How do you compress the rear brake calipers on a 2006 ford freestyle?

The rear brake calipers on the Freestyle contain an internal spiral mechanical advance, part of the emergency brake system. The pistons cannot be compressed in the usual way using a C-clamp or piston compression tool. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FORCE THEM! You may damage the internal parts. The pistons must be rotated to retract the spiral mechanism. The driver's side is rotated clockwise and the passenger side is rotated counterclockwise. Look for the arrow near the piston bore on the caliper forging. Rotation is best accomplished with a spanner wrench tool available at good auto parts stores. It is a 3/8" square drive (standard socket ratchet) cube, Lisle Tool Corp. part #28600. Open the bleed port before turning the piston to relieve hydraulic pressure. A length of Ø1/4" ID clear tubing on the bleed barb is useful for directing the fluid into a receptacle. After the piston is fully retracted, make sure the piston spanner grooves are vertically aligned, as the top groove is clearance for a small pin on the brake pad plate. NOTE: If your pads are extremely worn, the spriral may become disengaged internally. In this case, you must apply significant inward force AS YOU TURN THE PISTON to make it re-engage. This is virtually impossible to do without removing the caliper from the car and mounting it in a vise. You will have to bleed the brake lines after reassembly, but it is still less work than fighting a flopping caliper still tethered to the car.

How do you turn off child safety door locks on a 1993 Mercury sable?

Usually you can find the switch on the doors themselves. Open the door and look on the part near the latch. Sometimes, there is a switch by the driver if the car has power locks.

How do you replace wiper refills on a 05 ford freestyle?

I recommend replacing the entire wiper blade assembly (commonly called wiper blades) since you can get them relatively inexpensively, they are easier to find and installation is very easy. You can do the refill inserts, but they are harder to find and much more tedious to install.

  • Step 1 is to be sure you get the right replacement parts. The 2005 Ford Freestyle takes 24" drivers side, 20" passenger side and 13" rear replacement windshield wiper blades. I do not see refill inserts listed in aftermarket parts guides, so I'm assuming those must be bought at the Ford dealership. There are aftermarket refills available for the rear wiper however.
  • Step 2: As far as installation, the replacement wiper blades will come with simple-to-follow, step-by-step, illustrated instructions.

Why would my traction control light on the dash stay on all of the time rather than flashing when I am sliding?

I have the exact same problem on my 2006 Freestyle. I took it to a local independent garage and they could not get a code from the car to tell them what the problem is. I fear I may have to take it to the dealer. I would love to find the answer instead of taking it in. Help!

Ford freestyle turn signal fuse?

The owner's manual fails (miserably) to mention turn signals. However, apparently fuse F8 controls multiple functions, including the turn signals. See below for more details.

"The HEADLAMP SWITCH grounds a signal in the SMART JUNCTION BOX. Within the smart junction box is a PARK LAMP RELAY whose input is hot all times. After the relay is 15A fuse F8. It feeds the side lamps, park/turn lamp license lamps turn signal hazard lamps, reversing lamps. When the lights are on F8 should show 12 VDC. When the lights are left on without the car running the "no dead battery" function turns off power after 30 minutes.

Using a volt meter see if there is power to fuse F8. If not it is probably the Park lamp relay. There is no power going to the headlamp switch, it only grounds some smart part of the SMART JUNCTION BOX."

Why would air suck down the oil cap with a strong vacuum and now a 1990 Taurus 6-cylinder 3.0 engine only runs well if the dip stick is pulled up?

Answer

Replace the crank breather valve, make sure the hose connected to the top of the oil filler neck isn't plugged (goes to the intake of engine)
Inspect the PCV valve and all attached plumbing / hoses. The hose material is handling some really obnoxious materials (vaporized petroleum products) and break-down over time.

Note: the pcv valve is on one valve cover, and there is a corresponding large diameter hose on the other valve cover - breather hose. The two work together to balance the flow of air & vacuum used to recirculate the air & fumes.

How do you run wires from battery through 2005 ford freestyle firewall?

To run wires through the firewall of a 2005 Ford Freestyle, first locate an existing grommet or an appropriate location for drilling. If using a grommet, carefully remove it and feed the wires through, ensuring they are protected from sharp edges. If drilling, select a spot away from critical components, drill a hole, and use a grommet to protect the wires. Finally, secure the wires to prevent movement and ensure proper sealing around the hole to avoid water intrusion.

Where is the rear window washer reservoir on my 06 Ford Freestyle?

On a 2006 Ford Freestyle, the rear window washer reservoir is located in the engine compartment. It is typically found near the driver's side, close to the windshield. The reservoir is usually a translucent plastic container, making it easier to check the fluid level. To access it, you may need to remove the engine cover or other components depending on the specific layout of your vehicle.
