What is a neurotransmitter that has been linked to sleep eating mood pain and depression?

Serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, or 5-HT) is the neurotransmitter associated with reducing anxiety, reducing aggression, reducing appetite, increasing somnolence (sedation and quality of sleep), and reducing depression.

A deficiency of this neurotransmitter, or receptor mutations leading to decreased binding affinity of one's own neurotransmitter levels can lead to any of inverse symptoms listed above (depression, anxiety, aggression, increased hunger or overeating, sleep disorders, etc.).

What can you say if you see your friend crying?

Nothing. Just be with him/her. You don't need to console her/him. You are with him/her, that is enough. You just need to be with her/him and never let her/him feel lonely. Tell him/her that you are with him/her and that you won't leave him/her alone. Believe me, he/she will feel better.

Do the drawings of Carl Jungs Red Book reveal that he was a schizophrenic and manic depressive?

The drawings in Carl Jung's Red Book reflect his exploration of his inner world through art. Jung himself did not consider himself to be schizophrenic or manic depressive, but rather saw his visions and experiences as part of his psychological journey. It is important to interpret his work within the context of his own beliefs and experiences, rather than applying modern psychiatric labels.

Why is depression called the common cold of mental illness?

Its so easy to develop and nearly everyone will experience it at one point, rather like a cold. It is also hard to shake and will affect you whether you like it or not, but the main reason is because of how common it really is but no one really notices.

What does it mean if you feel like crying every time you look in the mirror?

Feeling like crying every time you look in the mirror may be a sign of low self-esteem, body image issues, or underlying emotional distress. It could also indicate unresolved emotions or past experiences that are affecting your self-perception. Seeking support from a therapist or counselor can help you explore these feelings and develop healthier coping mechanisms.

Why does everyone think people who self-harm or try to commit suicide just want attention?

Generally? Because people come to your aid when you're experiencing that degree of mental distress. And honestly, some people do make empty threats for attention. Not that I condone it. I think that making people feel unimportant for wanting to kill themselves only perpetuates that feeling of self-hatred.

How many out of how many teens make suicide attempts?

In 2005, there were 4,212 "youth" suicides. Youth applying to those aged 15 to 24, and the suicide rate of that age group was 10.

My source of information appears to only give the rate of successful suicides.

Only one in four suicide attempts is made by males, but one in five successful suicides is by females.

See the link beow for more information.

Which direction do emo people cut their wrists?

It's important to address self-harm with empathy and understanding. Self-inflicted injuries are not specific to one group of people, and the act of cutting is a serious concern that should be treated with care and support. If you or someone you know is struggling with self-harm, please seek help from a mental health professional or a support hotline.

How can you tell your parents that you want to see someone about your depression?

If your parents do not already know about your depression tell them that you have been feeling sad lately and that you think it would be best for you if you saw a professional. If they are like my parents, and do not want to spend money on a psychiatrist, there are some emergency, and free professionals.

If your parents already know about your depression, tell them the same thing. They should be able to understand.

Good luck. I hope this helped.

How can medication help people with mental illness?

Medication can help people with depression by adding endorphins to their brain to cause them not to be so sad. People with mood swings can be put on a mood stabilizer. People with sleeping disorders can get medicine to make them go to sleep. People with ADD and ADHD can take medicine to calm down and help them be more alert and focus.

Medication can really help people with mental illnesses.

Why does teen suicide happen?

probably because they hate life, or are stressed out a bunch from maybe bullies, and their parents, or there are a lot of events that they are tired of. <------------- Some kids feel bad about themselves and think that they are worthless. Some kids think that they have no reason to live. I tried to commit suicide once. I almost made my plan work. No one tried to stop me because I am a foster child and they thought I was stupid and was worth nothing in the world. Even though I had a good life on the outside, I hated it on the inside. I may have looked happy and silly on the crust, but I felt so crushed and serious on the inside. I learned that I had a lot of things going for me and I really did have people that cared about me. So what I'm trying to say is that the biggest problem is that kids become suicidal because they start to believe that no one wants or loves them. They feel worthless and start to hate the innocent little kid they are inside. They tend to feel regret of who they can trust and who actually cares and loves them, inside and out.

What are two internal influences that may affect how a person feels about herself and how are they described?

Younger than her age and beautiful than othhers.

Self-conciousness: How aware the woman is about how she looks, how others view her, and how she feels about herself. Violent or negative impulses, thoughts that come to mind but are not acted upon, can lead a person to think that they are naturally bad. On the bright side, she may find that certain aspects of her face or personality stand out above others. It could be that she has dazzling eyes, or a cute nose, or a very loving and outgoing personality.

Self-esteem: Goes hand and hand with self-conciousness. A girl may think she is ugly compared to other girls or that she is weird because of habits or how shes speaks or simply because she, as an individual, stands out within any and all groups. The idea that one sees oneself as ugly is partially due to the fact that we see each ourselves in the mirror every day and feel the need to critique it. The daily sight of ourselves and the fact that we cant escape how we look brings us to find ourselves dull or boring, hence the idea that we are ugly. The fact that we all strive to be a better us brings us to try to find every little mistake with our complexion or looks.

Past Experiences: If a woman has done something in the past or experienced something that negatively influenced her, she may put the blame on herself, which then lowers her self-esteem and leads her to look down upon herself. If, on the upside, the woman did something positive like saved a life, or succesfully babysat a child, etc, how she feels about herself will change. She will either feel useless or accomplished.

Your entire question circles around self-esteem. Anything that changes or affects what you think of yourself will affect self-esteem since, essentially, that is what self-esteem really is.

What is a misomaniac person?

Please talk to a counselor about your problems, nothing is bad enough to be worth taking your own life.

If you are at the point where you really feel it's better to die than to go on living, then you have hit bottom, and once you hit bottom, there's really no place else to go but up. So what have you got to lose by staying for the ride back up? You have far, far more to gain by going up, and absolutely nothing to lose by taking that trip back up, to the place where your life can be happy and fulfilling.

If your life is at a place where suicide seems better than going on, think about some very important things. Life can turn from horrible to wonderful in a very short period of time. Your life, whether you know it today or not, has a positive impact on someone. It might be your family, your friends, your co-workers, your neighbors... there is someone that knows you in a way that you can't see.

Suicide is permanent... there's no turning back. The deep feelings you have today will be different tomorrow; regardless of how down you feel, you'll have something tomorrow that can, if you let it, make you feel better. Our problems are often so great, so real and feel so devastating that leaving life behind seems like the only answer. But it's not an answer. It leaves many, many questions for anyone we leave.

Please sleep. Please cry hard, if you must, and talk to someone who loves you. But please, also, put the idea of making a permanent end to what could be temporary problems out of your head. Every life has purpose. Every single life. Please try to find yours before thinking about killing yourself.

No matter how bad it is right now, it can only get better- when you are down try doing something nice for someone else. It sounds a little lame but it works, scientifically it's called a helper's high. It gets your mind off depressing things and helps you add value to society and confidence for yourself.

Suicide is illegal in many countries (WikiAnswers cannot facilitate the commission of any crime) and besides we care about you and want you to live.

How do you become happy again?

Don't think about sad things, like sad songs, movies, tv shows, books, or moments that happened in your life. Think about happy things that make you feel good inside. Being happy is something everyone wants because sadness is like a dagger covered with pain that stabs you. You feel it and are hurt by it.....terribly.

Therefore, do things that keep you happy. Watch funny movies or tv shows, or read a book that makes you laugh, listen to music that cracks you up, hang out with your friends and be goofy all day. Do anything that you know will make you happy for sure. : )

Is it possible to be just sick mentally?

Absolutely. Many hypochondriacs feel like they are sick, but physically nothing is wrong with them.

It is also possible to be sick mentally in other ways, such as being depressed or under extreme stress, or things that are more serious.

It is always good to see a doctor if you feel sick, mentally or physically.

What is the reason to emo kids cut themselves?

  • When a regular person starts to hang around different groups and is exposed to different things at the adolescent age, groups like "emos" tend to develop. This many result in bad influences. They may begin to hang around other "emos," in search of ways to solve their problems. Most "emos" do not concieve in isolation the idea to cut themselves to relieve pain, it is passed on through the cult. Experimenting with different ways to cure their emotional instability, adolescents begin to try new things, whoch may ultimately result in cutting. The final results of this action are mixed, both from the feeling that now, they are, in a way, in control over their own pain, another is that they are punnishing themselves, giving themselves up to suffering because they see themselves unfit to live without it. Probably one of the most important ones, if you ask an "emo" person WHY they cut, they will usually be at a loss for words except the vague statement that it makes them feel better. This is usually because when they cut, their body releases lots of complex hormones and chemical enzymes, giving them a sensation of feeling good, though the consequential pain certainly does not. This combination of the body's functions and the psychological need to punish themselves physically, "emos" are able to cope with their insecurities on their own.
  • I have dated three emo guys and each one of them cuts themselves on a daily bases. They said they do it to get rid of all emotional pain in their life. Also, one of the guys told me that he also cuts himself because it lets him know that he is alive.
  • I am an Emo. You don't need to cut yourself to be emo or vice-versa. Some people tend to stereotype the whole group just because they know some emos who cut themselves, To put it simply, not all emos are cutters.
  • I am an emo. I do not cut myself. Not all emos cut themselves. Some do it because they think it makes them look cool. Others do it because they are lonely and sad.
  • I used to cut myself. I no longer do that. Nowadays, I understand that the pain from cutting my arm only distracted me from the pain in my heart. So, for me, that was the point of cutting myself.... to distract from a pain that hurt more that the cutting.
  • I too am an emo. Some emos do it for attention...others do it because we have real problems and no one to talk to. The word emo stands for emotional problems. The word emo is abbreviation of emotional.
  • I am emo so I will add my opinion: Not all emos cut themselves. In addition, many people who cut themselves are not emo. Some people who cut themselves then wear short sleeves, and practically wave their arms to get attention or help. Other people who cut themselves hide it from others. Mostly, people do it to make them feel better. It can be part of an inferiority complex. Some self-harmers do not like themselves. Some people cut themselves because they feel that they are not as good as everyone else is. Other people cut themselves because they are different from people and feel the odd one out in society. They might hate themselves for being different. Whatever the type of person (emo or not emo), people cut themselves to feel better. I don't care about what people say, but I can tell you straight that it helps.
  • To put it simply: Cutting yourself causes your body to release endorphins. These hormones are designed to dull pain, and consequently make you feel good, in an ironic sort of way.
  • Depressed people cut themselves (only some people, sometimes) because when you cut yourself it releases hormones that make you feel better. If people are cutting themselves just so they can say they are emo, they are most likely doing it for different reasons (to fit into a certain group of people, etc....).

What should you do if a friend says he or she wants to kill him- or herself?

Immediately tell someone you can trust: a teacher, school counselor or even a policeman. You are not ratting out your friend, and you could easily save their life. This comes from someone whose granddaughter committed suicide last week. No one helped her, because no one knew.
