First take off the horn pad , then you will see a snap ring on top of the nut remove it then you can use a socket to remove the nut , also there is a lead weight that will come off when you remove nut . You can get a steering wheel remover , but i just rocked the wheel back and forth while pulling and the wheel comes off , to get at the signal light switch you will have to remove a metal plate , you can do this by popping the snap ring off and that releases the plate Hope this helps

I know the head gasket on my 1992 sunbird has been replaced, don't know all the details because I didn't do it myself.. but i would try replacing it and see if you can't get more miles out of that engine! its a whole lot easier than replacing the whole thing because we did the cavalier version and it was a pain in the rear to switch out.. id suggest just replacing the gasket.
the same thing happened to me just before Christmas and i had the heads and cam looked at for knicks and warpage. Then just reconditioned/refurbished them, relatively cheap minus labor. replacing hoses and radiator gasket just below radiator cap and she's been good ever since.

I have a '93 Sunbird as well. I hit an animal with my car and the turn signal fell off. This created numerous problems with the wiring. I replaced the blinker and bulbs and then the left blinker signal stayed on when my lights were on. I replaced the flasher and still nothing. The guys at the auto parts store said it was a short in a wire but I have power, it just doesnt blink. Any suggestions?!
I used to own a 92 Pontiac sunbird, I bought it used with 90,000 miles on it so expected some issues. in the first 2 years I replaced the alternator 3 times, had constant problems with the lights, and radio sparadicaly going out. I then had a mechanic look at it and found that the battery's negative post was literaly hanging on by a thread. after replacing the battery I drove the car for another 3 years with out any major electrical problems.
Hello, I live in Mexico City, I own a Sunbird 90 convertible, i thisnk its a incredible car, but i have a electrical proble, the light on the dash board CHECK ENGINE is lighting, some time turn off and turn on while I�m driving, when the CHKENG lights the car feels a little weird, i repaired of the TPS sensor, Jack valve, fix the wires, scan the car with the computer, that it says nothing is bad, but the problem stills and I hate it, what can I do for that, it might be a short cut somewhere, but what? a light? convertible system?
Do you have any idea guys about it ?... please help me !!! I don't wnt to sell my car, I just want to fix it, besides bof that its a outstanding machine

It's inside the door. Remove snap ring behind window handle, remove handle. Door panel is held on mostly with pop in fasteners. Gently work your way around the edge of the inside door panel with a large flat bladed screwdriver or equivalent, popping out the fasteners as you go. Once this is off enough to see between the door panels, look for a yellow rod or cylinder, this is a push/pull relay that engages/disengages your door locks. If you want to disable the thing like I did, simply pull the wires off the relay.

Locate and press the tab or button where the wiper blade is inserted into the hook of the wiper arm and pull wiper blade out of hook. You may have to rotate and flex the blade to make enough clearance for the hook to pass through.

You will need to call up your local dealership with your V.I.N. and they can cut you a new key from their master. It's not cheap, approx. $30 to $100, I can't remember exactly, i know that's a wide range but it's in there somewhere. A cheaper way to go is to get an ignition w/key from the wreckers and just change the ignition out and voila you have a new key! Worst case scenario you can do like the delinquents and jam a flat-head in the ignition and use this as your new key. (not recommended)

I had the same problem. The cooling fan wasn't running, so the engine over-heated. The lever (bi-level, a/c, defrost, etc) needs to be on so the fan will engage. The fan is tied into that system. one of a few things it could be.. "sensors" if you pick up a book at a part store it will have values of all the different sensors in it .. by hooking up a simple ohm's meter u can check the values if there off more than .01 -.05 it's going to be a bad sensor u can use this on pretty much all gm and ford sensors if i had to guess i would say start with a coolant temp sensor it's the sensor just below the water inlet housing ....

This is really hard for me to explain, however I'll give it a try. First you need to remove the plastic cover on the passenger side of engine. Next you will need to set the bottom crank pulley on "0". Then make sure your cam is lined up with the mark on the timing plate behind the cam,(there is a small mark) put it on dead center. Next you will need to loosen the tensioner for the timing belt. Remove the belt and replace it with the new one. Then you are ready to begin putting your car back together. Hope this helps.
AnswerThe tensioner for the timing belt on these cars is the water pump.the first thing you should do is go to just about any auto parts store and spend 25 bucks on a haynes repair manual for your car, the after freading up on how hard its going to be then you will want to fallow the instructions carefully, and you will need to have a machanicail back ground or know someone who does that can help, because theres alot more invovled than juat taking off plastic covers, it's a very exstinsive job.
