those lines, Have someone put on a tester, it will find the problem. Auto Zone does it for free. -Mr. Mechanic- Check the fusible link at the starter , use a test light touch the small term with the purple wire . While having someone try to start the car ,light should come on , if not check for blown fusible link.
I have no experience with removing the rearview on a Nissan specificially but on a ford the are some tiny holes you need to push something into in order to push the retaining clip away from the metal button. There are tools for this I found on the net that look like 2 prongs of a fork so I thought what the heck, bent back prong 2 and 4 of a decent length 4 prong metal fork and used that. Worked fine. I imagine if I had a small enough flat tip screw driver to stick in there it would have worked as well. It still takes a bit of force to pull the mirror off the button even with the clip depressed. Atleast it did for me.
Here's another possibility: I just finished wrestling with removing the button from a Nissan Xterra rearview mirror. It has the wedge style button (beveled edges), rather than the channel style. At the bottom of the button I could see a small tab of spring steel. No matter what I did to the tab it wouldn't release the button. Finally, I took an old hack saw blade (you could probably use anything long and flat like that) and slid it in between the tab and the button from the bottom. Once you get in about .75" you'll bump up against the spring tab holding the button in. Push further against the spring with your hack saw blade and at the same time pull the mirror off the button. That's it! Once you get it off you see how simply it was being held on. Hope this saves someone else the time I wasted on this...
Nissan 99 sentra: A thin metal shim jammed in under the button released the clip on the mirror button. I used a shim from a set of feeler gages/spark plug setting shims and jammed it in under the button as far as it would go to release the clip. There is a round depression that the clip is stuck in and the shim pushes it out of the depression. Button slid out easily after that. THANKS TO ORIGINAL POSTER OF THIS ANSWER...SAVED ME TIME AND FROM BREAKING THE DARN MIRROR FRAME/BUTTON HOLDER.
Where is the blower motor located on a 96 lumina and how do you replace it?

How do you replace a tie rod on 91 lumina?
1. Remove front tire after jacking up front end and placing car on jackstand.
2. Using dikes, remove cotter pin holding castellated nut on to tie rod end.
3. Loosen nut until almost all the way off of tie rod end.
4. Back off locking nut which is up against tie rod end sleeve.
5. Using very large, heavy hammer (or "pickle fork" with a hammer), knock very hard on the tie rod end to loosen the tie rod end from the hole in the wheel spindle.
6. Remove nut entirely and pull tie rod end out of hole.
7. Counting the number of turns, carefully unscrew tie rod from the inner tie rod.
8. Replacement is reverse of removal. Accurately counting the number of turns can eliminate the need for a front end alignment after the new tie rod is installed.
How do you replace timing chain on a 3.1 Chevy Lumina engina?
To replace timing chain on a 3.1 Chevy Lumina engine, you need to first make sure that your motor or engine is turned off. Then you need to remove the chain and replace it.
Man vehicles have the dash lights and tail lights wired through the same fuse. Check your fuse box for the dash or tail light fuse. Something has most likely caused it to blow.
