A Geo Metro has up to three drive belts, which should be adjusted as follows: A/C 8-10 mm @ 10 kg (22 lbs) Water Pump and Alternator 5-7 mm @ 10 kg (22 lbs) Power Steering 8-10 mm @ 10 kg (22 lbs) All of these are for newly installed belts. To adjust, you loosen the bolt on the belt adjustor (it it a pulley mounted onto a metal plate which can be adjusted by sliding the adjustor bolt along a track) and move the adjustor out by pushing or prying it away until you can only push on the belt as per the specs. Usually you just push on the belt with your thumb (this is actually what the factory service manual pictures) to check its tension. when it is properly adjusted, tighten the bolt up to 23 N-m (17 foot pounds) so the adjustor won't slip. Used belts have a slightly wider range of adjustment. If you tighten it up and it becomes loose quickly, it's time for a new belt. Never let a old belt break on you and leave you stranded, they cost much less than a tow.

how do you wrap the serpentine belts around on the 1999 geo metro

bad lifters will rattle when engine is running at idle you will hear anything from clicking in engine to rapid tapping,depending on how bad and how many lifters are bad if vehicle has hydraulic lifters check for proper oil level in cngine

take one off at a time, and replace with a new one. then so on.

on top of the engine with a screw in the center and four clips on the outside, it set just behind the engine, on top of the throttle body. Should be black, with a large corrigated hose running to the passenger side of the car.

Many are in the air duct near the blower motor.

Maybe you've got a dirty fuel filter. Have you ever replaced it? The plug setting is pretty important. Set them to .30 to .35 and the stalling will probably stop when hot.

i bought a haynes manual from auto parts store and found wireing diag.'s for sprints to many yrs of geo metros, i dought you cant get it through internet legally since it is copywrited.

you dont adjust the pulley you move the compressor,there are two bolts you loosen then an adjustment bolt you screw it or out to move the compressor retighten all bolts and recheck tension

Your heater core may have gone out. Or you could have build-up in the lines.

sounds like exhaust restriction ... check the vaccum at the base of throttle body. also consider hosing down the throttle intake with carb cleaner whilst running and of course valve timing is critical. spark timing not so much as the pcm will correct small errors I have a 95 metro with the 1.0 and have the same problem. I am a mechanic and have been fighting this since ove a year ago. I have replaced wires, plugs, used GM service manual and checked all the peramiters on the sensors. Fuel pressure is at spec. New fuel filter also. I can get mine started, it will idle, when i depress the accelerator nothing happens. I have used an ECM from another 95 like mine and still the same problem, also have used a different 95 throttle body and the same results. You didn't mention it, but if it does run, when you depress the accelerator does it slowly pick up RPM that is abnormal? This is a problem I am fighting. I have read other questions and saw that almost the same problem with a timing belt jump, so I guess the next step will see if I am at top dead center...I know I have good compression becasue about 6 months before it went down I completely rebuilt the engine....

According to the manuals and parts description, they say these are interference engines. The SOHC versions are not interference while the rarer DOHC versions are interference engines. Since they are not aware of what engine you are working on, they would rather be safe and tell you it is an interference engine.

I would have destroyed at least two of these engines if they were interference. I have changed timing belts and been off a few teeth at first.

According to the side panel sticker on the driver side door, the most weight that a 1999 Chevy Metro can carry (with 4 200lb. passengers and a full tank of gas) is 668 lbs.

I think the person was asking how much does the car weigh. I think it I read somewhere it's about 1700lbs.

The OEM style block heater I have for the 1.0L 3 cylinder mounts on the outside of the engine under the intake manifold. An external block heater.

Yes you can. All Geo Metro engines are compatible from 1989 - 1997. Just make sure that they both have the same transmission or you'll have to do a lengthy and expensive conversion.
