To reset the trip odometer on a 2013 Chevy Silverado, press the trip/reset button located on the instrument panel. Ensure the vehicle is in the "Run" or "On" position for the reset to work.

The odometer on a 96 Ford Explorer is tied into the speedometer. If the speedometer is working then there is a gear problem inside of the speedometer causing the odometer to not work.

That probably indicates that the battery is not fully charged.

Just took my 1996 Camry to the Toyota dealership, my odometer was clicking off 1.6 miles for every road mile. I was informed that my speedometer was reading 70mph and actual was 67 mph (not bad). The fix is a $500 odometer cluster per the dealership. It is the 2nd one the dealership has a record of going bad. It is not a high failure part. Consider yourself one of the lucky folks that may end up withh a million mile Camry.

Check the fuse in the fuse box; Also check to see if your speedometer cable snapped, this will cause the odometer to stop working as well

If your speedometer is still working and just the odometer has stopped, the most likely problem is a little plastic drive gear in the instrument cluster. This is the most common problem with many makes of cars. If you are handy you can buy a replacement gear on Ebay for a few dollars and replace it yourself. Otherwise take the vehicle to an instrument repair shop. This problem usually occurs if you reset your odometer while travelling, it breaks a tooth off the little gear.

That is just a mark left by the manufacturing of the dash panel. It is not an indicator of anything on the Jeep.

Chances are that you've got:

- a fuse blown.....

- or the cars computers not getting enough current to keep the backup running

or more likely.. is you cars radio not the original one.. or has work been done on the radio... there is an extra wire that is used to keep a constant low current flow things like the radio and trip meter ... some radios may require more power than it can provide alone... or the radio had been miss wired... or your cars batter is really low (maybe dead cell)...

other than that get an auto shop or the dealer to scan the ECU for error codes.

Most of the time, the speedometer cable breaks, and you replace it. The best way to find out, is to unscrew it from the transmission, and see if you can pull the cable out from the casing. If it checks out to be good, then it will be the drive gear inside the transmission, or the speedometer itself.

There isn't a separate computer for just the odometer. Attached to the firewall behind the coolant bottle is the main computer. There are 3 cables that plug into the front of the computer and the odometer is in there. When you buy a new or refurbished computer for your jeep you need the vin number and the odometer reading so the computer can be programmed for your jeep. Meaning the odometer reading is in the main computer

The manual sez that the odometer lamp is a '73' but offers no help on how to replace it.

If the speedo il ok but the odometer doesn't work, take it to a speedo shop as the problem is in the speedo.

the problem is likely in the guage cluster itself because you are getting a good signal from the senser to make the speedo work

Unless you can find a rebuilder on the web then you can have the dealership send it off for repair. You could also look for one at a junk yard.

There isn't an odometer light on an Alero, the digital readout is a VFD (Vacuum Fluorescent Display) which is self illuminating. The reason your odometer is out is most likely a blown resistor/resistors or cold solder joints on a resistor. Do a web search for "odometer resistor" and you should find enough info to fix this yourself. Since yours is an Alero probably any gm (grand am, impala, malibu...)with a digital readout will have a similar fix. On your Alero, take the board off the back of the gauge cluster, there should be 3 resistors just to the left of the odometer display. They look like little brown rods about 1/4-3/8" long with silver ends. If any of them are burnt or missing that would be your problem. On my alero they are 180 ohm and probably 1 Watt or so. You can remove all three and replace them with one 60 ohm 5watt power resistor.
