How do you change oil filter 2009 ford escape I4 engine?
You need a 3/16ths hex bit to loosen the oil plug in the bottom of the filter. When you remove this, oil will start flowing out of the filter, so have something to catch it. Then, use a oil filter wrench to turn the black rubber surround until it comes off. More gross oil. When it's out, you can take off the cylindrical paper filter inside and replace it. This is known as a cartridge type, so make sure to ask for it when you go to the parts store.
How do you change the serpentine belt on a 1999 Honda Passport?
Just went rounds looking for this info. Found the answer going to my favorite parts store and looking for "what tool" to change the belt. Turns out the auto-tensioner has a bolt in the center of the pulley. Use either a wrench or (preferably) borrow the proper tool which is just a wrench on a nice leverage bar. When you put pressure the tensioner pulley arm will swing and give you room to remove and replace the belt. Just don't be afraid of loosening the pulley (that was my fear) and don't try a hex wrench on the engine mount side of the tensioner arm. (laugh now) Have a nice day.
System air bound and need to be bled?
Hoses collapsing under pressure?
Radiator plugged or restricted?
Defective radiator cap?
My 2004 Optima has similar problem - I have replaced water pump - radiator hoses - thermostat - radiator cap - fans are working - system is not airbound - did radiator flush. Even purchased an IR thermometer and it is reading that the temperature is not actually getting hotter even though the temp gauge goes from normal to pegging red hot.
Dealer wants to replace the radiator, but as best as I can tell this is an electrical issue. It happens especially if the AC is on. Also - if engine is turned off and back on immediately (less than 10 seconds) it falls from Red HOT to normal. I refuse to go back to a dealer that can't explain/find the problem on their own car.
I've found cleaning your ground wire / negative battery terminal can help. For a more permanent fix I suggest replacing the temp sensor and not buying another KIA.
I have same problem. When a/c compressor is engaged temp gauge climbs,as compressor disengages, temp gauge lowers. It is NOT the radiator! Thermometer put into rad. neck says temp is at 185 at all times. Both fans and all 5 relays tested per factory repair manual, all ok. New thermostat and new temp sensor, new rad cap too.Problem still there! HELP!!
I have the same problem with a 2004 KIA. Took it to the dealer several times and they could not fix it. They even changed the dash panel and screwed up the odometer. KIA's service depts are the worst I have experienced. The last time I took the car in they tried to charge me even though still under warranty. Other mechanics have looked into this problem and have not found the cause. Although the car does not actually overheat the gauge pegs out in the red. Avoid the mistake I made and don't buy a KIA!
How do you remove rear window wiper blade on 2009 Ford Escape?

How do you replace a coil pack?
were about on the engine is the coil pack for a renuault 1.4 16 vaule
My daughter has a 2001 dodge neon. Her windshield washer does not work either. Washer fluid reservoir was full, pump worked fine. I found a broken plastic "Y" divider (to the left and right side of the windshield) on the hose from the pump to be snapped off. It is located under the fibreglass material on the underside of the hood, it clips onto the underside of the hood, The pump was in fact pumping but the fluid was going on the ground behind the motor. I'm still trying to find that plastic part. I'm not saying this is definitely your problem, but it's something you can look for!!
The best I can do is to guess, so bear with me.
When your AC is on, it places quite a burden on the engine.
You can probably hear the RPM's drop when you turn the
AC on. In a car with a big V8 engine, this is no big deal. The
amount of power "stolen" by the AC compressor, compared
with the total power available, is negligible. BUT, in our little
4 bangers, that ratio changes considerably.
When you're stopped with the AC on, the car just doesn't
idle quite as fast as it does with the AC off. I don't really know
if there is something that's supposed to compensate for this or
not, but I don't think so.
But on to your pushing problem. I would guess that at idle with the
car in gear and the AC running, your idle is not consistent. It may
be fluctuating and when the RPM's come up, you have more power
to the car and it wants to move. When the RPM's drop, this tendency
stops. I'm wondering if your engine is surging. Is this something you've
encountered with the AC off and the car in park? The engine speed rising
and falling? If so, I'd look for a vacuum leak under the hood. Have a look
at all the hoses and make sure they're in good condition and connected
tightly.
If this doesn't help, it may be time for a tuneup. If it's been a while since you
replaced plugs, plug wires and the fuel filter, I'd start there and see what
happens. It couldn't hurt to run a container of injector cleaner through the
gas tank either.

What fuse controls the seatbelt alarm on a 2005 Ford Escape?
Instaed of messing with the fuse, you can temporarily or permanently disable the seat belt alarm. Below is s copied instruction from a website on how to do it. Just remember all is at your own risk. You can Deactivate the Belt Minder two ways. First, you can deactivate it temporarily for your current "run cycle", that is after you have started your car and it's still running. Second, you completely deactivate the Belt Minder so that it never reminds you again, or at least until your reactivate it... The first method, temporary deactivation, or one time disable: After you have started your vehicle, buckle and then un-buckle your safety belt. Be sure to buckle back up.... This will disable the Belt Minder only for that ignition cycle. The second method, permanent deactivation: There are 9 steps you need to follow to deactivate or activate your Belt Minder system. Before doing so, make sure that: The parking brake is set. The truck/car is in Park (automatic), Neutral (manual). The ignition is OFF. All doors are closed. The driver's safety belt is un-buckled. The parking and headlights are OFF. Then follow these 9 steps: Turn the ignition switch to ON, but DO NOT START. Wait for the safety belt warning light to go OFF(1-2 minutes). Steps 3-5 MUST be completed within 60 seconds! Buckle, then un-buckle the driver's safety belt 3 times, ending with the belt un-buckled. Turn on the headlights, turn off the headlights. Buckle, then un-buckle the driver's safety belt 3 times, ending with the belt un-buckled. After step 5, the Safety Belt Warning Light will be turned on for 3 seconds. Within 7 seconds of the safety belt warning light turning OFF, buckle then un-buckle the safety belt. This will disable the Belt Minder if it is currently enabled, or enable the Belt Minder if it is currently disabled. Confirmation of the disabling of the Belt Minder is provided by flashing the safety belt warning light 4 times per seconds for 3 seconds. Confirmation of the enabling of the Belt Minder is provided by flashing the safety belt warning light 4 times per seconds for 3 seconds, followed by 3 seconds with the safety belt light off, then followed by flashing the safety belt light 4 times per second for 3 seconds again. After confirmation, the deactivation/activation of the Belt Minder procedure is complete
How do you change the spark plugs on a 2001 Ford Escape XLT V6?
Need to remove upper intake manifold to reach valve cover close to firewall. 1) The location of spark plugs 456 are under the plastic shield in front of the engine. It takes an 8mm socket to remove the three bolts holding the shield once the shield is removed you will see a coil for each spark plug. Use the 8mm socket and remove the coil and rubber boots. You will now see the spark plug (note there are not any spark plug wires). 2) The location of spark plugs 123 are located to the rear of the eng. You have to remove the air intake manifold in order to get to the spark plus. Remove the throttle wire then remove the other items on top of the intake manifold. 3) Loosen all the bolts holding the manfold. 8mm socket-- I think three in front and three in the middle. Remove the EGR valve mounts so you can slide the manifold out. Disconnet all vacuum lines from manifold and the air filter inlet closet to manifold. Just take a general look and ensure you have all wiring and tubing disconnected then slide the manifold off the eng and EGR valve. NOW MAKE SURE you cover all intake holes (leading into the engine) with paper towels to prevent droping screws etc into the engine. Then follow step 1 above ------------------------- I found this web site to be an excellent reference for your question. I could not have done the work without it! http://www.ford-trucks.com/article/article.php?id=281 Best of luck!
Where on a 2005 Ford Escape is cylinder number 4?
It can be found next to the exhaust tube by the engine.
How do you tighten belt on ford escape 4 cylinder?
You cant. the belt is on a spring loaded pulley that keeps the right tension. If it is loose then you will have o change the pulley out with a new one.
could be one of a few things. clogged air filter, clogged fuel filter, dragging brakes ,slipping clutchand maybe just a good service will fix the problem
Fuel injectors can get gummed up cause a poor spray pattern resulting in reduced mileage. Try using a can of chemtool in a half tank of gas every 5000 miles. This works as good as the fuel injector service that most shops charge upwards of $60 for.
If you drive with a lead foot your ecu will adjust the parameters for performance at the expense of mileage. You can reset the computer by disconnecting and reconnecting the battery (while the ignition is off!) or removing and replacing the ecu fuse. This will reset the engine to use the default fuel/air/timing maps. It will then adjust them based on your driving habits. Note: the engine may seem to run rough when you first do this as it is "learning" the optimum program based on your driving style. To maximize the program avoid jack rabbit starts and stomping on the accelerator.
Other things to check are if you are using the proper oil type and viscosity. Modern engines are machined to tighter tolerances to use low viscosity oils for better gas mileage. Using synthetic oils and gear lubes can increase mileage by 1 mph or more.
If you are using an oil saturated filter i.e. K&N or others make sure that the the iat sensor is not gummed up from excessive oil.Use only cleaner listed as safe for MAP Iat sensors and follow intructions on the can They are delicate!!! Last but not least make sure that your tire pressure is correct. Hope this helps. BTw these tips are applicable to most late model gas vehicles
How do you install brake pads on a 1990 Chevy Lumina?
Brake pads are fairly simple to replace. In my experiece's,I've always used a 4 inch C-clamp to keep the brake piston from pushing out due to the brake system's pressure. It's only on 1 side of a caliber and is what the caliber uses to squeeze against the rotor and stop the car. When you take the caliber off it's bracket and remove it from around the rotor to replace the pads, you'll never get it back on without pushing the brake cylinder back. This is due to the extra "meat" on the pad. Un-bolt the caliber and take the old pads off and you'll see the side where the piston is.It's about the size of a silver dollar. It's that side you'll need to screw the C-clamp on after the new pads have been put on.Screw the clamp against the brake pad where the piston is behind until you're able to slide the caliber back onto the rotor.Take the clamp off as soon as it slides on and bolt the caliber back on.Very simple.
also on the rear calipers you will need to spin the piston to get it to decompress. i did this with a big pair of vice grips and a C clamp. tighten up C clamp and spin piston clockwise with vice grips, repeat until the piston is in far enough to put brake pads back on and fit on rotor.
NOTE: When using the C-clamp on a caliper to push the piston back in, do not have the NEW pad on the piston. Leave the old one on (or put it back on) and use the OLD one to push the piston back. Don't chip up the surface on new one!
What is erg valve on 2001 ford escape?
EGR valves control the amount of oxygen that enters the combustion process in an engine. If there is too much oxygen and the fuel level is reduced to an economical level, the combustion temperatures become so high that pistons and exhaust valves burn and/or melt, and exhaust manifolds will literally glow red. By carefully controlling the amount of oxygen in the mixture, engineers have discovered a way to reduce the fuel consumption while maintaining an acceptable power level. EGR is an acronym for "Exhaust Gas Recycling", which means that a controlled percentage of combustion gas is allowed back into the engine to lower the percentage of oxygen. A faulty EGR valve can cause too much of the exhaust gas into the engine or worse, not enough. If it's not enough, your engine can literally burn itself to the point that it is useless. It's important to keep your EGR valve operating properly. Placement of the EGR valve is different on the different engine configurations. You'll need to take a look at the replacment EGR valve and look around for yours, or even ask the sales clerk.
In California Can I tint my rear tail lights so they are a bit darker?
I also live in California & was looking into tinting my rear tail lights to black on my 2008 scion xB. This is what I found....
If you look up the vehicle code of California, it states that "(e) Taillamps shall be red in color and shall be plainly visible from all distances within 500 feet to the rear except that taillamps on vehicles manufactured after January 1, 1969, shall be plainly visible from all distances within 1,000 feet to the rear. " Go to
http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d12/vc24600.htm
to read the whole tail light vehicle code for California. Needless to say, Im sure that if you tinted them anyway, you will be pulled over & given a fix it ticket by the CHP & then it would cost you more $$ and time to repace the tail lights. Im not going to go through all that, they can just stay red... I have received 2 tickets in California for this -- tinting of the tail lights. One 3 months ago, and one just this week. The first one was referring to the answer you've listed above -- the "red in color, visible 1000 feet". I had the ticket signed off by an officer, without changing the tint on the tail lights. However, the ticket I received this week refers to another vehicle code that states that you MAY NOT alter any vehicle light equipment unless it is D.O.T. approved equipment, which tinted tail lights are not. And, this is NOT a fix-it ticket -- there is a fine and you cannot just remove the lenses and pay a $10 administrative fee. Needless to say, I am not happy. I wish the officer who signed off on the first ticket (who was the watch commander of the office) would have told me the lights were not legal... it would have saved a lot of time, upset and money.
