How do you forward postal mail to someone no longer living at your address?

There are two simple methods. Stop by your local Post Office and pick up the Official Change of Address form. It is also sometimes called the Mover's Guide. Inside is advertising for new residents, and the official form. Note: If you are filling this out for someone else, you have to sign it agreeing that you are the agent for that person (basically that it is OK with them for you to fill out the form.). If they fill out the form at their new Post Office, it is better, but you can do it after reading the fine print about the legal ramifications of putting in a Change of Address just to mess with someone. Fill out the name of the person, the old address, the new address (if you know it, otherwise put Moved Left No Forwarding), and then sign and date it. The Change of Address card has prepaid postage. Simply put the City, State and ZIP Code on the address side OF THE CITY THEY MOVED FROM. A little while after the card gets processed, the USPS sends out a confirmation letter to both old and new addresses to make sure there is no mistake. Usually the carrier knows this is forwarded mail, but if you get the letter, don't open it, just write on the front FORWARD. Their 1st class and 2nd class mail should start to get forwarded with little yellow stickers with the new address. One final note: Not all mail will get forwarded. There are catalogs that say "Or Current Resident", and those will continue to be delivered, unless you contact the mailer. You can also change the address online, if you are the person moving, because you need a valid credit card with the correct mailing address. For more information, go to www.usps.com, and click on Receiving Your Mail section, under Change of Address.

How much money should you save before moving out of state?

Answer - Moving moneyYou did not say which state you are moving from or going to. I would advise you to save as much money as possible. You will need money for the following: Transportation to your new state, meals, housing, utilities, incidentals, insurance & other miscellaneous & unexpected expenses.

For me, it was about $1500 in moving expenses, plus six months of rent (you can get an idea of how much using the internet apartment sites), rental and utility deposits (again online) and a few hundred for food a month. Purchase of clothing, apartment niceties and so on should wait until you land that job. Be sure to keep a running tally of your expenses and be dutiful about reviewing them as you go along to avoid surprises. A good buffer would be around 8 to 10 thousand dollars.

How much should you pay a friend to help you move?

It depends on how long and how much he/she is helping you. If he/she works really hard and spends a lot of time helping you move items, you should bring the price up to 50 dollars. If he/she helps you out for awhile and works pretty hard, then you should offer he/she 20 dollars.

Do the USPS send you anything after you register for a PO Box such as a registration confirmation via email or regular mail to your address?

The USPS will give you a receipt for your initial box rental, normally this is done in-person at the sight where your USPS Post Office box is physically located. There are some exceptions as to "Satellite PO Box Offices" (where the boxes are filled by a Postmaster/Letter Carrier/Clerk but it is an non-staffed site) in that case you would go to a main PO and rent your box and get the receipt. Since each PO Box is supported by an initial, verified, mailing address form most often you will be notified with a "hard-copy" form of the approval/disapproval.

The easiest way to confirm a reputable moving company is to check their online reviews. Sites like Epinions, Kudzu, and Yelp! are great places to find out what previous customers have to say about a moving company.

Moving Scam is also a popular forum for discussing and researching moving companies, and is known for letting the public know about scam companies.

You can also check with the Better Business Bureau, the Department of Transportation, or the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).

What is a reliable and reasonably-priced moving company for an interstate move of furniture and household goods?

This can be broken down into two sections.

Reliable interstate mover:

Here are some of the major requirements a moving company must meet in order to be considered as reliable:

  1. Appropriate licensing and insurance:
    1. They should have appropriate USDOT license and insurance on file (you can check it on the FMCSA site),
  2. Clear public record:
    1. They should be in business at least for three years,
    2. They should have clear record on the BBB (or 1-2 fully resolved complaints the most),
    3. They should have good reviews (or at least no reviews) on a moving scam website,
    4. They should have A, AA, or AAA Safety of Use Rating on a moving answers website.
  3. Adequate sales practices and operations
    1. They should offer you a visual estimate and actually do it,
    2. They should give you the "Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move" brochure,
    3. They should offer you a binding-guarranteed-flat-fixed price for your move based on the visual estimate,
    4. They should either be an agent of a major van lines, or own the interstate trucks your goods will be transported on, or at least provide you with all the details about the transportation company they use for that purpose (if they only do pick ups).

Reasonably priced interstate mover:

It depends on the market where the mover operates. If you are moving from a major city to another major city (e.g. NYC->L.A.) then you can expect lower price level due to high competition, and if you are moving from Montana to Arkansas then chances are you will have to settle for higher prices (usually, only big van lines have agents who can help you and trucks that travel on those routes).

The easiest way to compare prices would be to fill out a free moving quote request with detailed list of your items, and have movers call and email you with offers. This will give you an idea of how competitive your market is and what level of prices you should expect. NEVER let yourself be tempted by low prices, always request a visual estimate at your home and a binding quote. When forced to give binding quotes movers tend to back off and raise their price to the more or less honest level. No mover will give you a binding quote leaving himself with no profit or a loss.

You may want to visit a moving scams website once you've found a company to work with. There are lots of good, reliable reviews of all sorts of moving companies there. You may also want to look into using moving pods. The availability of such a company will depend on where you live, but they're often cheaper than hiring a moving company, plus you get the benefit of packing certain items yourself so you can keep an eye the fragile things.

How do you move from Michigan to Hawaii?

The best way to make any move (Michigan to Hawaii as an example) is to take your favorite valise off the shelf and fill it with one week of proper clothing. You then call in an auctioneer. After the sale of everything (except the valise) is complete you put the check in the valise, get on an airplane and go to your destination.

Best city to live in Maui?

It depends on what you're looking for. The main city is called Kahului. This is where the airport and most of the big general stores are (mall, Walmart, Costco, etc). Ka'anapali in western Maui is where all the big resorts and water sports are. It's probably not the best place to live on Maui since it's packed with tourists. Lahaina, just south of Ka'anapali, is the old capital with lots of art galleries and nice restaurants. Wailea is the most expensive area in the south part of the island with luxury homes and golf courses. Great place to live, but you'd have to have a lot of money. Kihei is right in between. It's a good central location with the feel of a California beach town. Pretty reasonable housing prices too. The other main area some people like to live is what they call "upland". This area is on the south and western side of the island near the bigger towns, but it's further from the ocean. Housing prices are better, and it's got more of a rural feeling. No matter where you live, it's pretty easy to get anywhere else. Only place you wouldn't want to live is on the east side of the island near Hana. It's beautiful and tropical, but very isolated from the rest of the island (3 hour drive).

Nicest place to live in Arkansas?

Rogers, Arkansas is very nice. Rogers has the Pinnacle Hills Promenade, lots of car dealerships, big churches, lots of nice restaurants and amazing hotels (for Arkansas at least!) You must be a family/person of good income to be able to live there though. Fayetteville which is about 20 minutes from Rogers is also very nice. It is a college town so there is always a lot to do.

Do any POD moving companies service Missoula Montana?

How much does it cost to move out for the first time?

It will vary depending upon many factors including where you live, what lifestyle you have, your source of transportation, and bills that you might have to pay. In addition to monthly expenses, most apartments ask for a security deposit to include a 1st and last months rent so this can more than triple the initial rent payment required. Some utilities also require deposit for persons without a credit history. An educational site in Texas has a great reality check site to help people get a better perspective on costs...here is the link http://www.cdr.state.tx.us/realitycheck/ and another from the jump$tart coalition http://www.jumpstart.org/realitycheck/pgv_money_rc_form.html Next I would look for a simple budget worksheet Kiplingers has a good one here http://www.kiplinger.com/tools/budget/ or find one of your own from the many resources out there. You can research apartments in your area to see how much they cost and maybe make some calls to local utilities to get as realistic a budget as you can. Hopefully that should get you started and on your way to your new adventure. Good Luck!
