What engine does a 89 Honda Civic?
Both the DX and LX trim models have a D15B2 engine. 1.5L single overhead cam. The SI trim has a ZC engine.
Are the transmissions for a d16y7 and a d15b8 the same?
The transmission are different for the d16y7 and d15b8 but they are interchangeable. So if one fails and the other is readily available there will be no problem switch one for the other.
Probably the timing chain began to wear out and finally broke. Happened to another car of mine with similar engine. Its possible the main bearings or the rod bearings gave out and locked it up. You'll have to drop the oil pan and see if they turned. If they did its time for a new engine or atleast a rebuild. Its also possible the timing chain broke and the piston and valves clashed, for that the head has to come off. I have a 98 tracker. My engine started making a clicking sound. My dad has worked on alot of vehicals in his lifetime. He thought it was the timining belt breaking cause the sound was coming from there. I ordered the belt in, and he took the vehical apart to replace, just to find out that the belt was okay. But I got him to replace it. I phoned around including chev and they informed me to take it in and have it checked. I live 4 hours away to the nearest place I can have it checked. I wind up taking a day off so I can take it in, I filled it up with gas and I left. On the way over there my vehical kept on losing power and dipping to 50km/h and so fourth, the engine sounded okay but it kept on doing that. A normal ride that took 4 hours took 5.5 hours with a few minutes stop in between. when it came to going up a hill, it lost power, going up at 20km/h. Well I finally made it there. The service person told me that there was a few possibilities why this would happen and I told them to do whatever they have to do to make it run properly again, they even though it might have been the catalylic converter and they were ready to make a bypass by putting in a straight pipe to the muffler, they assured me it wouldn't damage the vehical. But anyway an hour and half later, they phoned me back and told me my vehical was ready. I came to the garage and they told me that all the problem I was having turned out to be the timing and so I paid for their service and went my way. The vehical was running ok. On the way back, my vehical seemed to have more power than usual and my rpms were normal, I thought that was probably what I was having a problem with. Well after 2.5 hours of driving home, my engined just went dead. I cranked it and it cranked okay. It was minus 30 degrees celcius, I was prepared but I was there for 3 hours and luckily I was prepared by grabbing winter clothing. Well i phoned home and my dad picked me up. I got it towed to the nearest town and I went home. Three days later, the temperature was back up to plus 3 degrees and I thought my vehical had froze because it was too cold. But we towed it back to my town. I checked everything, including the gas filter and pump and distributer cab to see if there were sparks. Everything checked out. My dad removed the spark plug and put a metal thing inside to see if my valves were working and sure enough it wasn't moving. He took my front end of the engine apart cause he thought the belt was broken, it wasn't. He checked the crankshaft and here a tiny little metal pin like thing he calls a key was worn out and no longer moving the engine. He got another of this pin thingy and he replaced it along with a cement mixing compound. He put everything back together and I never had a problem. Overall, check to see if the engine is cranking properly, if not check the timing belt and if it is okay, check that pin thingy, it is located on the crankshaft pully thingy.. I know it was a long story, but I just thought I'd let you know what I went through. If you would like to contact me, you may email me at rdjanvier@sasktel.net
Where is the rev counter sensor or pickup found on a pug 306 d turbo 1998?
There is a TDC sensor on the front of the gearbox bell housing of most 306 Diesel models (up to MY '99 I believe) Neil
There can be several answers to this question depending on specs, upgrades, etc.
Talking stock, and assuming that compared to any other TPI engine that this is indeed a problem the most likely cause is a vacuum leak.
If the vehicle has a big cam, (not stock) that's just how some cams idle is a real lopey idle.
It could also be detonation. The corvette is equipped with a knock sensor, so if there is any sort of tapping in the engine, whether this be from a problem, a deserved tuneup, or even if you tapped the engine with a wrench, the knock sensor will try to compensate by changing the timing of the vehicle slightly. This with change the vehicle idle up and down.
An engine with a knocking noise is almost always a serious condition but not always. When you say knock, if you are referring to what some would call a ping, then that is not so serious and can be caused by simply using the wrong octane fuel. If your engine requires premium fuel then use only premium fuel. If it requires regular then don't waste your money on premium as it will provide no benefit. The condition is more commonly called pre-detonation. It can also be caused by carbon deposit buildup inside the cylinders. Using the wrong spark plugs can cause carbon buildup and pinging or knocking. Dirty fuel injectors, a bad knock sensor and an engine running too hot will also cause a knock. But the most serious reason for a knock is worn crankshaft or piston bearings. The only fix for this is an engine overhaul. Have your engine diagnosed by a professional to see what is causing the knock. You may only need to have the carbon deposits removed to solve the problem.
Will a 1970 lh headlight bezel fit a 1973 car?
I would imagine if the fenders, hood are interchangable the 70 bezels and grill could fit. I'm curious why you would want to use 70 bezels instead of the 73? The 70 are very expensive and hard to find ( I've been looking for a pair myself) 1970 headlight bezels won't work if you are still going to use the 72-74 grill. If you replace the whole grill assembly, any year will fit, wiht the proper bracketry. 1970 bezels are being reproduced now, but grills aren't, and they are considerably more expensive than 72-74.
Does your odometer have to be working in order to pass a smog test only?
No, the odometer is not part of an emissions test.
Will a civic headlight fit on a civic si?
Depending on what year you are talking about it can be interchangeable. For instance if you have a 2001 to 2005 Civic and these are either 2 door or 4 door and want to make it work for a Civic Si in that year range then no because it is a different body style in this case a hatchback. But if you have a 2006 and up civic and want to put civic si headlights or vice versa it will work fine as long as it is specific for two door model or four door model.

Will a 1998 civic motor fit a 1993 Honda civic?
Yes and No. The motor itself will fit as long as it is the same series of motor. Any D series motor is interchangeable. The Problem you will run into with a 98-93 swap is the computer system interchange. A 93 civic is running Obd1 and a 98 civic is Obd2. If u are changing the type of motor from say D series to B series i would refer to a forum that has a walk through to swap, or at least a list of parts you will need to buy for the swap. a good resource is honda-tech.com
the motor itself is interchangeable, and most of the sensors... if you have old motor swap everything over so it will just bolt right in..

What is the correct amount of oil to put in a 97 Honda Civic 160i?
Your owners manual list the oil capacity. But in case you do not have one.
The U.S. Civic LX, & DX capacity is 3.5 quarts with oil/filter change. Install new crush washer and tighten drain plug to 33 lb/ft torque.
The U.S. Civic EX capacity is 3.8 quarts with oil/filter change. Install new crush washer and tighten drain plug to 29 lb/ft of torque.
Installing a new crush washer during each oil change is important to prevent over-tightening and damaging threads on oil pan.
