Your assumption is right there will always be some power directed to the front wheels,I would keep it in high not high lock that way the front wheels wont be locked in and working all the time, just when there is a loss of traction. Not one of Dodge's best innovations. Ive even known people to remove the front drive shaft so that they can get at least some decent gas mileage when its not mud season.

First get the wheel off, second pull the brake drum off. If you can not get the drum off you have to lossen the breaks. There is a slot in the back of the vacuum plate on the bottom. Stick a flat screw driver in and turn adjuster counter clock wise this will lossen the break shoes. the drum should pull off. Then remove the springs; just remember which was they go back on. You can set the whole vechile on jack stand's and use the other side as a reference.

i believe that the power wagon from this show was a 1979 1979 There were at least two trucks used in production of Simon & Simon. One is a 1979-1980 model. The two model years were identical, and it was used in early seasons. The second had a 1981 cab and fenders and is identifiable by the "L" shaped roll bar supports, where the '79-'80 model had slanted supports. this was a factory "Macho" power Wagon. It also the horizontal line in the body starting at the door, and extending to the front of the truck, a body design change incoporated into the 1981 and newer trucks. This truck had an older ('80 - ) bed, and was used in later seasons. You can also notice the wheel cutouts in the front fenders are different than the '79-'80 model. There was less of a rounded contour around the cutouts.

taking the window out is easy. you push the inner lip of rubber over the opening towards the outside keep pushing out on the glass and popping the rubber through all the way around the wondow opening. get someone to help with the outside holding it still while you push and unlock the rubber lip. installation is a little tricky you need enough string to go all the way around the rubber in side of the seam. no thicker than 1/4". lube the string with non pumice hand cleaner. make sure that the strings cross a few feet on the bottom. set the rubber where it sitting in the groove on the lower part of the window. have your assitant push against the glass while you pull the string out. keep tapping the window as you do this. pulling the string out pops the rubber seal to where it is supposed to be. don't be a ninny. just pulling the string will not work if you do not pay attention and try to work the rubber into postition. good luck.

If its a 2 wd, The starter can come out the bottom, fairly easily, If it is a 4wd, You will have to: Remove the front skid plate, Drop the front steering linkage ( remove the nuts, Put a pickle fork in and smack till they pop free ) This will allow you the required room to pull the starter out from the front of the engine area. Once you've got the starter in a decent spot, Dissconnect the wireing to it. Pull it out ( after many curses and skinned knuckles.) OR you can Drop the whole 4wd assembaly ( 8 + hours ) OR remove the passanger front tire, Dissconnect all the brakelines to make room, And try to weezel it out between the body and frame.
