What websites can you verify a VIN number for a 1977 Lincoln Mark V?
There are only two possible VIN breakdowns for a 1977 Lincoln Continental Mark V...
7Y89S******
7Y89A******
The VIN plate on the dash appears to start and end with a cursive 'F' but that only denotes Ford and is not part of the actual VIN. The '7' indicates the year and the 'S' indicates a 400 2bbl V8 engine and the 'A' indicates a 460 4bbl V8.
What is the spark plug gap for an 89 Yamaha virago 1110 CC?
As far as I know, there was no Virago 1110; I suppose you're referring to the Virago XV1100. I don't have it's factory manual, but the Clymer service manual covers it, and according to that the spark gap should be 0.7-0.8 mm, as with most of these bikes. Actually, the required plugs (NGK BP7ES or BPR7ES, depending on who do you trust - the difference is an incorporated series resistor in the "R" plug) seem to come factory-set to that gap, but it never hurts to check, I guess...
Locked keys in trunk on a 1964 Oldsmobile cutlass f85?
Why yes I have done that
Can you get the other set of keys?
Sometimes you can just have another key made from the code on the matching lock- in this case the glovebox or console lid. Any locksmith can do this readily if you are unable to master the mysteries of extracting the glovebox lock cylinder- there is a secret tang to depress which releases the lock cylinder. Or you can sometimes unscrew the bezel that holds it together.
Or, find the other set of keys.
Press the remote trunk unlock button in the glovebox if you have that feature.
Worst case, the back seat can be removed and the lock accessed from there.
What will cause a 94 Olds Cutlass to suddenly develop a problem shifting from first to 2nd gear?
something i discovered with my 1994 cutsup, it shifted roughly from 1st to second. i drove it for a month like that, until i changed the air filter. i removed the plastic box the air filter sits in to vacuum it out, and i saw that a hose (in charge of vacuum-shifting) was loose. the idiot before me had used a garden hose and some rubber bands. i replaced it with a brake cylendar hose off of a 1987 Pontiac lemans, and it cured the problem, no leaks, no low fluid.
hopfully it is just low transmission fluid or a cloged filter. I would check the fluid level (when eninge is warm)1st. if the level is fine, change the transmission fluid and filter if it has been over about 45K miles since it was last done.
What could be the reason for the power brakes to get hot and stop working on a Lincoln Mark VII?
Have you checked the brake pads and fluid lately?
There are several factors that may cause this:
When you have severe or constant braking, the rotors and pads heat up and if they don't cool down, they begin to lose their braking effectiveness. If the heat doesn't dissipate, the brake fluid in the brake caliper begins to get hot and that too will affect braking. If the brake fluid begins to boil, that is a serious problem.
Also the type of brake pads you have on your vehicle will affect braking. Ceramic pads take longer to stop a vehicle than the metallics.
You also could have a master brake cylinder going out where everytime you press the pedal some fluid may be bypassing the piston and making the pedal go lower.
Most of your braking is done by the front brakes. The pads may be so thin that once they get hot, they lose their braking power.
Have your system checked by a professional if you are not sure what you are doing. Yes I agree with all of that also on a Mark 7 there is a pressure switch on the master cylinder that frequently goes bad and causes a hard pedal but it wouldn't only happen when brakes get hot but it's something to consider.
Answer
Make sure you are using only Dot 3 fluid-The ABS system will not work properly with Dot 4
fluid. I have had several bad calipers and they hang up and generate a lot of heat. They will actually burn the rotor and possibly warp it. Also, do not let the car sit too long without using it. I did this and my caliper froze to the rotor.
Will the hood from a 1967 Oldsmobile Cutlass fit on a 1966 Cutlass?
They wouldn't match up in the front due to the 67's wider headlight design
It's common for leaking power steering fluid gets on the serpentine belt - causing slippage and ultimately belt breakage.
