Top Dead Center. A mark on the engines crankshaft to denote the position of number 1 cylinder when its at the absolute top of its stroke. Unless you moved the location of the distributor then the timing should not have changed. Look at the link below. Copy & paste into your browser. It shows you the proper way to connect the plug wires. Also check to make sure you installed the rotor correctly and it is fully seated. There is a notch that the rotor will fall into when it is correct. Make sure the distributor cap is on correctly and locked down. It also has a notch that shows it is on correctly. It may be 180 degrees off. Make sure no wires came off and that the coil wire is installed fully into the distributor cap and the coil. http://autorepair.about.com/library/firing_orders/bl-fo-8631.htm If you did move the distributor location, then you are going to have to get it back close enough to start and then have it timed. To do that remove all the spark plugs and turn the engine over by hand until the #1 plug which is located, drivers side front of engine, is at TDC on the compression stroke. Put your thumb over the #1 plug hole and when you feel it push against your thumb, that is the compression stroke. Place a screwdriver inside the hole against the top of the piston and slowly by hand turn the engine until it is as far up as it will go. This is TDC. Now see if the rotor is pointing to the #1 plug wire location on the distributor cap. If not move the distributor until it is. The engine should start and you will need to take it to a professional and have the timing set. If none of this helps it may be time to call in a pro.
Try removing brake light bulbs and sockets one at a time to try to find out if short is located in fixture itself or in wiring going to fixture--if you can isolate problem it should be easy to fix--either by replacing defective socket/bulb or wiring to same.

I have changed these lines on both my 1997 S10 Blazer & a 2000 S15 Jimmy. Raise vehicle on jackstands. Then place a piece of wood on jack, move jack under oilpan, and jack up the engine 1 - 2 inches. This will give you the clearance you need to be able to pull the oil lines off of the engine block. You won't be able to pull the lines through if you don't do this, because of the fitting on the end of the hoses is too big. A vareity of rachet extensions will enable you to reach the bolts (two) on the engine block (reach from in front of the cross member to the rear). The lines between the remote oil filter & radiator ( cooler) are much easier to get to.

I have installed 20" rims with p295/45r20 Toyo tires with very pleasing results. You didnt say if it is a 4x4 or not. If so your rim selection needs to be at least a +20 offset on an 8 inch wide wheel, so the rims dont stick out past the fenders. If it is a 2x4, you can get away with +15. GL

There are 4 O2 Sensors on the 1997 GMC Jimmy V6 4.3L. All sensors are accessed from bottom. All sensors are mounted on the exhaust. Three of the sensors are on the Bank 1 side of the engine (Passenger side). Sensor 1 Bank 1 is upstream of Y joint on Passenger Side, Sensor 1 Bank 2 is upstream of Y joint on drivers side. Sensor 2 Bank 1 is mounted down stream of Y before Cat Converter on Passenger side. Sensor 3 Bank 1 is downstream of Cat Converter on passenger side.
How do you diagnose bad fuel pump on a 2000 jimmy?
Remove the fuel cap and have someone listen in to the fuel tank while you turn the key to the on position. You should hear the fuel pump run for aprox 2 seconds. If you don't hear the pump run it is probably bad. You can try to replace the fuel pump relay under the hood but that is seldom the problem. If you hear the pump run you will want to do a fuel pressure test. This would require a fuel presure gauge and attachment. The pressure should be 60 to 66 psi.

No difference at all mechanically. Gmc and Chevy used some different trim pieces on the outside. If you are looking for parts the small pickup in each brand will also interchange. I also believe that Oldsmobile put out a version of that same body.

This person wanted help with the vacuum lines, not a flippant reply that showed your bias and lack of knowledge. The security light comes on frequently in my 99 Jimmy. To reset turn the key to the "on" position and leave it there for 15 minutes. After that your Jimmy should restart. Sometimes it takes more than one try.
