Does plugging a one way HDMI cable in the wrong way damage the cable Example The cord has arrows pointing a direction with the words Signal Flow after them and I plugged the cable in backwards?

You won't damage anything, but I have found some cables to be unidirectional. I thought it was absurd, and completely contrary to how cables work... until someone suggested it with a specific setup between a computer and a projector and sure enough it would work one direction but not the other. I've since discovered other cables that also are unidirectional HDMI cables.

What are the basic principles of a good computer operating system?

All operating systems manage system resources.

Depending on the environment that the Operating System will work in (e.g. will it work in a lab or an office?) the way the user interacts with it is important.

A graphical user interface (GUI) is much better than a Command Line Interface (CLI) for office workers as they are already familiar with it and little training is needed on the work places part.

A CLI is useful for running tests in a lab or processing data where training has already given. A CLI is a no-frill operating system (e.g. no images etc.)

How can you run a file on startup using CMD?

Make a batch file.

Open up notepad, type in the commands just like you would if you had a C:\prompt and choose "save as." When you save it, remove the .txt extension & use .bat instead.

Batch files can be executed just like an .exe, any commands in the batch file are put to a command prompt & executed. So just put the batch file (or a shortcut to it) in programs/startup in your start menu & youre done!

Does the USA use a different DVD disc format from the UK?

The discs themselves are not "formatted" any differently, but the vidoes are encrypted so that they will only play on players from their own region. The US and Canada are known as Region 1, while most of Europe is known as Region 2. Region-encoded discs cannot be played in players from other regions without either a modchip or an unlock code. Also, televisions in the UK use the PAL method for displaying images on TV, while US televisions use NTSC. This is not related directly to the disc, but rather the output methods of the player.

What are the functions of computer hardware on networking?

Sata drives can a optical drive be master when its a ide?

An IDE Drive is not the same as a SATA drive, for starters.

If you want your optical drive to be the master on an IDE channel you can jumper it to make it such. The second drive on the IDE channel must then be jumpered as a slave. If the optical drive is the only drive on the channel then it ought to be jumpered as the master.

Alternatively, you may be able to set both drives to "Cable Select" and let the cable position determine the priority. This presumes that your ribbon cable is of a newer design and supports this option.

BIOS is the program that manages the data between the operating system and all the input and output devices attached to the system, hence its name. BIOS is also responsible for loading the OS from its permanent location on the hard drive into RAM. 2. BIOS conducts a power-on self-test (POST) to check that all attached devices are in place and in working order. 3. BIOS loads the operating system from the hard drive to RAM. 4. The registry is checked for futher configurations and customizations. How many different patterns could be stored in a 8 bit register. What is the largest value that could be stored?

A simple mathematical formula to calculate the maximum address space of a register is 2^N, where N is the bitrate.

2^8 = 256. So 0-255, and 255 is the largest value.

A 16-bit register (2^16) is 65536, so 0-65535
