I have a 21yr old niece and she is mildly retarded. When she was in grade school the teachers just thought that she was a slow learner and that eventually that little light will go on and she'd be one her way and because the don't fail kids anymore ( in Canada anyway ) because of peer pressure when they get into high school they just push them through and it don't matter if they can read or write so my sister really noticed her immaturity when she a preteen. Her body developed the way other girls her age if not more but her behavior was still very child like, still playing with dolls at the age of 13/14 where as her peers were into boys , going to school dances really into trying to be cool and she just didn't want anything to do with none of that.
